my first 5K- I did it!!!!

I ran my first 5K on Saturday. I did the Race for the Cure in Birmingham, AL and it was fabulous! It was a fun event and a great run. I was able to run the entire distance- which was my only goal for my first race.

It was so exciting to be around other runners (I usually do all my runs on a treadmill while my daughter naps). I can see how races can be addictive. As a matter of fact, I've already registered for another 5K in December. I'm hoping to be ready for a 10K in early spring.

Many thanks to everyone who gave me advice for my first race last week!

WAY TO GO! I remember the first organized event I was ever involved in was the race for the cure, and I walked it with a bunch of my friends. I had never run before and can remember watching all the runners thinking "how in the H to they do that!" Then the bug hit me. Next, I joined the YMCA training team and ran in a 10k for cancer. It is exciting and addictive. I think I have decided that I have always got to be signed up for something to keep me motivated to run b/c after the 10k I had a nice little base and I ended up losing it b/c I got slack. Good for you for signing up for something else immediately!! You are setting a great example for your daughter.

Great job! Races can be very addicting. I started running in January and have run 15 of them so far this year.

Keep up the good work!
