St Anthony's 25 year anniversary race

Anybody signed up for St Anthony's Tri??? Anybody have tips from last year?? I have done a longer race but never an open ocean swim. I need tips on wetsuits, goggles, dealing with jellyfish (preventing stings), how not to swallow saltwater.........

Got signed up :D

Last years swim was nice. The previous year was
crazy. About the the time the middle of the age group
packs were starting the breaking waves were around 4 foot
and not just on shore but out at the turn buoys.

The past 2 years have been wetsuit legal, I wear a sleeveless
but a lot of racers wear fulls. I wouldn't worry about jellyfish,
and swallowing some salt water is a given especially if it's
choppy like 2006, I do not have any tips on that except maybe
breath to the opposite side of the waves (left side breathing)
after making the first turn.

It's nice on the way back in to ride the waves. B-)

I know St. Anthony's is "sold out", but I live in St. Pete, and I would love to get in if there is anyway to get around it...any ideas/recommendations/reality checks would be appreciated.

St. Anthonys was my very first triathlon and this will be my 8th straight year. Wet suit legal 90% of the time (only once since I started was it not a wetsuit swim). Technically your swimming in Tampa Bay, which can be as flat as a lake race morning or extremely choppy with large swells and very challenging. I have done it in a sleevless suit and full. Personal preference I guess. Taking on some salt water is a given. The swim course is counter clock wise with two left turns so a left sided breather can see the bouys and not be breathing into the waves (for the most part). I have never heard of any jelly fish issues. The swim starts next to the pier which is a public swimming beach.

Bike is flat but technical with alot of turns. Run is always hot (I only remember one year were the temps were not hot). Fun race and very well organized.

Good luck! :)
