Lol... I also go climbing but not got round to that for ages! If only I could give up work it'd be much easier Take it easy with the hip - when I had an ache a few weeks back I found a few days off really helped

Laurel - wow a marathon... I'd love to do one someday but one step at a time for me. You should go for it if you feel ready

Kevin - I miss hiking too I wonder if I could load my work onto a Garmin... or maybe I should train as a personal trainer instead

Runjr - Blimey you're fast! I'm jealous...

Those with injuries - take it easy (I know - I'm not very good at that either) and hope you're back fighting fit soon

As for me...
4.8 miles done tonight in 51 minutes - assuming my long run goes well on Saturday I'll top 20 miles this week for the first time... and double celebration that my next run will take me over 200 miles (I started counting after C25K)... Yipee!

Happy running all...

And one final good luck to JOE!!!

Marilyn, good luck on that 6 miler. Hey, before long you will be saying "I only ran 6 miles today."

Monnik, glad to here you had a good run. About the hip, are you talking about just stiffness when you get up in the morning or actual pain when you run?

Carol, glad to hear there are others on this thread doing the Komen with relatives. Had to laugh when you said that your hubby thought that your stride was not as smooth as before. Hey, it's good to know that he is still looking. lol

When I read about all the injuries, this thread is starting to sound like a battle field. We need everyone to rest up and get better.

Chuck, after my run at the gym last night, I decided that it was time to hit the weights. Haven't done that since I was running on the treadmill last fall/winter. I really don't know if it helps or hurts my snail paced running. I just do it because I know that it is good for me. Plus, I only do upper body. I figure running 20 to 25 miles a week is enough for my legs.

Tough day at work today. As a result I got to the gym a little late and my 5 miler turned into a 4 miler. But the run went well except for the treadmill boredom.

wbertha

PS almost forgot...Good Luck, Joe!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OK - question for you guys...!

I've just checked out the details for the 10K I was planning for February, and it's got a 1:15 cut-off time.

I've only so far ran three times over 10K, first 1:07, second 1:15 and third 1:10

Am I kidding myself and aiming too high, or is this doable? I don't really want to do too much speed training as i've only been running 6 months and I am ultimately aiming for a HM a month after in March

Thought / Advice?
Cara

PS - no running for me tonight but thinking of going for a swim... one mile swim should do it

GOOD MORNING EVERYBODY! Hope all are healing and the rest are well - I ran 3.5 this a.m. - WITHOUT knee wrapped - think I've been focusing too much on the knee & ran a bit "guarded" last run. Slower run than usual, but OK. Taking a rest day between each run for a bit until I knee heals a bit more...

Sorry to those of you with irritating and serious injury - a stress fracture, SPICEGEEK, uggh! Fast and strong healing wishes to you!

Yay, MONNIK! So glad you had a good run - we all have ups and downs, don't we?!? You should be quite proud of yourself for sticking in there & not giving up hope! It's amazing what our bodies can do...they also get tired sometimes & let us know, don't they? Hip pain? How severe? I know that knee can refer pain to the hip and hip can refer pain to the knee - also, if your feet strike the ground differently or you "favor" one side vs. the other & put more stress on one hip, knee, etc. - plus, when one side hurts, then you are relatively off balance too...OK, I'm rambling. Google "chi running" and you can find some specific tips!

CARA - no marathon for me - at least not anytime soon! I know my post was vague - Peg & I were talking about the Houston HALF marathon!! I don't think I'm quite ready for a HM in mid-Jan either...don't know!

CAROL - thanks for the offer for your White Rock HM bib - I'm definitely not ready for a November HM! Have you visited the "neighborhood" discussion board & offered your bib to Dallas runners? I really appreciate your kindness! Hope you feel better very soon!

MARILYN - I've thought about the Houston 3M HM - mid February, right? Do you know much about the course? Pretty hilly - tho' description says the end of the course (last 4miles?) is "downhill." Must be a gorgeous and exhilarating place to run.

RUNJR, KEVEE, STAN, CHUCK, WBERTHA & SHEILA - Bravo on your runs - run, run for the rest of us that are either injured or cutting back!

JOE - If you are checking in - GO-GO-GOOOOOOO! Have fun & a great run!

MISSWENDY - Welcome!

PEG - How ya doin'? Hang in there - sorry to hear the shins are still buggin you - did you try chuck's pixie cup/ice trick? Keep us posted.

Whew - so sorry for leaving anybody out - gotta go to work now! Adios - have a GREAT weekend! I will check back in - my next run will be on Sunday - will try for 5 or 6 miles on the old knee!

Hey everyone!

Well, I tried to run last night but the hip was acting up again. I listened to it, though, and only ran 400 meters. Then I walked for 2 miles instead. It seems to be ok if I have a rest day in between each run, so for now I'm going to force myself to do that.

It's actual pain during running, and stiffness afterwards, particularly in the mornings. It's hard to explain, but it kind of feels like my hip needs to be popped back into place. Strange, I know. I do think I favor my right side while running, so that could be part of it. It's also worse when I run on the TM - my gait must be different than when outside, but unfortunately, I don't have a lot of outside running opportunities at the moment.

I think I'll scale back the 6 M tomorrow to 4 so that I don't overdo it. I want to make sure I'm 100% before I get into my HM training program in February or March.

Cara, you can totally smash that time limit. Go for it!!! I think you'll rock that 10K.

Laurel, that's great that you ran without the knee wrapped. hopefully it's on the mend!!

Welcome, Misswendy!

Chuck and wbertha, I am also wanting to start doing upper body training. but I don't belong to a gym, any free weight suggestions?

I've said it before, but I'll say it again... Run, Joe, Run! Can't wait to hear about the race.

TGIF, and have a great weekend everyone!

Morning gang! TGIF! Well its almost Sunday! LOL Need to make sure I have everything ready before going out of town. However, won't be leaving until tomorrow.

Misswendy - Welcome to our group/thread! Wow, you are new and already have a half coming up Dec 8th??? Add your race to our calendar and put yourself on our map too! See the links at the end of this post. BTW, the member password for the map is "hm" Hope you do more than just "listen". We want to hear from you too!

Wbertha - Hope you have a better day today, but at least you did have a good run! Oh and thanks!

Cara - I say go for it! Race times are always faster than training times. I'm sure you'll come in well under the cutoff time! Hope that swim goes well for you!

Laurel - Glad you had a nice run this morning!! Thanks!! Hope that knee holds up for your run this weekend!

Monnik - Good for you in listening to that hip! Yes, you don't want to overdo anything at this point.

Joe
