OMG Jeep that is awesome. Have you ran it before? We are totally flat here and I have never ran a bridge, Hence the reason I am nervous. That pic looks beautiful.

Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers, Week of October 14th
Hey gang, just a quick check in. 3 miles each day this week. Running short and easy to start my HM training. Today was a mid-day run, because the local minor leauge hockey season opens tonight. Yes, we have hockey in West Texas!

However, we do not have bridges!

Joe- maybe we should strive for about 20 participants in next years WWHM. I?m in, anyone else?

Hope everyone has great races, runs, and rests this weekend.

Go Rockies,
Stan

Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers, Week of October 14th
Hi everyone, barely got the post done last night before we lost power. We got alot of wind and hail but luckily thats all. We did have a tornado touch down about 10 miles from us. I don't think there were any injuries.

I didn't do anything again today, but I am feeling better, my legs are not so heavy.

wbertha--I know where you are coming from, I would love to have someone to run with at my pace. I had that for the last couple of months of my 1/2 training but now the group is done and my partner and I live about 45 miles apart, work different hours. etc.
Its sad but when I see a lady running around town or down the road I am so tempted to chase them down and ask them if they want a running partner. Oh my god, I need help. LOL

It seems like when I do find someone to run with, they are not as committed as I am and are at a totally different pace.

Oh well, thats enough gripping. Hope everyone is doing ok, are all this weekends racers ready. I can't wait to read the RR.

Sheila

Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers, Week of October 14th
Good morning everyone!

Well, I did 5.2 miles today in preparation for the 5 mile race next Sunday...I just had to see what I could do and what my time might be so I was determined to finish...some knee discomfort at the 2 mile mark and then in the other knee at the 4 mile mark but I adjusted my stride and worked through it...I am pretty convinced that it is ITBS so I have been stretching and icing and will look into the strap that is recommended...and take it from there. My goal is to finish in under 60 minutes which I think is very doable.

I will have one more run tomorrow before DH leaves for the week so I'll continue to ice and rest and stretch this next week and hopefully be in good shape on Sunday...

It was a beautiful morning for a run...62F and sunny... I love FALL running!

Have a great day all!

Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers, Week of October 14th
Good morning halfers! Sounds like most everyone is enjoying the cooler fall temps, except for those experiencing tornadoes. Jeep runs a 1/2 tomorrow, right? I'm still gimping, but doing better. Went to the Susan G. Komen 5K in Dallas this morning to cheer hubby on, but no running for me just yet. Anyway, I wrote a race report for him (see below):

Susan G. Komen 5K -- Dallas, TX -- 10/20/07 -- Hubby race report!

The day started at 4:15 am, as we were due in Dallas for a group picture at 6:20. After feeding dogs (and waking them up for a change), and feeding ourselves, we were off to Dallas. Turns out the picture really wasn't until 6:40. After the pic,.we were off to hunt for the timing chips and snagged some free coffee on the way. Hubby made his way to where he was suppsed to start and stretched a bit. We talked with a young woman who was doing her first race after only having run for 2 weeks! The weather was beautiful, cool and sunny by the start without much wind.

I left hubby to go and take some pictures of the start, and watch the elites head out. One of them I recognized as "fast guy" from our training group. Don't know his name, so he's just "fast guy" to me. Hubby used a 5 min run / 1 min walk method, and had a very good race. I watched him start, and then didn't see him again until about 1/10th mile from the finish. He was looking strong and feeling good at that point. His running sections were in the 11:00 to 11:45 range, and he said he walked a little more than planned on an uphill stretch towards the end, but overall stuck with the plan. Garmin time says 36:56, and his best time prior to that was 38:06. Big PR, and great day! I'm really proud of him.

I think there were around 30,000 people on hand, and lots of breast cancer survivors as well as those honoring loved ones who passed on. I got teary eyed at the start just watching, listening to the music, and thinking about all who were represented there.

OK, I give up, what is LSD? I'm a child of the 60's but I'm sure this has some other meaning here.

Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers, Week of October 14th
carol40..............I was at the Susan G Komen in Dallas this morning also. I have lurked here for a while, I am currently training for a HM. We ran/walked with Hebron High School cheer squad team name Big Blue Goes Pink, there were 77 of us. I finished the 5K in 27:52. It was a perfect morning for a race. I was amazed at the number of people there. I see you on the calendar for the White Rock HM, I am running it also, it will be my second HM, first one was 4/1 the Big D HM at fair park. Tell you hubby nice run this morning!!!

Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers, Week of October 14th
Hey Karla -- cool that you were there at the Komen!!! That's a big team you had for the race. Hubby was with one of the teams from American Airlines and they had a large group there as well. Nice time you had in your race today! I'm nursing a wonky hip, but still hoping to make the White Rock Half in December. Trained all summer in the TX heat, and I want a half!! If I could get a little speedier, I might be able to run with you. My 5K PR is 28:29 (very hot race in August). Did you do the Tour de Fleurs 10K?

Oh, and I figured out who "fast guy" is. Turns out he won the Senior division today, and outright WON the White Rock Marathon and the Cowtown Marathon back in the 80's. So I can at least say I have had a brush with greatness at the training group water stops on occasion.

Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers, Week of October 14th
Thank you all for your support along the way! Tomorrow is race day, I am injured but I am going to line up and do what I can. I at least want to cross the bridge, even if I have to walk all the way there.

Best case scenario, I go out and run without pain and finish less than 3 hours (my original goal)

Most likely case I'll walk as far as I can and catch the "sag wagon" driving the rest of the route.

But heck, I'm gonna enjoy as much as I possibly can and try not to increase the pain in my ankle.

Best wishes to all and I will report in tomorrow! Happy running!

Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers, Week of October 14th
Good Luck, Jeep. Great bridge picture.

Did my LSD today. Plan said 6 miles and I thought that if I felt decent at the turn around, that I might try for 7. Did the run on an out and back paved bike path. Got to the 3 mile mark just fine and then realized that I needed a bathroom. Two choices...extend the run one mile where their are facilities or try to make it back to start. Well, knew that I was not able to go all the way back to the start (3 miles) so I extended my run by going an additional mile out.

Run ended up being 8 miles and just 15 seconds per mile slower than my last half marathon. Pace felt tough but doable. The distance was rough, not what I had planned.

Good luck to all racers this weekend.

Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers, Week of October 14th
Well just a 3.5 miler on the track for me today...I mentioned this before, but think I'll go to that "stoopid question" post to ask how can I slow my pace...'cause to a lot of people I know that sounds like a stupid question, but something I defintely have a problem with....my easy, short run came out at an 8:09 pace! Anyway....

Carol40 - congrats to you DH on his 5K PR

SMiddleton -- well, you & I make 2 for the WWHM next year - count me in

CTMama -- good luck on your 5 miler tomorrow -- looking forward to RR

To the Bridge Runners, Peg & Jeep725 --- crossing four bridges in my HM, hence it's name, Lake Natomas 4Bridges --- Will try to post a photo of the biggest bridge, but I don't think it will compare to either of yours -- Good luck to both of you.

Joe -- yay, cool weather, huh?

Good running to everyone!
