Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers, Week of October 14th
Good morning halfers! Sounds like most everyone is enjoying the cooler fall temps, except for those experiencing tornadoes. Jeep runs a 1/2 tomorrow, right? I'm still gimping, but doing better. Went to the Susan G. Komen 5K in Dallas this morning to cheer hubby on, but no running for me just yet. Anyway, I wrote a race report for him (see below):
Susan G. Komen 5K -- Dallas, TX -- 10/20/07 -- Hubby race report!
The day started at 4:15 am, as we were due in Dallas for a group picture at 6:20. After feeding dogs (and waking them up for a change), and feeding ourselves, we were off to Dallas. Turns out the picture really wasn't until 6:40. After the pic,.we were off to hunt for the timing chips and snagged some free coffee on the way. Hubby made his way to where he was suppsed to start and stretched a bit. We talked with a young woman who was doing her first race after only having run for 2 weeks! The weather was beautiful, cool and sunny by the start without much wind.
I left hubby to go and take some pictures of the start, and watch the elites head out. One of them I recognized as "fast guy" from our training group. Don't know his name, so he's just "fast guy" to me. Hubby used a 5 min run / 1 min walk method, and had a very good race. I watched him start, and then didn't see him again until about 1/10th mile from the finish. He was looking strong and feeling good at that point. His running sections were in the 11:00 to 11:45 range, and he said he walked a little more than planned on an uphill stretch towards the end, but overall stuck with the plan. Garmin time says 36:56, and his best time prior to that was 38:06. Big PR, and great day! I'm really proud of him.
I think there were around 30,000 people on hand, and lots of breast cancer survivors as well as those honoring loved ones who passed on. I got teary eyed at the start just watching, listening to the music, and thinking about all who were represented there.
