Hi gals (and arrow if you are lurking!)
Here is my race report from the weekend:
I have to start writing things down. I could have swore this race started at 9 a.m. so I was there at 8:30 for last minute registration. I was getting kind of worried as it looked like it was going to be a very, very small group of runners. Well, closer to 10 a.m. when the race really started, there were many more challengers. duh!
This race is 70% trails, 5% road, and 20% beach - along the beautiful shores of Lake Michigan. I totally blocked out how hilly and challenging this course is and the very first hill kicked my butt. It was about 30 degrees with 5-10 mph hour winds. Getting up that hill, huffing and puffing, sucking in the cold air made the rest of the race miserable. I developed a headache, so did some walking - especially on the steeper hills.
This is advertised as a 10K - but both last year and this year my Garmin clocked it at 4.6 miles. Quite a difference!
Mile 3.25 finds us running out towards the shores of Lake Michigan with the waves rolling in. It is quite a site to see all the runners ahead of you along the beach - I reached for my phone to take a picture - but I had left it in my truck. 1.5 miles down the beach and then the turn up into the sand to get back to the finish line/pavilion. That is the worst section of the whole race. Deep, loose sand going up hill. UGH!
I was very happy to see the finish line and my official time was 55:39. Last year 56:36 - so a PR of one minute. Afterwards I bought MrHopeful and I breakfast and I'm feeling much better now.
Yesterday my neighbor and I went out for a cold 10 miler. The cold wasn't so bad - it was the intense wind as we got closer to home. The last 2 miles were brutal and we each decided that if we were running alone, we probably would have been walking - so we are good for each other.
Bugs - That is great news about helping DS get his belt. Well worth the time - there are plenty of races in your future.
Mary - how are the legs feeling?? Tell Arrow that my DH got his first buck with a bow. After 2 years and letting him buy one this year (bow) I was starting to wonder. He is still on cloud 9 about it.
Happy Monday! Anyone have to cook Turkey this week? I just have to bake an apple pie, lemon meringue pie and green been casserole. I can handle that.
