cotton panties

my new girlfriend insists on wearing cotton underwear under her running shorts. I keep telling her thats what the liner is for. Cotton is not good to run in. Whats the real story?

Re: cotton panties
I'm with you. My understanding is that cotton is wonderful for day-to-day wear, but not for running.

Re: cotton panties
You could always let her worry about her own underwear!

Re: cotton panties
I always wear cotton underwear under my running liner panties. I've never considered it to be a problem and would never have it any other way, even though it may not be scientifically correct!

Re: cotton panties
I do both depending on my mood and the running shorts I'm wearing. Both work fine, even for long runs (10-13m). But, really, I'm with DipMom on this one.

Re: cotton panties

lol peg

i wear only the liner. chafing has been an issue over 10 miles, some humid days, so i found some shorts that are tighter around the thigh, kinda like compression shorts. when i wear thights in the cold, i wear undies, but not cute sexy ones as they leave quite a mark! ususally ugly big ones or compression shorts. not cotton.

happy undies!

Re: cotton panties

Why does it not suprise me to find half of the half marathoners in a thread about underwear! ;)

Anyway - I do wear cotton underwear under my running trousers / shorts etc. I also wear them under cycling stuff too much to the amusment of DH. I just don't feel comfortable without. I only wear cotton because that's what I have and they are sensible (no thongs Joe - not even on a Wednesday!) - i've never had a problem with it to date and my longest run is 10 miles. I'm sure your girlfriend will soon change her mind wearing them if they start to rub in places!

Re: cotton panties

Well this thread got a new life huh?

Cara - Thongs?, I think that was Chuck on Thursday's if I'm not mistaken. Commando for me! As for cotton, I've always heard cotton anything is a no-no!

Re: cotton panties
To each her own! I'm only comfortable running in thongs/g-strings, regardless of what I'm wearing.. shorts, tights, spandex.. But they're never cotton!
