Happy Hour! October...and I'm buying

This thread is for runners. Let's encourage each other and feel a little joy in running.

A little late to start October? So here is the big news: MRI results confirm I do NOT have a stress fracture. Their calling it a pulled muscle, but seems OK now. I'm back running, after a 5 week break..like starting over.

This thread needs new attendies. We need food, if we had free food people would come.

I make the best guacamole in the world. I will bring it.

Awesome to hear that you're back up and running. I know you were climbing the walls there for a while.

Bugs ? Great new that it was not a stress fracture. Glad you are back running. I will echo inertia, I know you were climbing the walls during the 5 weeks off. So what is the next marathon you are going to run?

I am now one month after my hernia repair operation. The doctor released me to start running again a week after the surgery and I am now up to 6 miles on my long run as of yesterday. Two races, both corporate shield races, during the last three and a half weeks with terrible results. Of course the first one the only goal was to actually finish without ripping anything open.

DS2 is running the corporate shield races and we finally got DS1 to run the last one. DS1 finished about a minute and a half behind me. The old man is going to have to get moving, otherwise he is going to pass me real soon, since he wasn?t even trying that hard in this race, and he set a PR by about 45 seconds.

Well, got to go

HI Everyone! I understand that margarita's are excellent with guacamole - maybe WillMary can whip up a batch of her secret recipe!

Bugs - that is great news!! I bet you are so happy to be out running again. Take it easy though!!

Arrow - good to read that you are back out running too. Don't forget those kids are a little bit younger than you. It is great that they are both running though.

I've been working up the milage getting ready for my second 1/2 marathon on October 28. My neighbor is doing it with me - she just started running this year. Yesterday we ran together for the 1st time - 14 miles! I did 14 last weekend for the first time, but it was very warm and humid, so it took me a lot longer. Yesterday it was cool, drizzly and we got rained on for a short time. Finished in 2:34 for 11 m/m pace. The top of my right foot is sore - but I think I may have had my shoe laced too tight?

I'm fighting a sore tooth again. Not sure if I want to call the dentist or not. Afraid he'll do a root canal and screw up my training.

Free food. But I'm trying to lose the 2 pounds I found recently so can I have some of those fruit popsicles like they had after the race I did last month? I won't lose anything if I start drinking margueritas. I'll just have to be the bartender.

Hopeful -- good luck on your half. I hope you get a nice cool day this time.

I'm finally running pretty good again, even doing intervals. My last 5k was quite a bit off from last spring's PR so I have some work to do. The last weekend in October I can do either a one mile race or a 5k or both. I'm leaning toward the 5k since this is the first course I ever went under 26 minutes on. I need to make a decision soon.

So no popsicle for me?

And good for your on the swimming lessons! I'll bet that's a big improvement over the aqua-jogging.

No run last night but I'm hoping for a nice run this evening. Temps have started to come down and it's been beautiful outside.

Edited b/c my original post was too whiney.

I never posted about my 1/2 in September?? Sorry about that! I found my race report and will add it to the bottom of this.

I made an appointment for a root canal - but they cannot do it until next Thursday and my race is the following Sunday. So, if they do not have a cancellation sooner, I will reschedule until after the race. I just don't want some complication to screw everything up at this point. I'm not in great pain - it is just annoying at this point.

WillMary - I cannot loose weight at all! It is frustrating because I used to always be able to drop 5 or 6 pounds without much work. So, I feel your pain - you'd think 2 pounds would not be a big deal!

Bugs - Staying injury free is a great goal for you right now!

Okay here's the report:

My overly confident goal for this, my 2nd, ½ Marathon was a 2:15. If I ended at 2:20, I could live with it, but just finishing was an accomplishment in itself.

When I got to the Brewery I found my neighbor Ashley, who just started running this year. She?s a young 20 something, slim, athletic and fast. She said she was aiming for 10-minute miles, so I figured I could hang with her for at least the 1st half. When we got to the starting line, I went to turn on my Ipod and it froze on me. Oh, oh . . . this is not a good sign. So I had to wear the blasted thing, with nothing but silence to listen to.

1st mile ? 9:13 ? another oh, oh . . . this is too fast for me.
2nd mile ? 9:41 after tackling the biggest hill ? still too fast

The weather is warming up fast and I can already feel that this is not going to be my day. My Doctor passed me in the first mile and gave me a wave of recognition. By the 3rd mile I?m already taking little walk breaks ? something I hardly ever do ? except when the temps are too warm for me. Miles 3 through 6 I?m keeping it around 10:30 pace and finished 6 just at 1:01:50. I?m thinking if I can keep this up I can maybe make my goal.

About mile 8 my neck starts aching and my back is hurting a bit too ? I start walking more. Skip ahead to mile 13 ? finish time of 2:21:45 ? not bad considering all the strolling I was doing. MrHopeful was at the finish line to cheer me on along with my daughter, neighbor and my Doctor!! He hung around just to see me finish! I thought that was really nice of him. All the ½ finishers got a pilsner glass with the logo and ?finisher? etched into it.

I finished 6th in my age group. My neighbor got 2nd in her age group ? and was so tickled to have won something. I?ll definitely do this again next year - I just wish they?d start it earlier than 10 a.m.

My neighbor and I breaking in out pilsner glasses.

Thanks for reading!!

Cheers!

I went to my mom's last night to give her some left over Pot Roast and then ran the paths by her house. Well "Ran" is a term I use loosely here. Evenings are so much work for me - so it was 4 very slow laboring miles.

This morning I was suppose to meet my neighbor at 5:10 for a run. Had my DH dig out my old headlamp for her to use and then waited. . . and waited . . .finally took off on my own. Well, not totally on my own as I still had my faithful Brinkley with me. A much sproinkier 5 miles at 9:38 pace under clear star studded skies and 52 degree temps.

Happy Hump Day!
