The Long Haul - Week of 10/28

Hello Long-Haulers!

I am glad to see so many people still out there keeping their running up. Also, I would like to thank all of you who continue to post and share your stories. If it were not for this group, I would have bailed from running. I read your posts and think about how hard was to get through C25K and it makes me want to keep going. I dropped in on some even newer newbies in their 3rd week of C25K and it was really interesting to read all of their posts. Motivational too. They're dreading the 20 minute run at this point. Remember that? Anyway, keep the posts coming and have a great week!!

Still here. Have not run since Thursday. I was going to do some pool running today but I ended up having to go to work.
I'm going to try and run Tuesday. My foot is feeling much better. I'm hoping it was just a strain or bruise or some other nonsense. But it no longer hurts. I'm going to try and walk on the treadmill tomorrow or maybe do some pool running. If that doesn't hurt, I'm back to running. I can tell if I don't get back to it soon....................I won't get back at all
I'm such a creature of habit. Once I get out of my routine, it's so hard to start it again.

Keep up the good work everyone. And keep on posting about how you're doing. I know it sure helps me to know you all are in this with me.

Not dead yet....

I didn't manage my 2-mile run on Friday after a 7.5 hour car ride back from Massachusetts. Just couldn't get myself out the door again.

I did manage my 4.5 mile run this morning; my longest run yet! I'm still running well below my typical pace in an effort to let my knee and hip continue to heal. I still get periodic twinges of pain, but they're pretty good for the most part.

Tomorrow's a cross-training day (supposed to be a 30 minute walk, but I'll spend the same amount of time on the elliptical). It's also supposed to be crazy cold tonight -- we have a frost warning from the National Weather Service. I'm glad I ordered my gloves a couple of weeks ago!

Glad to hear your foot's feeling better, kimber. Be cautious with it, though. Better to play things a little conservatively and let things heal up than to take a chance and get knocked out of commission entirely.

Hi everybody!

Still running, did around 3 miles yesterday. The weather is seasonable now (we were having record highs), and it was so nice to run in cooler temps.

kimber, your plan of trying out walking on the treadmill sounds good. In fact, I was going to recommend that to you! Take it slow and take it easy. I know it's hard to do that.

It's good to see everyone is still running, that's good!!!!! Keep us posted on your runs.

I have been having trouble with my right shin for a few weeks, nothing I did seemed to help. I did a lot of research on the web and talked to several local runners, one thing that kept coming up was that my shoes was wore out. I bought my NB 754's in July when I started running and didn't think that they could be the problem. My birthday is Wednesday and my wife asked me what I wanted and I said a new pair of shoes, that way I would have two pair to run in. Today we went to City Runners, he looked at the bottom of my old shoes and said that I run on pavement and showed me where they were worn out at. I was shocked!!!!! He had me try on a couple pair of Asics and the TN743's felt the best while running on the TM in the store, and there was no pain in my shins. I will watch the mileage on these shoes and I will by some more before these wear out. I track my runs and races on Runners World site.

I ran in a 5K Saturday and finished in 32:45, I was running with a good friend and this is the second race that he has run the whole distance. We came across the finish line together.

Happy running,

Frank N Mississippi

Hola, Long Haulers.

I did a 4 mile low heart rate run yesterday. I was actually able to run a little faster for the first 2 miles and maintain my HR target, so that's motivating. I know this method takes time to show results and I'm just in the 5th week of doing it.

Everyone take care of those injuries!

Vanessa

Wow, you guys are doing great. Vanessa, you ran 4 miles!!
juststarted got out in the cold and ran 3.5 miles in the early morning hours.
Frank ran a great 5K, pinky ran 3 miles and Don ran 4.5. You all ROCK!!

I walked 30 minutes on the treadmill today. I'm beginning to think it's a soft tissue injury. It feels fine until I put on my shoe. It hurts right where the tongue of my shoe lies. I think I might have laced them too tight and bruised my foot.
Anyway, I'm going to run in the morning. Should be fun. Rain and 25 mph wind. Oh, and 85 degrees. A perfect Florida day

Don, I should have ran 4.5 miles two weeks ago. But I had my 5K. Than I was going to do it last week-end but my foot hurt.. I'm supposed to be doing 5 this Saturday. I am so far off my schedule.............it's driving me crazy. Must be my OCD

Stay safe everyone

Uh, bump....

Nothing exciting to report. Just got back from a nice 2 miler. Amazing how crowded the neighborhood was a 6am! I also get lots of funny looks running around in my bright yellow Brooks reflector hat with a flashing RoadID strobe on the back of my shirt while carrying a small LED flashlight. All I can say is if I get hit, they were aiming at me.

Best part of today's run was that I went ahead and pushed myself to see how the knee and hip are doing, and no pain at all. I'll still take it easy for my next few runs, but it's nice to know that I can kick it into high gear (for a little while at least) without dooming myself to limping around for the rest of the week.

I know what you mean about getting off schedule, kimber. I've missed a few runs, but I've been able to make them up. I haven't missed any long runs yet, but I'm sure it's coming.

I'm signing up for an 8k Turkey Trot and another 5k, so November will be a busy month. I think my wife is getting interested in the 5k, too. She'll probably walk it, but she's getting curious about this running thing. How cool is that?!

Have a great rest-of-the-week, everyone.

Don

Happy Halloween Long Haulers!

I did 3 miles last night. I really was tired (I run after work), and had disturbed sleep, so I didn't want to do anything! But I pushed myself and was glad to do something rather than nothing.

I'm having intestinal distress today (tyring to be delicate ), so I will take it easy. I hope this goes away soon.

Congrats to us all for keeping going!

Vanessa

Hi everyone. I'm trying to get back on track. My foot is doing better. I ran 2 miles on the dreadmill today. It was just too windy today. I ran in the wind yesterday and the gusts kept blowing me sideways
I'm trying to get back on my schedule. I think I'll try and run 4.5 miles Saturday. I have 3 weeks all out of sync and it will probably take me 3 weeks to get it straightened out. It's only the long runs that are messed up.
Anyway, not much new with me. Some domestic issues but I guess that's just part of life. At least I have an excuse to leave the house - "I'm going running". Seems to do the trick

Oh, have you eaten any Halloween candy? I'm trying to stay out of it, lol. We didn't have one trick-or-treater. So I have a lot of chocolate to stare at.

Be safe.

Good evening long haulers.

I didn't run yesterday, as I was still kind of weak from the stomach bug. I did 4 miles today of my walk/run (low heart rate training).

I'm going to go car shopping tomorrow and do some housecleaning. I'll run again on Sunday.

Go Long Haulers!
