Hey guys thanks for your support regarding my 5K I am looking for a new one to get into. I notice it keeps me motivated.
My run last night went well. I think I need to invest in some night time running clothes, some kind of reflector, and gloves for my hands they were freezing but toward the end of the run they got warmer.
I need something to cover my mouth also, the cold air was making it a little harder to breath. But I did complete my whole run. But when I put my run into mapmyrun.com it only comes up 2 miles. As you all know I have to work up to 3 miles for a 5k. I need a new route. Maybe this weekend I can look around for one in my area . I wish there was a track I could run near my house that would help.
Last night I picked up individual serving size bag's of Doritos Ranch Chips I don't like them so I am safe. If I have candy especially chocolate I will be doomed and Saturday is weigh in day for me at WW. I need a good weigh in I had a bad one last weekend I was so off plan at my daughters, but now I feel back on track. It is so strange when I'm eating junk food and not exercising I feel so out of sorts I just feel unbalanced, but when I'm eating healthy and working out I feel my best.
Hope everyone is having a good day!
Maria

macd - thanks. The whirlpool did help and I did a lot of stretching this morning after a light weight workout. I'll do the water aerobics this afternoon again - that always helps. And I have been drinking a lot of water! I hear you about starting 20 or 30 years earlier, but better late than never!

lml - sorry the hip is worse. Have you tried any water therapy?

Did anyone see the PBS Nova program last night on the Boston Marathon? Very inspiring and educational.

Did you guys get this email from CoolRunning.com?

Greetings Cool Runners,

As you may already know, Cool Running is integrating its login system, forums and training logs with The Active Network around the end of November 2007. To ensure that all CR members experience a smooth transition and understand the details behind the changes, below you'll find answers to FAQ'-s.

If you have specific questions or concerns, please email Active.com support or visit the Active Transition board on Cool Running.

We will send a reminder email along with the specific date of the transition in the coming days.

Active login information is Email and Password rather than Member Name and Password. You will have a Member Name on Active, we just call it Display Name.
If you notice a few extra digits at the end of your Display Name, that means another Active Network user had the same one. You'll be able to update your Display Name at anytime within the Account section of My Active.
If you already had an Active account and used the same email address in your account on both sites, you'll now use your Active login info on Cool Running. You may also use your new Active account to log in to any Active Network-managed managed Web service or property.
Active's privacy policy includes everything outlined in the CR policy. Active goes a bit deeper to cover all our services. You can read it here: http://www.activenetwork.com/privacy-policy.htm[/URL" target="_blank">
You will still log in and interact on the forums directly within the Cool Running site, not on the Active community site. CR will remain in its own community space. Rest assured, all past threads and replies will be migrated to the new forums.
The new forums will provide staff and moderators with more moderation tools and improved posting and notification features.
Active will be transitioning current CR Log users to Active Trainer. CR Log users will be able to import all their training data to their new Active Trainer account. We have made every effort to assure that no data will be lost in the transition. Using Active Trainer as a log is 100 percent free.

Best Regards,

Your friends at Active.com

This is not a good run week for many of us. Yesterday was a run day for me and I had such a terrible headache I ended up walking for a slow 2 miles. It seems worse today so I will take it easy. Are headaches a sign of menopause?

Halloween was fun. I made a huge pot of hot cider and passed it out to the adults. My kids got 16 pounds of candy - yes we weighed it! I think I am going to let them pick a resonable amount (to be negotiated) and buy the rest from them. Maybe $1.00 a pound. I can bring it to a nursing home or one of the lounges at the University. Actually...should I just throw it out? If I shouldn't eat it, other people shouldn't eat it either - right?

Hmmm, my runs have been pretty decent this week... maybe that's because our "Halloween" was Saturday, and my candy is long gone?! I did wimp out on the track this morning, though. It wasn't any colder than Tuesday, but the wind... 2 laps and I headed back to the boring but warm treadmill. Time to pick up some gloves and start layering.

Hope your headache is better, DipMom. I've actually found my headaches are mostly better since menopause started, it's just the hot flashes that make me homicidal

DipMom - walking is still good. Hope your headache is better. I suffered from migraines for years until I realized they were being caused by milk. I've been off milk since last December and have had maybe 5 headaches in the past year (as opposed to one almost every day!) Do a google search for headache causes - you may be able to get some ideas of what is triggering yours. I switched to soy milk and that helps with the hot flashes, too.

macd - I don't like the cold weather and have been dreading the cold morning runs, too. I'm planning on switching to the treadmill and doing a combination of OHR and LHR for the next few months. I'm also making a real effort to lose the last 10 pounds that have been so stubborn.

