Need assistance with C25K or any other programs I can run with

Hello, I would like suggestions:

1) I'd like to do the C25K but I would like to know if there are any other podcasts other than Mr. Ullrey's. I have his podcast and I used it for about 4 weeks, but the techno music, I'm afraid was not motivational for me.

2) I am not a runner but I liked to walk briskly, jog and sprint. Never an athlete, I do enjoy 35 minutes each morning of a combination of the three. I need some variety, though and I've grown tired of my regular routine. I can't seem to stay on track without music or some kind of structured program I can hear as I perform that I can follow. Does any one have any suggestions? I'm almost 48 next month. Not seeking to run a marathon, rather, I'd just like to continue a good walking/running/jogging program that I won't become disinterested in and will maximize my weight loss and health objectives.

Jillian

Thanks.

No, the only person who's been generous enough to provide a C-to-5k soundtrack is Robert Ullrey.

Why not download some audio editing software, like Audacity, and make your own with music you know you like?

Or get yourself a running watch with a countdown timer which you can program the intervals into - there's a number of suitable ones in the Time Ironman range.

And people have been known to do C-to-5k with kitchen timers.

I wasn't crazy about his music choices either, but I loved the idea.

In iTunes, you can give specific beginning and end times for all the songs.

What I did was tell it not to include certain songs in my general mix, then clip those songs where I needed, and put them in a playlist that wouldn't shuffle. I can re-edit the songs to play in their entirety when I need to, but in the meantime, I have my very own exclusive exercise soundtrack.

Thanks...I don't have an Ipod....yet! Just using a simple player. I too was fascinated with Mr. Ullrey's recordings and he was good enough to upload in mp3 format for non-Ipoders like me!

I'd have to time and record the different sets within the podcasts and I'm not sure yet, how to do that but once I do, I'll be more than happy to share.

Thanks!

MingledYarn, I have a IPOD Nano, Im not very Ipod literate LOL, But I would love to make my own running program. Can you give me a step by step answer as to how you did that?
I really really do appriciate any input you can give.
Thanks,

You don't need an iPod, just iTunes and a compatible player.

Decide which songs you'll want to adapt (the way I selected mine was tempo/energy - I put "walk" or "run" in the comments section so that I can then sort all my songs by comments and find them quickly. I wanted up-tempo peppy songs to walk to, and really high energy, driven songs for running).

Click on the individual song, click on "File" then in that drag-down menu click "Get Info".

From there, you'll click "Options" (and once you've done that, that screen is the one that will show up from the "Get Info" tab, I think as long as iTunes is open, or it might be a reboot of the computer thing...)

In the Options screen (of "Get Info"/"File") you'll see a "start time" and "stop time" option. You can punch in any times you want.

It may be easiest to just start at the beginning of the song and go out sixty seconds (or whatever the time) but listen first - many songs start with a few seconds of nothing, or very slowly build up, or have different tempos in different sections (if you were to run to "Bohemian Rhapsody", for example, you wouldn't want the funky mystic-y section in the beginning, you'd want to start where it really starts to kick)

Once you're done with that time, you can un-adjust the times easily back to the entire runtime of the song.

(oh, and while we're on the subject, The Who's Baba O'Riley is the perfect time and a great energy for a warm-up walk as is, no editing required.. )
