Hey Monnik! I'm supposed to be working too - I will be thinking about you on Monday morning - let me know how the 4:45 goes! I can feel your pain - I haven't managed to go to bed before 10pm on nights before my 4:15 wake up to meet my neighbor who lives about 1/3 mile away by 4:45! EEK! You can do it-at least we GAIN an hour through daylight savings time this weekend, right?!?

Cara, see some of us ARE up before the crack of dawn out here in the US...how are things in the UK? What is the time difference?

So, I ran 3 miles with my neighbor this a.m. Like I mentioned before, she's much faster and has more stamina than I do currently...so, today we ran together for the first 2 miles, then, since I was starting to slow down she asked if I minded that she run ahead-which she did& was totally fine with me! I just put on my music and slowed down my pace. Since I'm used to running by myself anyway, it did not matter to me at all!

I have a 6M long run on the schedule tomorrow too - quads are already sore! Guess that means that - perhaps - my "runners legs" (like Peg's in her pics from the HM relay last Sunday) might emerge one day soon - been waiting for those!

HAPPY WEEKEND!

Laurel, I'm waiting for those runners legs too! Wow - 4:15 is early! I shouldn't complain about 4:45. I do 3 out of 4 runs a week on my TM, so I don't have to go anywhere, so that makes it easier.

Won't that be great, Monnik? Let me know when the "runners legs fairy" visits your house - maybe Santa will bring me some for Christmas...

I just started doing the ultra early morning runs (alternating days) this week. I am super tired! Sounds like we'll be virtual running partners on Monday!

How do you like running on a TM? I tried doing that a few times & maybe the tread was too narrow - b/c I had trouble with stability - my foot strike was kind of weird. Does your TM have a wide tread? I don't know much about TMs, but would be nice to get feedback from you & the other runners - esp. since it's not always feasible to run outside.

Thanks in advance!

Laurel - I love my TM. I know it's not popular opinion, but here's why I love it. I put on my iPod and lose myself in a podcast or audiobook. I feel like I can run forever on my TM because I can pace myself slowly and it's cushy. I run outside when I run with my daughter (she's almost 14) and we really enjoy each other's company, but the outside runs are harder on me. I get winded easier, and I know it's because I go faster outside. I never noticed any problems with the tread being too narrow on my TM - it is time for me to get a new belt, though. I've certainly gotten my money's worth on that purchase!

Joe - I am a reading machine. I am always in the middle of two or three books. I listen to audiobooks on my commute into work, listen to another audiobook or a podcast while I run on the TM, and have one or two print books going too. I just got REALLY into the print one the other night. I'm running six tomorrow too. Funny how my six is a stretch and it's an 'easy' long run for you.

Hey Joe! Yes, I'm planning to run the Sugar Land Turkey Trot - depending upon what part of town you live in (sounds like if you're considering Katy, you must live NW?) you can run the 5 miler and get back home, showered and ready to cook in no time! Just put the turkey in the oven before you head out! Let me know if you sign up!

Joe - will you please email me your longer HM training schedule that you were referring to in your posting? I was planning to follow the coolrunning one and just repeat weeks until ready to move on - would be interested in another perspective, though!

Thanks, Monnik, for the feedback on the TM - maybe just the one I tried out was the problem...other thoughts runners?

Hi all
I would like to do a half marathon next summer. The training program on this website assumes a significantly stronger base in that the first week starts off with 21 miles of runs. I currently run about 10-12 miles per week, running three days, with the longest run about 6 miles. As I am 57 now, I think jumping in to run 4 days, 3 four mile runs plus a 3 and a 6 is a little too agressive. Any recommendations?

I think the plans only exist in the book. Its a GREAT book and well worth buying. Its become my running and racing 'bible'!

We took Ashley to a specialist today and she said she can start riding her bike and running again!!!! Hey, also we can have SEX!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. Thanks for everones prayers.

Peg, what kind of work do you do? I'll look for you a job. We've been hirring a lot at our base. A lot of Jobs in Pensacola right now. Plus we have some bridges to run over!!

Ah Chuck, that's awesome of you. I am a paralegal. I wish I could move to Florida. Parents are in Punta Gorda and sister is in Palm Harbor. I was born in Lakeland but moved when I was a baby.

No news today on the job. I figured I wouldn't with it being Friday.

I tried to go run but the shins are still in pain. I think it may be time for some new shoes.

Well, I am going to have a bunch of beers tonight. shhhhhh.

We are having the hot air balloon festival out here so it will be nice to try and run in the morning with all the balloons. Oh JOE an LAUREL did you guys know that??? It is really neat to see.

Check back tomorrow. Have a great Friday.

Hi Slave! So you're running 3 days/week now? Have you thought to add a fourth in there to up your base to around 20 gradually? I'm starting some sort of formal HM training in March for a HM (actually it's only a 20K, but close enough...) on May 31st, but I haven't picked out a plan yet. I figured it was best to build up my base mileage for now. I am building my mileage up slowly... 15 mpw in Nov, 18 mpw in Dec, and 20 in Jan and Feb before the program. I run 4x per week, and probably won't increase to any more than that. So i might find a modified HM plan.

Chuck, great news!! Have fun celebrating this weekend!

Joe, I read all sorts of stuff. Nothing's off limits, except for cheesy romance novels, I'm not into them. What kinds of podcasts do you like? My two faves are This American Life and RadioLab. But I subscribe to tons of them - don't have a chance to listen to them all.

Peg, enjoy those beers. I might have one or two myself, and for me, that's kicking back!! (I'm a lightweight, so I usually don't have more than two or I pay for it the next day. My college drinking self would be so disappointed in my 34 year old mom self.)

Happy Friday, everyone! Except Cara - is it Saturday for you yet?
