Saphire,
PT pretty cool. What kind of stuff does he have you do? Is he hot? You a trust fund baby? If so go buy yourself a candle warmer, and a doggie purse while you're at it.

Mary,
What's your LR? Building up a nice LR would help you more than intervals, IMO.

This was my house today:
Dad: He's well enough to go to school.
Mom: He his been vomiting for four days, and has not had food in his stomach since. He may not have a fever but his eyes are red. He feels warm to me.
Dad: He's ate a rice crispy bar. I think he could go.
Mom: He says he's sick. He's just six years old. You can't just expect him to bounce back, and he says his throat hurts. He needs to go the doctor.
Dad: {sigh} {grumble}

Doc said he has a really bad ear infection, didn't test for strep. Now the kid is pooping.

And the Dad's wonder why the kids want Mom when they are sick?!

5 glorious miles today.

Mary,
I have never done a plan like that, but believe in the long run for all runners. Ran my best 5K when I was doing 20 mile LRs, but I don't recommend that. 9-12 would be awesome. I think you're running really good, especially for 17 miles a week.

I need to work on LR myself. I was up to 8, but the last two weeks stuff got messed up. I've got my short runs up to 4-5. I swam a mile last night. I'm biking hard twice a week. Lifting weights. Just my luck, I'm ready for a triathlon now but it's winter.

I'm doing a 12K in January. I suppose I should figure out a plan for that.

Hi Everyone - espcially sapphire! Welcome Back!!

Bugs I doubt you are overweight by any stretch of the imagination! For the first time this year I got up at 4:30 a.m. to go to Best Buy - my DD#1 wanted to go to Circuit City - so she drove and dropped me off. I got my item ($300 savings) and then we went to Target. What a zoo!!
How is everyone's health? I can remember taking the kids to the doctor and saying "you better be sick!"

Willmary That was a nice 7 miler last weekend - up/down/up/down - yikes! I'm glad my runs are relatively flat - although I do need to work on hills! How about intervals every other week and just add one on each time if you feel up to it - start with 4 or 5.

Sapphire So how are the puppies!? Did you ever get a new one? You need to post some photos!!

I just cannot imagine swimming a mile . . . . I cannot swim accross the short end of a pool!

{{{Arrow}}} he sure has had his share of hardships lately.

My LR of late has been 10 miles - only 8 this past Sunday. I have 111 miles in this month and 906 for the year - 1,000 is my goal!!! So, that is what keeps me going and motivated on these cold mornings!

Tuesday Brinkley and I ran 4 miles at 9:15 pace - shockingly fast for me.
Wednesday morning we ran 3.5 miles at 9:16 pace!!

Then there was this morning - I left him at home as I wanted to take it easy. The air temp this morning was 27 degrees - however, the "blustery" 15-30 mph winds out of the west with "gusts" up to 40 mph plummeted the wind chill to 11 degrees. Why was I out there? I kept asking myself as Bob Seger kept singing I'm running against the wind over and over again. I guess I'm just a little bit nuts.

4.5 very slow - sometimes backwards - miles.

May the wind be always at your back . . . .

~Mary

Oops - WillMary, I will take Brinkly if it is just snow, but if it is icey he stays home. I am afraid he'll pull me and make me fall down, go boom! All the dogs love the snow though!!

Hi guys,

To answer your questions:
PT is a hunk, but not my type....not that I'm looking, I'm very happily married
He's doing exactly what I asked him to do...that is: kick my tush!
I've been floundering with my exercise routines and weight loss recently, and chose Bob as my PT because, at the "Meet the Trainers" night at the gym, he was the only trainer, nodding and smiling every time I said, I needed to step things up, work harder and start sweating bullets again!
He doesn't use machines much, mostly free-weights and some cable work. Some of my favorite (!!!) (masochistic!) exercises include:
Push-up position, lat pulls, dirt diggers, and walking lunges with bicep curls.
I cancelled today's session because I have a 1/2 marathon tomorrow (if the Zicam works!) In the three sessions I've worked with Bob, it's been tough, fun and enlightening all at the same time.

No. No puppies yet
I want to get another woofie, I really do, but I also really want another show dog, and local breeders are very, "political" when it comes to show quality stock...they have their favorite people, and I'm not one of them...seems they didn't like it, when I suggested the club newsletter be filled with articles relating to canine health rather than show results which exult them!!!
So getting another, quality dog will mean traveling across the country and possibly out of the country, and I've just been too busy (snapping up foreclosures!) to do that.

London marathon: Yes! I would love to do it next year...it's on my list of things to do, in the year I turn 50. If not next year, then 2009 when I am 50

I think that brings me up to date...sorry, I don't seem to be keeping up as much as I'd planned to, and don't post as much as I should...hopefully things will settle down a bit now, with the "holidays" coming up!

Have a great weekend everyone.

Mary,
Wow so sorry to hear about Arrow. Did they do an MRI? Had he been doing a lot of speed work? He should try to enjoy the rest a little bit, he'll be running again soon.

I was pretty excited to swim a mile, but I know I'm swimming slow. If I were to race, I would beat the people that have to keep their head out of the water - maybe. The ironmen guys at the Y were helping today. They said I need to relax more, using my legs too much, and lifting my chin a little. Seems I have plenty of room for improvement. The nice thing about the front crawl is that it's almost all upper body and doesn't affect my running.

Hopeful,
You run always outside? It is snowing here, it stinks. Last year we didn't have much snow, suppose to be more this year. I wore screw shoes today, which don't really work with the orthotics. Twice I went "ouch" when a screw pressed into the ball of my shoe. I should have just wore normal shoes, as there was no ice yet. The cold is not so bad, just wear layers, but this snow changes my stride. Hopefully the roads are plowed and tomorrows run is better. I'm finally injury free but the weather makes running feel impossible.

Saphire,
The PT sounds great. Does he work with you on running training plan too? I would like to get a PT for swimming, but don't know of one, until then I just flirt with the ironmen. Good luck with your half marathon.

Today: 5 on TM, 1.5 outside, 45 min swimming. Might do another TM run tonight.

26 this week. I logged 62 for the month, but got lazy about logging. I've switched to SportTracks now because it supports multi-sports. I'm fine with my current mileage, but need to get some faster running.

Mary,
I want to hear more about Arrow in December, k!