Maria - I did receive the e-mail - although I haven't taken the time to read it yet.

macd, I need to get some gloves and do some layering myself, As I mentioned above I also need some reflectors It is dark out here lol..

Dipmom, Hope that terrible headache of yours gets better.
That is such a good idea to pay them for there extra candy and give the rest to a nursing home. I love it!

Last night I worked out at home I did 30 min on the elliptical and did 20 min of strength training. I am trying to get my quads and above my knee stronger for my runs.
Can I ask you all a question? On your off days from running do you do any other exercise. I only ask because In between running I also do Zumba classes and my elliptical and weight training. I take off 1 or 2 days a week from all exercise. Is that ok?

Maria - I rarely take a total rest day, but I have been exercising for the past year. I do strength training for an hour on MWF. I usually do water aerobics on MW for an hour. And on the days I don't run, I try and walk at least an hour. My doc told me yesterday I need to get back on the bike because it uses different leg muscles and balances out what I am doing with the running. I'm planning on starting a spinning class at the club when my knee settles down again. My goal is to burn off 3500 calories a week through exercise.

jb944, That is awesome. That's why I love my Zumba classes it works a lot of different muscles that I don't use, because it is a lot of different dance moves. maybe I will add in an extra day and only take one day off. Thanks for your input. : )

Maria - forgot to mention - I do monitor my resting heart rate. You need to take it before you get out of bed in the morning. If it is elevated, it is a sign of overtraining and I back off of my schedule for a day or so.

jb -- I know this is a little late, but I watched that NOVA show the other night on the marathon runners, I was so sucked into it! how inspiring was that? when a few of those people crossed the finish line at the end of the show, you couldn't help but feel the emotion too!
I've done W2D2 and tomorrow I'm going to finish week 2. I'm glad I just jumped in and did this week, because its been a lot easier than I thought it would be. I haven't lost any weight (still 240 lbs) but feel a little more healthy. I've resisted most of the halloween candy so far.
DipMom -- thanks for the link for when to run! I'm actually already using my wristwatch, it has an interval setting where you can get it to beep after different times to tell you when to run or when to walk and goes on a repeating cycle. How did you guys find week 3 compared to week 2?

eyedocguy - glad to hear that w2 is almost done. Personally, I found every week challenging in the program, but you need to trust the program and just push through. It really does work. As far as weight loss, the gurus on these boards say run for fitness and eat to lose weight. I've tried all kinds of diets over the years, but have found that if I just consistently eat 10 servings of fruits and vegies, that works. My theory is that if you are eating that much in fruits and vegies, you don't have room for a lot of other stuff. I also eat a small amount of protein at each meal and snack - and I eat 5-6 times a day - but small amounts of food each time.

I've moved to the treadmill this week and have found it a lot easier. I did an easy 30 minute run tonight and felt like I could have kept going.

Where did everyone go? I miss hearing how everyone is doing. Hopefully the injuries are healing.

jb, Thanks for that advice. Sounds like a good idea. I need to get a heart rate monitor, because I can not take my own heart rate, I get it all messed up when I try. : )

eye, welcome, every time I started a new week I felt more like a runner, some weeks were easier then others, but it does get easier as you go on. Listen to jb and trust the program it really works.
As for weight loss I do weight watchers and I have lost 45 pounds so far. I want to lose another 15 or maybe 20 pounds, then I will be back in a size 6. That is my goal.
Good luck on your journey and remember whatever you choose to loose weight make it a life style something you can do forever or else the weight comes right back on.

so I finished week 2 today, and it felt great and it felt like I accomplished something. I had a little tightness in my left lower calf on the backside but just needs to be stretched out. also noticed something weird... my new running sneakers (Asics Gel nimbus) feel good while I'm running, but if I'm walking or in the house somewhere they're uncomfortable. weird.

jb- your right about the fruits and veggies, I've been trying to bring tons of apples and stuff to work. I only really get hungry when theres a lull in the action, and then the apples are there staring me in the face. so far so good.

nugirl - your right, I do feel accomplished after each run. I just looked ahead to week 3, and 3 minutes of jogging seems pretty tough, but I will give it a try on sunday. I used to do weight watchers and it worked GREAT, but it became pretty expensive over the long haul, and counting points got pretty cumbersome. I'll probably go back to it sometime though.

anybody else looking forward to watching the NY marathon for motivation?
