I got my shoes!!!!!!!!!!!!! So the guy did the analysis and said I over pronate. I roll my foot to the inside. He also said I've probably been wearing my shoes too tight. So I got NB 766 size 8 Wide. I know this may sound funny. But the shoes just look so nice and they feel good too. They normally would cost $90 but somehow I lucked into a sale so the grand total with taxes was $75.60. Not bad at all.

Maximoo&Bodacious--You two are in DC doing the MCM 10K right? I will be thinking of you. I live in Arlington but I will be Reston at a conference this entire weekend.

Cherbear--Have fun at Disney.

To anybody else having races this weekend I wish you the best.

LPH53--Thanks for the input I am really new to this so I appreciate it.

MelanieC--I really am excited!

Oh yeah so I have the Verizon Chocolate phone and it is a mp3 player too so I am working on downloading songs so I will be ready when I get on that treadmill. The first time I run will be on BL night so I won't play it then.

Hope everyone does really well and stays warm and dry during their races this weekend. I live in Michigan and the weather's miserable, so I hope y'all have better days.

On a side note, I ran my first two miles without stopping! I was so excited I called my sister and my friend as I was doing my cooldown. I wanted to keep going. That was the best part: knowing that I could've kept going.

Have a great weekend!!

I had my last training run yesterday before the 10K...and it was only 2 miles... but I was in such pain. My left big toe has been hurting this whole week. I unfortunately have bunions on both feet and they hurt my big toe from time to time. I was going to eventually have surgery on them but the running shoe store saleslady said that more than likely, they will come back since it's hereditary. And since they don't hurt on an everyday basis, I should be OK. They are not that extreme but after a run they hurt...since I overpronate, and tend to put pressure on the big toe. GO figure that they the one that usually doesn't hurt (my left foot) is killing me this week... i will definitely ICE it on Saturday evening before the race.

Good morning!

I tried doing W1D3 today, but after the 4th interval my calves were burning, not in a good way... <sigh> I think I'm going to go ahead and switch to W2D1 on Monday. I did 1/2 of a day on Sunday too, so it all balances out...

I stayed OP yesterday, used no flexies. Yeah me!

Again, good luck with all the runs this weekend! We'll be rooting for you!

Hi all
It is freaking pouring in DC! LOL I take my snow over this anyday!
Went for the 2 mile run today that I should have done yesterday, over the Key Bridge and into Georgetown, it was raining, we took it nice and slow it is cool to run in different cities.
Then we picked up our bibs and spent mucho $$$ at the expo. I just discovered I love running gadgets! Saw some running tights that support different muscles/areas. I did not buy them but I may go back tomorrow to drop the $$$ on them. Went to the Caps game tonight, I rooted for the Canucks tho so I got to see a win, then we went into Chinatown for food. All exciting stuff!
Maxie I hope your toe is better! Tomorrow we are checking out the race start area so will give you a heads up on a meeting place. What time are you planning onn arriving Sunday? I saw the signs that said get there 2 hours before the start and thought YIKES! It will be tough going that early.
My calves are so darn tight which is unusal for me, I am putting it down to too much sitting on the plane and stuff.
I think I need to search out the hotel hottub tomorrow!
well guys I have to go clear the days shopping from my bed so sleep can come, catch you tomorrow..

OK - so my half is one week away and I am soooo nervous! I did a run yesterday in 40 degree weather and tested out my new cold weather gear from UnderArmor and loved it. I got these new gloves and headband that are supposed to warm up as you perspire. They worked well and I needed the gloves for the whole 5. I am not sure what the weather will be like for next week and even what to wear - ok - I will stop overstressing. Tomorrow will be my last long run of 10 miles then I get to taper for the week. Have good runs and enjoy ALL your points!!

Happy - you probably won't see this but GOOD LUCK at the marathon! I've been thinking of you! Yes, I am doing one last long run this weekend and it will be on Sunday (because of the weather Sat). I did 5 on Friday and will total 19 for this week - my highest mileage to date.

