C25K - Speedy Turkey Runners!!!

Hey, y'all!

Just wanted to see how everyone's doing! I just finished W3D3, and I'm wondering if I'll be able to make it through next week.

Guess we'll see, right?

Still plodding along,
Fawn

I just finished W3D3 also. I'm sort of excited about starting next week because from everything I've read, if you stick to something for at least 21 days it becomes a habit. Hopefully running is now a habit....we'll see! I'm sort of nervous about running for 5 minutes straight though. Good Luck!

I just started week 3 today. The 3-minute runs went better than expected, which is good news. Actually the hardest part for me was the first 90-second interval. After that, it felt pretty good.

I'll watch those of you starting week 4 with interest, becasue five minutes seems like a long time.

Good running this week!

W4D1 wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. The 5 min runs didn't seem that much longer than the 3 min runs. Hopefully, I wasn't just having a good day and the rest of the week will go well. How did everyone else fair?

Hi!

I finished W3D2 this morning. Good run/walk. Even used my mp3 player.

Keep up the good work!

I did w3d2 this morning, and it went pretty well. It feels pretty good to run 3 minutes at a time, but I'm always ready for the walking break when the time comes.

For those of you already on week 4, how is it going?

Five minutes IS a long time! At least as far as I'm concerned. I did W4D1 today, and I don't want to say it was hard, so much, but definitely a challenge.

On a side note, one of the main reasons I'm doing this is just to be healthy for my husband (who's just one of those naturally fit guys). So, the other day, after months and months of no cardio, he hops on the treadmill and runs two and a half miles. Straight. At a speed that's lightning compared to my running.

And then, when he's done, he complains about how slow he was having to go.

So, I've thought it over, and all I can think when I'm reminded of that moment is: MOTIVATION!

I'll leave that man in the dust one of these days!

I can identify with you. My husband decided to go on a run with me a few years ago without having jogged since high school. We completed 2 miles and he was ready to keep going and I was exhausted. Needless to say, I haven't been running since then, but he could still out run me today with no training. Makes me wonder if guys have some extraordinary lungs or training capacity that girls just lack.

PS to my previous post. I had been training to run that two miles for a few months before that

Just finished W4D2.
Is it just me, or do any of you experience ear pains near the end of the run? (It's most definitely the iPod I listen to while I run, but I don't put the volume too high.) Maybe it's because the veins swell when you run? I dunno.

Re: C25K - Speedy Turkey Runners!!!
I finished Wk5 Day2 last night. The 1st 8 minute run flew by! I did not want to stop to walk. The 2nd 8 minute run was a little harder, my hamstrings were starting to fight back, but I did not feel winded and could continue to holler at my kids to get to bed!!

I feel mentally ready for day 3, the 20 minute run. I excited and nervous for it.

I may try to repeat day 2 outside before I do day 3. I had to resort to the treadmill last night and I find that much easier.

I attempted w3d3 today, but had to quit because I got caught in a massive downpour! I tried to keep going, but the rain was in my eyes, my contacts got funky, and I just had to go home. I'll try again on Saturday, and will wear a hat and protect my ipod if rain is in the forecast.

Fawnsi - I'm glad you found the 5-minute runs doable. Hope I'm ready for the challenge.

My husband is naturally much fitter than I am. He does not work out or anything, but he's a natural at tennis and raquetball, and can run a mile like it's not a big deal. I hope I can leave him in my dust someday too. Running wise - that is.

Re: C25K - Speedy Turkey Runners!!!
I just finished W3D3 today, running outside (in drizzle) for the first time. After years of being a clothes hanger, my treadmill decided to stop and the repair person can't come for 4 weeks.

I had a really hard time with time (never mind distance). I'm not even near exact since I'm using my plain 'ole timex and my 40+year old eyes can't see the second hand while running. But it still felt good and after the 2nd 5 minute interval, I felt like I could keep going (at least another 50 feet!). But heaven knows, I wasn't fast. I saw several insects strolling faster than I was running!

Ok, I just realized, I accidently did W4D1 instead of W3D3. On the treadmill, I'd been doing distance not time and got messed up when I had to rely on my brain. Good to know I'll survive week 4!

I did w4d1 this morning. I did it! I am so excited about what I am accomplishing in the short amount of time I've been doing the program. I could barely finish w1d1, so I'm thrilled to have done so well. The 2nd 5 minutes got me, however I was listening to a great song and made it through.
