*** The Mile Loggers *** Week of October 15

Happy Monday!
This group of mile loggers started the C25K program somewhere in the past few months, and we are staggered anywhere throughout the program. Some are in the last two weeks, and some are brandy ol new. :-)
Please feel free to jump in, be kept accountable and add to the motivational atmosphere. If you don't know how to start, begin by just posting about your run for that day!

Join us!

My personal update;

I am back to running tomorrow after doctor's orders - thank goodness! I can't believe how much I miss it after not running a few days! I was good and waited because I don't want to deal with any repercussions of not listening to him, but I can't wait to get back on the treadmill - I'm going to just go for W7D2 (where I should be anyway) - it shouldn't be too bad right - only 5 days missed.. I can force myself to do it right??

I really hate falling behind - so many of you guys are passing me. I guess all that's important is that I finish, but I'm still bummed about falling behind..

Dipmom - I'm glad to hear nothing physically wrong with your doggie.. you know what I was thinking - have you thought about renting a carpet shampooer thing from someplace? I know they have them at walmart/stop and shop(I'm not sure what the grocery stores are called around you, but a lot of times they have them) - I'm thinking that even if it doesn't get 100% clean, it will be a big start, and the $50 you spend might be worth it if it lowers the price from the other professional company.. hubby will like that idea right?? :-)

Dobie- So proud of you! Sorry about your music thing... but tell me honestly - was it horrible listening to yourself or did you find that it was easier to zone out and relax? I want to get to that point where we can just go off into our own little worlds and let our feet pound the pavement without thinking about it...

Mamahuss - Sorry you're still a little under the weather - but congrats on starting week 9! You're a mad woman! Are you going onto OHR?

jb944- glad to hear you're doing a little bit better - we'll get to graduation week around the same time so I'm counting on you to keep me motivated! :-) congrats...

Nugurl - how did your w7d2 go? is it getting easier??

LML - you're so close to your first race now - i'm waiting patiently to hear how it goes.. thank you for being our first graduate! you give me hope! :-)

BookLadies - where are you? are you still with us?

kim150 - you too - are you still with us??

I think we may have lost a few others - nomorebabies? Come on guys - come back! Stay with us! We'll do it together!

Hey,
I've been doing the C25K program for a little while now through a podcast and finally came over to coolrunning to check it out. Thought the accountability factor was great. I am finished with Wk2 and will be starting Wk3 on my next run/walk!

Katie - The only part I don't mind about not having music is being able to hear the birds and stuff. Listening to my feet hit the road threw me off and I feel it made me work harder to finish because I could not zone out. When I can not zone and run I strictly focus the whole time on my form and breathing. Makes me feel like I run all &$^&(^$(BLAAAHHHHH).
Hopefully your toe heals and you don't have any troubles finishing your last 2.5 weeks!
Hey crackrjack, tell me your a guy! I have been the only man in this forum and I need some help in here!

Katie, glad to hear you're back to running today. Hope the toe doesn't bother you!

dober, I read your post about running your route backwards, and thought--wow, he's that fast running backwards?! You're doing great!

DipMom, funny that you're staying out of the kitchen to avoid the dog's begging eyes! I need to try that--or feeding the beggars instead of myself!

mamahuss, you're really doing great! Graduation week!!!! jb, you're getting close too. Maybe we can push each other through the mental blocks.

crackrjack--welcome!

Yesterday was all-around not a great day, including poor eating, hydration, and getting to sleep about 2.5 hours after I first went to bed... so when the alarm went off this morning, I didn't even get up and take the dogs for a walk. Today's plan: lots of water, better food, and early to bed, then W9D2 in the morning. There, I've put it in writing.

Morning everyone. Katie Wk7D2 went really well. It wasnt hard for me. I notice the last mile I like to kick it up a little it felt so good. But I have been keeping my time with my songs from my IPOD I think im going to invest in a stop watch. I have a stop watch on my IPOD but it isnt working right.
Katie you should be fine with going right into W7D2, Remember most of this is a mind thing, keep in your mind that you can and then you will : ) Good luck girl.
Tonight is W7 D3. This Saturday is my first 5K. I am a little nervous about it. I just hope Im ready.

Dipmom Glad you got some good advice re: your pup, it will work out.

Hi All!

Welcome CrackJack - Tell us about yourself. I know Dober is hoping you are a guy but he doesn't know how lucky he is. Who else has a bunch of women to keep him in line!

I was supposed to run this morning but things got busy. I will try to get it in this evening. I am having a bit of shin pain, so if I miss today I am OK with it. Those 2 day breaks are great for me, I always feel so much stronger.

I have not been doing well on my "off days" so I have an appointment at Curves tomorrow. I have a 30 day trial with no committment so I thought I would give it a try. I need accountability! Has anyone tried Curves?

I am so EXCITED to hear about these upcoming 5K's. I want all the details.

Keep Running!

Greetings!