NHMommy - yes, it is the Manchester, NH marathon - I will be running the half. This is my first half marathon as I have only been running since March and have yet to do anything longer than a 5 miler. I am nervously looking forward to it after I drove it last weekend - UGHHH - to many LARGE hills. Are you running this one??

BL - what the heck!!! That really was messed up stuff!!

Cherbear - good luck at Disney!

Dan - so sorry you are having so many family issues right now. That's a lot to deal with without adding in your heavy workload this past week! Going back to school is always scary but I would think worthwhile in the long run. I am 42 and just returned this Fall into a nursing program, tons of work with a job and three kids but am hoping it will pay off both financially and emotionally as this has ALWAYS been my dream.

Deb - I have the hardest time running on a treadmill - my time limit i.e. boredom limit is usually 30 minutes. Outside I have run for almost two hours straight - go figure. I think its just like that for some people. I need more stimulation than my room or gym has to offer so I LOVE to run outdoors. Congrats on making it through week 7!

Bo, AEK & Maximoo - good luck!! That would be very cool if you could get a pic together! Bo - nice job avoiding those muffins and such! I have the hardest time with "free" food - LOL. Not sure why but I just love a bargain and what is better than free? LOL How exciting it must be to travel to a race like you are! I am looking into full marathons next year and plan to do one that I can incorporate some travel into. Good luck girl!! Post as soon as you can!!

Hello to all the new peeps and anyone I missed!! Colleen

Boo Run 5k race report:
Last night I had two dreams about today's race. In the first dream I picked up my race packet but forgot to get my bib. When I went back to the registration table, everyone was gone but the pile of bibs were still there & I was contemplating just taking one. Then the second dream, I went into a store near the finish line and then realized that I never stopped my watch and then realized that I forgot to finish the race & run through the finish line chute and I still had my chip on my shoe (this race isn't even chip timed!). It was pretty strange. lol

so... I get up and it's raining. I decided that I would head to the race anyway. I am so glad that I did. The rain stopped by the time the race started. I ended up seeing two people that I knew and it was nice to have someone to talk to before the race. I started off really great and for the first time felt like I was in the right section of the pack - didn't have to dodge a lot of people and I paced myself with those around me. I did my first mile in 8:55! my fastest mile ever! I felt pretty good too, my calf only ached for a few minutes and then was fine. I continued to do good and did the next mile in 9:34 but then started to struggle in that last mile. I slowed my pace down for about half a mile and then kicked it up to the finish line and finished with my time approx. at 29:17 - not my best time (28:54 is PR) but I was very happy with my results. The best was a couple of friends yelling my name at the finish line. It took me a few minutes to recover, I was pretty winded and shaky afterwards but it felt good - I know that I really tried my hardest on that race and beat my time by almost a minute since last year on this same race course. so all in all, a good race

Shannon - how was your race today?

Bodacious - I'm so jealous, it sounds like you are having such a good time in DC!

Colleen - you are going to do great next week at your first HM!

off to chill out before taking DD-4yo to a bday party.

Good afternoon, gang...

Still aiming to head back to trial a week from this coming Monday...

sigh

7.2 miles this morning, and it felt good. 1:08 to finish. When I finished, I got home, changed, and went with my wife to a local 5K fitness walk. My dogs are barkin', to be sure...LOL

I really need to think this law school thing through. My wife is being supportive of it and, it is something I have always wanted to do and would be good for us, long term, obviously.

More later on.

