*** Mile Loggers *** Week of October 22nd

Happy Monday!
This group of mile loggers started the C25K program somewhere in the past few months, and we are staggered anywhere throughout the program. Some are in the last two weeks, and some are brandy ol new. :-)
Please feel free to jump in, be kept accountable and add to the motivational atmosphere. If you don't know how to start, begin by just posting about your run for that day!
Join us!

Reposted from other thread;

wow - i don't post for 2 days and i have to respond to so much! :-)
NuGirl - Congrats Grandma! :-) Very exciting - hope the family is doing well and happy! :-) You'll be back in no time...

LML - I'm sooo proud of you! You're the first in the group to do the 5k! I registered for my 5k - so i'll have a breakdown in a few weeks - it's not until November 10th...

Dobie - Your story scared the **** out of me! I'm glad you guys are okay - how's the rebuilding going?

MacD- Congratulations!!! :-) I'm psyched that we're finishing up now! I only have 6 more runs - and then I can finally call myself a graduate!

Mamahuss- how was the route backwards? Have you tried it again? Is it getting easier?

JB944- YAY week 9! Can you believe we're actually making it?

Matt - where did you go??

JennyDev - Ireland!? Wow - I'm jealous! How are the runs going for you so far?

Okay my update - We helped some friends move yesterday so I did not run - but I got a work-out anyway! I'd like to run tonight, but seeing that I'm a red sox fan - it'll have to be before Game 7 of the ALCS tonight! I'm outside now, but only running in the dark so that people can't see me!

I'm excited to start week 8 and soon enough week 9 - looking forward to finishing up - on that note - starting a new thread for next week! :-)

Dobie - glad you are OK. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and that whole community.

DipMom - Congrats on your finish - and on losing the weight! We will look forward to hearing about your first 5K.

lml - Great race! I think the first one is always the hardest, but you did it.

macd - nice weather here yesterday and today - we also got some yardwork done today, but stopped so we could get our 4 mile walk in., The walking is much more fun than the yardwork!

Katie - I do find it hard to believe that I start week 9 tomorrow. It hasn't always been easy, but I am amazed at how this program works! I may even do my final run in Boston - we fly in sometime Friday for the weekend.

And for those behind us, keep going. You can do it.

Ah, a fresh thread - thanks Katie!

jb good luck with that final run - do it in Boston, so when you finish and start jumping up and down in celebration at the end, no one around you will ever see you again! I'm disappointed that you won't be there for the Turkey Trot - it would have been fun to meet up with someone from the Loggers.

NuGirl, congrats on the new baby girl! I can't believe someone I think of as "New Girl" is a grandma! You go Girl! A friend of mine just became a grandma for the first time and she's decided to go with "Mimi" or "Grand Goddess" instead of Grandma - what do you plan on? Not that it always works out - sometimes the babies come up with something unexpected.

Anyway, I'm determined to hit the road again in the morning for another 30 minutes. Maybe I can even drag the DBF out early...

Have a great Monday everyone!

lml - we may have to find a run in the area sometime that we can do together. I am doing the turkey trot 5K route in about 41 minutes, so we are at about the same pace right now. I'm afraid if I do my victory dance in Boston, Katie may realize who I am!!! Actually, more importantly, a crazy victory dance would probably mortify my nephew - he's the reason we are going out there - he is in his last year at MIT.

That sounds great, jb! Don't know what's out there through the winter, but there's always next spring, too!

I've been trying to figure out how to post my photo of the finish here, but can't quite work it out. Here's a link:

Maybe that will work?

Just finished W3R2 - Was actually a breeze, but I noticed that I didn't cover near as much ground this week. In weeks one and two, I turned around at a specfic point and covered roughly 2.5 miles w/ warm-up and cool-down included. In week three, I am barely at mile 2, and the timer says I'm done. Any thoughts? I realize why, but it makes me feel like a failure. I apparently walk faster than I run.

crackrjack - if you are doing the program based on time, don't worry about how far you go. The important thing now is to go at a pace where you can still carry on a conversation. You are doing great!

As for me, I just got back from W9D1, and it was one of the easier runs that I have done. So, as Dobie would say, only 6 more miles to the finish line!

We need a "bump" Katie...so I'll post something!

My hip is killing me. I'm a little freaked about it - I think it's really what slowed me during the race on Saturday, and it just hasn't stopped hurting since. Well, that's not entirely true, it doesn't hurt much once I get moving, it just hurts when I initially stand up and for the first several steps I take. I haven't run since Saturday and I'm hoping to get moving again tomorrow morning. Any advice other than anti-inflammatories?

Does it feel like a muscle problem? Is it your hip flexor that hurts or does it feel more like a bone "popping" thing?

lml - I have found the 2 docs at Naperville Family Chiropractic to be very helpful with this kind of thing. They are right down the street from the police station - in the medical building next to Walgreens at Rickert & Ogden. They have helped me a lot over the past year as I have increased my activity level. They also have massage therapists on staff.

Katie - better to take an extra day, than irritate it too much and be out for longer. You'll get there soon enough!

Thanks for the advice everyone! I did finally get out again this morning for a couple of miles, but I took it really slow. I'm stretching every opportunity I get (hip flexor stretches aren't easy to slip into your every day routine like toe-taps!) and I'm thinking I'll call my doc's office later today and get an appointment. Fortunately it's not that bone-popping thing, Dipmom - it feels more muscular.

I'm sorry to hear you're out again, Katie! It's better to rest it than make things worse, though, right?

Thanks for the info on the chiro, jb. That location couldn't be more convenient!

Katie - I would be grumpy, too. It is no fun to have to change your plans when your body isn't cooperating. So, while I'm in Boston this weekend, if I see someone dressed in full body armor and a helmet, i'll say hi!

lml - if you decide to go, tell them you did the C25K program - they are familiar with it and have heard all my stories along the way. And they are thrilled when they have a patient that is actually trying to improve their health through exercise! My regular doc is a bit too quick to prescribe muscle relaxers or anti-inflammatories - and sometimes that only masks the problem. I would rather learn how to deal with the muscles and learn some prevention.

Katie - I almost forgot. Next time you need running shoes, tell the store about the toe problem. My latest pair has a wider toe box and is much more comfortable. My heel is very narrow, but they showed me how to tie the shoes (using those extra holes at the top) to tighten the heel. It works well.
