The Long Haul - Still Running

Good Morning Long Haulers. This is the beginning of our new, non-week-specific thread! On to the first run report...

Kimber inspired me yesterday and I was out of the door at 7 am today. Got into my pace and 5 miles later!!!! was feeling pretty good. That last mile was hard, but I feel like I know what to expect next week in my 8k. I think I will do 3 on Tuesday and then 2.5 on Thursday and the my race Saturday. Does that seem right?

Anyway, happy running everyone!!

Lol, not much to say. Today was a 30 minute walk day. And I worked out at the gym. Tomorrow is a rest day. But it was a beautiful day here in Florida. I actually opened the windows and turned off the A/C. I don't think it's been off since April!

So, juststarted, you ran 5 miles! That's great. I'm glad I inspired you
Is your 8K on Saturday or Sunday? I haven't quite figured out how much to run before a race. Friday is a rest day for me but I did run 2 miles on the Friday before my last race. I'm usually kind of stiff and slow for the first mile or so when I haven't run for a few days. So I run a little bit the day before a race.
I also ran the morning of my last 5K. I really am a slow starter, lol, so I probably ran about a mile as a warm-up.

I can't remember. Is this a charity run? Didn't you sign up for this race before you started C25K? I remember you had a reason for running this race but I can't remember what it was.
I'm trying to decide whether to run a 4K on Thanksgiving. I haven't registered yet but I'm thinking I will.

Our numbers seem to have dwindled. I hope everyone is out running and simply too busy to post.

So juststarted, you run 3 on Tuesday and I'll run 2. Deal?

I'm still around! Really!

This morning I got out kinda late, and I was astonished to see packs of runners all around. Turns out there was a 5k just around the corner from me that I hadn't known about. I had a three mile run today, so I should just have signed up!

My run was good, and I spent about ten minutes afterwards as a spectator as the racers made their way up the main street about a half block from my house.

I'm signing up for a 5k that's happening this coming Saturday. I figure that should give me enough of a rest before the 8k on Thanksgiving.

Glad to hear that you're all out there and running. Tomorrow's a cross-training day (about an hour on the elliptical), and Tuesday's a rest day. Then it's back to the roads on Wednesday for another 2 miler.

Have a great week everyone.

Don

It it good to see everyone still running and posting.

I didn't have a 5K this weekend, the next one will be Nov. 10. I went to the track yesterday and didn't have any shin problems but my right knee is still hurting, I'm going to stay off the track again this week and not planning on running any races after the 10th until my knee heals up. I have been going to the gym and doing about 1 hour of cardio and working on my core everyday, one day I will work on my legs and the next day I will work on my arms. Going to the gym helps, but it's not the same as running.

I hope everyone stays healthy and keeps putting one foot in front of the other.

I'm still here! I haven't run for a few days -- but I've done a lot of walking. Just feel like I needed to take a mini-break. I am running tomorrow morning, for sure.

juststarted, have you had vertigo before? Have you recently had a cold? Hope you get over that, soon. Let us know what the Doctor said.

Well, juststarted, an inner-ear infection will certainly give you the symptoms of vertigo. I hope you get well soon. Good luck on your race on Saturday! Keep us posted.

I ran this morning, as promised. However, I had to run on the treadmill. It was raining outside. I really hate running on the treadmill, but I did it.

W8D1 of OHR today. It was cold and windy. Oddly enough, I ran my best pace to date. I just can't wait til I finish up this program so I can move on to half marathon training.

Ran 2 miles this morning and froze! I know you all think I'm ridiculous but I really froze. It was 61 degrees with some wind. I had a tech t-shirt and a long sleeve tech shirt over it. And shorts. I sweat a lot. My bra was soaked, my t-shirt was soaked, the long sleeve shirt was damp and the wind chilled me to the bone.
I've laid out my clothes for tomorrow. I'm adding another shirt to the mix, a band to cover my ears and gloves. I know it sounds a little over the top but I was chilled to the bone when I got home. I've tried to pick runs out of the direct wind but sooner or later I'm running into it.

juststarted, if you didn't run today, you'd better have your butt out there Thursday

pinky, I hate the dreadmill too.

I just finished a short two-mile run a few minutes ago. It's pretty brisk out there -- about 35 degrees. Just for comparison's sake, I dressed in a long sleeve technical shirt with a heavy short sleeve cotton T-shirt over it, shorts, technical gloves, and a reflective hat (not a knit hat; a Brooks NightLife hat). Socks and shoes, too.

I never would have believed that I'd find myself getting up at 5am to go running. Of course, in the past either of those alone would have raised eyebrows.

I confess to getting antsy about running outside when it snows. I've been lax and haven't yet ordered my Yaktrax, nor do I have any sort of pants to wear for running; shorts only so far. Oh, well. I guess I'll figure it out soon, since it's supposed to snow here today.

Have a good week running, Long Haulers!

Yeah, Don, I can't quite figure out this cold weather dressing. Today I wore a sleeveless tech shirt, a long-sleeve tech shirt over it, and a long sleeve cotton shirt on top of both of them. I wore gloves, ear coverings and visor. Oh, and shorts
It was 58 degrees and slight wind. I started out a little warm but I was cold midway through. By the time I got home, my bra was soaked, both tech shirts soaked and cotton shirt was damp. The wind blowing on those damp shirts made me cold. But my hands and ears were warm
I obviously sweat a lot, lol. I loose a pound of fluid with a 3 mile run. I need to figure out some way to absorb all that sweat and stay warm.

At least I don't need to worry about snow and ice.
Are you ordering stuff on-line? If so, which site do you use.

juststarted, how's the ear infection?
Christy, pinky, jazzy? How are you doing? Frank?
Everyone stay safe and warm.

I agree, it is hard to figure out what to wear. It was in the 30s and breezy this morning for my run. I wore a short-sleeve tee, a long sleeve tee, and a hoody. Half way through my run I had to take the hoody off. I guess it's better to wear too many layers and then have to start pulling them off. When it gets even cooler, I have a knitted ear band to wear, and gloves. At the end of my run, for the cool down portion, I end up getting chilly and had to put the hoody back on.
