A thread for people who are starting OHR this week!

Hello y'all!
I am starting this thread for all of us who are about to begin the OHR program this week (me included ).
I hope this will become a place for us to share our progress, our successes along the way and also occasional furstrations (No pain no gain, right? )

Just to make sure we are all doing the same program here is the link to the program: http://www.coolrunning.com/major/97/training/swit0214.htm#run[/URL" target="_blank">
Good Luck to all of us!
Who wants to post first?

I've got a question. I just finished C25K yesterday so that means I've been running 30 minutes for a week's worth of sessions already. So, should I jump in at week 2, or just plan on running three more weeks at 30 minutes? What do ya'll think?

I'm in a similiar situation...I feel like I've been doing weeks 1-3 for a while....I'm wondering if I'm really ready to progress to week 4 minutes?

Yesterday I ran the 30 minutes non stop, and KNEW I had MORE IN ME....but I stopped, thinking I really want to build to the longer runs, and I really want to follow the program...but I definitely had more in me....so I'm thinking I'm gonna proceed with week 4. Does that make sense?

Either way....I'm excited to report back here...and see how we are all doing. (I'm also thinking of sticking with my "every other day" running schedule, so I will have to figure out how I'm going to adjust a 3x/week program into an every other day program. )

Hi folks!

I finished C25K on Thursday and am ready to move to OHR, but I've been going through C25K with the Mile Loggers group and many of us decided to progress to OHR but some haven't graduated yet. I thought I'd do all three weeks (maybe even four) of 30 minute runs to let everyone catch up. I'm sure you'll be seeing more of our Mile Loggers group responding to this thread soon!

My advice to those of you contemplating jumping in at Week 3 or 4 after finishing C25K: Don't.

I'm on week 9 of OHR, having completed the whole program as written so far immediately after C25K. I forced myself to do those first few weeks of 30-min. runs and really feel like it gave me a much more solid base to build on when I did start to increase my time. To each their own, of course, but there's really no rush.

Thanks for that advice, theredpen (love your name, too!). I should complete C25K this week, but still struggle some on the longer runs, so perhaps going back to intervals again will help me build more stamina.

I finished C25k and didn't decide on a new program immediately. I ended up running 30,33,33 that week, so the next week when I decided to start OHR, I jumped in at W4 and have had no problems. However, I am running with a HRM and following a LHR training plan, so I'm taking it much easier than a lot of folks who run by feel, which could make a big difference in whether or not you need those 3 initial weeks. (See Basebuilding thread in Basic Training forum for more LHR info.)

I'm now in W9, and I've really been enjoying the OHR program. Good luck to you all.

Hello everyone.

I finished C25K a week ago.
I took a week off and plan on starting the OHR program tonight.

I am planning on starting at Week 1 and doing the three weeks of 30 minute runs.

Hey guys,

I completed OHR a few weeks back and thought i'd jump in with my thoughts on where to start on the program.

I started straight after C25K and went in at week 1. The first 3 weeks are really good for stamina building and setting a base from which to move on from so I wouldn't miss them out unless you found W9 C25K 'easy'. You can always add a bit if you find the run good one particular day or even switch the minutes to miles instead (30 mins / 3 miles) if you have been running for distance before. 3 weeks goes really quick and soon the time starts ramping up so I would enjoy the first few weeks rather than try to push things ramping straight into week 4.

Anyway - enjoy the program... it's great fun and nice to meet some new people taking it on.

Well, I completed my first day of OHR today. It's not even dawn yet. I appreciate hearing what everyone thinks about skipping a week at the top of the program and I think I'll just play it by ear. The 30 minute runs have been no big deal for me, but I suppose I shouldn't let my anxiousness to do well on my first 5K next month push me into rushing. We'll just see how it goes.

Happy running!

Hi everybody!
I am on week 1 of the OHR plan and am planning to run 1-3 and not skip to week 4.
My reason: I am just getting back to running after about half a year of not doing so and don't tell anybody, but the 5k (30min) runs are not a walk in the park for me yet.
But the key word here is YET... (At least I hope so )
So this is what I feel is right for me, but I think the decision to run weeks 1-3 or not is very individual. Just do what feels right for you!