Stay groovy, y'all!
Dan

I had been so nervous becuase the last run I did this week on Thursday was a bad one a side ache up under my ribs that pretty much stopped me in my tracks, I have never had a side ache... But I figured if I had to have a bad run it was better to do it then instead of the 5k day. My friend picked me up about 8 we got there and picked up our packets hit the porta potties and then took a little warm up walk. Our DH's were actually there for the start which was cool. We took off I was right on the start line and I thought oh ****! we were hauling #$% I back off a little when I could to not get ran over, (it was on a walking path so very narrow) I got seperated from my friends but with the looming side ache feeling already! I decided to run this at my pace and not kill myself so I let them go. I hit mile one at 9:30!! my PR ok I thought I cant do that again but I am ok hit 2 miles at 20 minutes again PR!! I was feeling really good I came around the corner and saw the time board and just kicked it I finished in 31:30 again a PR. My goal was in under 35!
One friend finished in 27! and the other 28! both PR's for them too, I was ok with that I was competing against myself and MAN was I happy with that. I see those times and think that is for those experienced runner people, so maybe now this means I AM ONE!!!
I have only ran one other 5k almost 2 years ago the same course and I finished in 39:45 minutes and it was really hard for me, I get so nervous about organized runs that after that I stayed away, but I am so glad I didnt stay away from the running, the best was the hug from DH at the end telling me how good I looked and how proud he was of me tear
I hope everyone else had a great run, I guess the 10k is Sunday, so good luck!!!!
Melanie awsome time!!! maybe I can actually do it in under 30 someday.

Hi All,

I ran w8d1 today and I was feeling so good, that I ran for 35 minutes straight! A new PR for me.! I was so excited! Unfortunately it was only 2.25 miles. So, I am finally getting the stamina to stick it out, then I will have to start working on speed. I figure I'll start to increase my speed, once I can actually run 3 miles straight first. Does that make sense, or should I start to increase my speed a little now? What do you guys think?

melaniec - Thanks for the idea about listening to stories! I downloaded some talking podcasts. Today I listened to a 35 minute 'Motivation to Move' Podcast, and it really kept me focused and I didn't get bored on the TM at all! In fact, I probably could have ran a little longer, but I was worried that I would overdo it, so I stopped at 35 minutes. Thanks!!

Good luck with all your races!! I can't wait til I can do one too!

Where did you find that podcast I am interested in listening to those but when I go to itunes there are so many. I am the type that wants to have recommendations from other people on one first.
I think your speed will increase just as you run more each week, even if you hit 3 miles and â??rest thereâ?? for a while it will increase. I noticed as my runs got longer the shorter ones got faster, hope that mad sense. And I love how you always say I felt like I could do more.

Dan do you and your wife have any children? I think it is really neat that you would go back to school for that, and even better with a supportive wife!

Bodacious: about all the running gadgets, today as we were waiting at the start line and my DH was on the side of the road he comes over and says â??do you know how much money is out here in running gear and gadgets we need to capitalize on this have a booth at these things or something!â?? I didnâ??t tell him that there are already running stores for that stuff but I get his point. I would go crazy in an expo too!

Maxiemoo I hope the toe holds up for your run and I am really late on this but I loved the picture of your daughter what a cutie.

Megs great job on the 2 miles I remember for me that was a huge deal, because I had always told myself all I want to be able to do is run 2 miles here and there, but then you get there and want to keep going. Oh I love the progresso soups, will be a good winter meal for me.
Likenoother great deal on the shoes! My friends are always deal finders I am just not as lucky. I need to go to a good running shoe store, its time for new ones.

I have missed personalizing for weeks now so this is my attempt to catch up hello to all the new ones and not new ones and any I have missed I have enjoyed reading all your posts, you all inspire me!

Hi...This all is a very new experience for me...running, reading message boards, posting on message boards, etc.

I just completed W1D3 of the C25K program and I used the podcast that goes along with that program by Robert Urelly's. I found them to be very helpful as it took the stress of having to look at a stop watch off of me and I just had to focus on running.

I've been reading this message board for the past week and finally decided to register as a user today because it seems like such a supportive group and I think with taking on the task of something new and challenging like running I can use all the support I can get

I particulary liked this thread as I am a pretty new member to weight watchers as well. I just completed my fifth week and have lost a total of 14 pounds. I still have A LOT to go though.

Part of me thinks that I'm too heavy to start a running plan now and I should wait until I've lost more weight but the other part of me (the part I'm listening too) says go for it. At this point I am planning on repeating week 1 as I'm still struggling some with that and I feel I will be more successful if I wait until I'm confident that I'm ready to move to week 2 rather than move to week 2 before I'm ready and then give up on the entire thing altogether. I live at 8000 feet elevation which I think is definitely a factor in making the running a little harder.

Any ideas out there as to whether or not I should go ahead with week 2 or is it okay to go ahead and repeat week 1?