My name is Matt, and I'm a newb! <stands tall and proud>

This past weekend I finished up my scuba certification, and a few members of my class are ultrarunners. Talking with them sparked something in me that has been building up over the past few weeks.

I have been getting sick and tired of staying in my apartment, playing computer games, watching TV, being lazy, and getting stressed over silly things. Sleep, wake up, go to work, be lazy, eat, stress, repeat...

I want to change my life so very much. That's why I did the scuba class - I LOVE being outdoors, but again - just too lazy. Through this scuba class, I learned to scuba dive, met lots of great people, and went camping for the first time in my life (I'm 24).

This past weekend was easily one of the best of my entire life. It's great motivation to get out and be more active, and get away from the evil atmosphere of the apartment and daily life. Yes, I have bills to pay and chores to do, but it's been 24/7 with me for the past few months. I need to get out.

So back on track here...those ultrarunners were older gentlemen (50-60!) and were in EXCELLENT health, happy, great personalities, extremely friendly... Just hearing them talk about running, and anything else in general, made me want to start running. When I'm 50, I want to be like them. Happy, and in a position to look back on my past with a smile on my face.

Running is so much more than just physical health.

My physical health isn't too bad right now - 165 lbs, 24 years old, 5' 8", and just a year ago I was riding my bike 100+ mpw (which isn't great, but isn't bad either).

I have been gaining weight and eating awful foods, which I feel may be a contributing factor to my stress and unhappiness. (I have a lot to be happy about, though - good career, nice apartment, great fiancee)

So here I go! C25K starts today. I did want to start this morning before work, but I think W1D1 shouldn't be started in 39 degree weather at 4:30AM. I'll run the route I've picked this afternoon and become familiar with it, and start the morning routine on W1D2.

I will, of course, keep you updated!

Katie - welcome back to running. Now I have company, since I have been behind everyone else! We will get through this together!

crackrjack - welcome to our group. Keep us posted on how you are doing.

macd - it's a new day, so forget about yesterday. You can do this.

NuGurl - I wish I could say Week 7 wasn't hard . . .We all look forward to hearing your race report after this weekend.

DipMom - try doing the toe taps to get rid of the shin splints. They worked for me. I agree - the 2 days breaks are needed sometimes. I never tried Curves - I joined a local health club last October when it opened and hired a personal trainer to teach me what to do. I'm not currently meeting with him, but he gave me enough instruction, that I know what to do. I currently do strength training 3x/week for about 45 minutes each.

MattRun83 - welcome! Your activity level sounds like me a year ago - except that I was approaching 50! After a year of weekly workouts, I feel great! This summer we did a 245 mile bike ride in 5 days (something I could never have done a year ago!), and now I'm getting ready to start W8 tomorrow of C25K. If someone had told me a year ago that I would be running 25 minutes straight, I would have told them they were crazy. Now I get antsy on my days off from running and either walk, do water aerobics, or bike. If I can do it at age 50, you can do it! Keep us posted on your progress.

Dobie - You finally have company!

Matt, Welcome aboard. Remember when you first start running slow is a good thing to be. Don't worry to much about speed, I learned that the hard way. Just take your time and build yourself up.
Good luck!!

Katie, I hope your toe is better!!

I am back now. Does anyone remember that I was sick a few weeks ago - it just completely wiped me out from exercising for an entire week? I know some others of us were sick too. I had to miss an entire week of C25K.

Anyway, Sunday I got a headache, not horrible, just kind of annoying. I was also dizzy on Saturday and Sunday, but I was leaning over a lot (Sat, I was packing up books down low for 2+ hours and Sun I was doing insulation, yuck!).

So anyway, Monday was a holiday and I STILL had the headache, and it was worse. That's unusual for me, I don't usually get headaches much. I managed to go out Mon evening and did a little bit of speedwork with my family (they were riding bikes), I thought my laziness was making me feel bad. I felt okay while I was running, but when I stopped and walked, my head POUNDED. It was getting so bad that I could hardly even function. If I even slightly leaned over, sneezed or coughed, my head felt like it would explode. By Tuesday morning (DH and I's 8th wedding anniversary) I was feeling just awful, so called the Dr.

Turns out, I had a double ear infection in addition to a sinus infection! Who knew - my ears didn't hurt hardly at all. It's just my whole head hurt, which made my entire body feel bad.

So now, I'm starting on Week 8. I've basically missed a whole week. I did d1 today, but I started to feel funny - kind of dizzy and a little sickly, so I quit running @ 20 minutes.

<sigh> I was a bit depressed because I missed a week a few weeks ago when I was sick, now I've basically missed another. I'll see how I feel for d2. Oh well, I keep telling myself that I'll get there - 30 minutes is not far away at this point, so does it really matter that I had to stop at 20 minutes?!? No, of course not. At least that's what I'm telling myself!

I DON'T want to get discouraged and stop. That would be awful, I feel like this is starting over for me. I've got to keep it up.

I'm glad to be back! I'll let you all know how d2 goes for me, hopefully better.

Melissa
