Hi gals (and arrow if you are lurking!)

Here is my race report from the weekend:

I have to start writing things down. I could have swore this race started at 9 a.m. so I was there at 8:30 for last minute registration. I was getting kind of worried as it looked like it was going to be a very, very small group of runners. Well, closer to 10 a.m. when the race really started, there were many more challengers. duh!
This race is 70% trails, 5% road, and 20% beach - along the beautiful shores of Lake Michigan. I totally blocked out how hilly and challenging this course is and the very first hill kicked my butt. It was about 30 degrees with 5-10 mph hour winds. Getting up that hill, huffing and puffing, sucking in the cold air made the rest of the race miserable. I developed a headache, so did some walking - especially on the steeper hills.

This is advertised as a 10K - but both last year and this year my Garmin clocked it at 4.6 miles. Quite a difference!

Mile 3.25 finds us running out towards the shores of Lake Michigan with the waves rolling in. It is quite a site to see all the runners ahead of you along the beach - I reached for my phone to take a picture - but I had left it in my truck. 1.5 miles down the beach and then the turn up into the sand to get back to the finish line/pavilion. That is the worst section of the whole race. Deep, loose sand going up hill. UGH!

I was very happy to see the finish line and my official time was 55:39. Last year 56:36 - so a PR of one minute. Afterwards I bought MrHopeful and I breakfast and I'm feeling much better now.

Yesterday my neighbor and I went out for a cold 10 miler. The cold wasn't so bad - it was the intense wind as we got closer to home. The last 2 miles were brutal and we each decided that if we were running alone, we probably would have been walking - so we are good for each other.

Bugs - That is great news about helping DS get his belt. Well worth the time - there are plenty of races in your future.

Mary - how are the legs feeling?? Tell Arrow that my DH got his first buck with a bow. After 2 years and letting him buy one this year (bow) I was starting to wonder. He is still on cloud 9 about it.

Happy Monday! Anyone have to cook Turkey this week? I just have to bake an apple pie, lemon meringue pie and green been casserole. I can handle that.

Morning!!

Oh what an adventure on this mild Michigan morning. We were barely out of the driveway and Brinkley is rolling on the ground as he tripped himself up - so excited to be out for a run. Silly dog . . .

Into mile two a large truck went by which startled Brinkley for some reason, making him jump right into my path. Well, then it was like slow motion as I watched the ground come up to meet me and the words came out Oooh fuuudge! . . . Only I didn't say "Fudge." I said THE word, the big one, the queen-mother of dirty words, the "F-dash-dash-dash" word!

Luckily I had on my gloves yet, and thermal pants so no damage was done - other than to my pride. 5 miles - 9:30 pace. 300 crunches and 50 pushups.

Happy 2s-Day!!

Hopeful,
Great race. Sounds pretty and tough all at the same time. Shocking how far off their advertised course is.

Mary,
You are determined. Just trying to keep you off the injured list. How about just a nice tempo run.

Had my DS1's conference today so no noon workout. He ran his 1/4 mile in 2:51 and did not make it on the 'fit list' according to report card. I guess we have to work on that and reading more.

My five year old wants to start Tae Kwon Doe, we are venturing into parenthood where all you do is run your kids around, oh we had so it so easy for awhile.

What are you guys doing for Thanksgiving? DH is on call so I'm cooking. Told the kids I'd make them ANYTHING they wanted. So far they want sherbert punch and chocolate cake.

So, do you have room for one more!?

4 miles for Brinkley and I this moring at 9:30 pace. We are suppose to get snow tonight, so I'm sort of looking forward to 6 miles in the white stuff tomorrow. Although is is suppose to be quite windy too.

I hope you all have a great weekend!

I just run down the tire tracks the best I can. What snow we get tonight will not amount to a lot I don't think. The first is just so pretty though and so quiet!

I don't eat venison! Bluck.

Love the joke - my coworker is a vegetarian - I'll have to go tell it to her.

Mary,
I just told you to wait another week, because 99.9% of our too anxious to get back on the roads and that fast running is hard on the body.

My weight is so bad, holly **** I saw 127 yesterday. I know some of it is muscle, this biking makes big leg muscles, but man I'm getting scared. I'm moving to a fat farm, with a bunch of "bad hunters".

Got the flu today, Trying to keep my calories down, but frick the pop felt better. Ah frick, I'll be fat another day.

Anybody go shopping today? I did for awhile, next year I'm skipping Herbergers, they make it near to impossible to use that $10 coupon.

Sapphire is back. Get off your butt of your candle warmer and get some runs in.

Mary,
Thought you were posting race splits. You've gotten faster! Maybe I should start doing these intervals too. My weight is both muscle and fat. Luckily I always loose weight before x-mas, weird, but true.

Hopeful,
Did you do post x-mas shopping? I don't know what I'll do with the 'good deals' I bought. I know nobody that needs a MP3 player or portable DVD player but I got them because the price is right. I gotta start using my head better.

Everybody still dealing with the flu. 4 miles yesterday, and bagged a beautiful run at 2.7 miles today. Dehydrated.
