Just starting out.

I am on week three starting tomorrow. I have not noticed any change in my wt. In fact the scale went up a pound or two. That was not good to see. I am excited about going into week 3 and can't wait to finish the 9 weeks. I was able to do 3 miles about 3 years ago on the treadmill. Now I'm starting all over. I need to clean up my diet a little bit though. I enjoy reading everyone's tid bits. It gives me reason to keep on running.

Good to hear. I wouldn't worry about the weight, it could be muscle. Muscle is heavier than fat I think. Thats what the forums are for - support. Hope you enjoy the rest of the C25K. I myself haven't even started but am planning to. I think I need a kick in tha arse to get moving.

Hello Neats and breadbin -

Don't worry about what the scale may say over the short term. I lost a lot of weight - fat - over several months of running, but in the very beginning, there was almost no positive feedback from the scale. Keep your eyes on the prize - it's not going to show up immediately, but stick to it. Go slow enough that you enjoy it (this may not sound possible right now, but it really is) enough to do for the rest of your life. A very small weightgain in the early stages of your new regimen is more likely one of two things (rather than muscle or fat gain) - you are eating a little bit more, and/or you are drinking more water (good!). Don't forget that 16 oz of water weighs a pound. I drink so much water when I'm either preparing for activity or recovering from it that my weight fluctuates greatly throughout the day, and from day to day.

Just stick with the program and keep positive about what you are doing for yourself and your loved ones.

Welcome aboard. A few more punds on the scale is not uncommon. Often people feel justified in eating a little more since they're exersizing. Also, it's best to weigh yourself once per week at exatly the same time. I do Saturday mornings as soon as I wake up. You're gonna fluctuate a bit during the week no matter what.

Also keep in mind that weightloss comes from good nutrition choices more so than running (or any exersize for that matter)

What I have learned from experience and from others is weight loss is about 85% diet and only about 15% exercise. If you get them both going at the same time your gonna lose the weight if thats your goal.
Calories in vs. Calories out. I'm currently losing about 2-3 lbs per week because I've got them both going on at the same time.

I have been running since May and finished C25K about a month and a half ago and about to start week 5 of the OHR (one hour runner) program and haven't seen a drop in the scale yet. I also haven't changed my diet at all so I know that is why. I'm hoping to get up to about 20 miles a week of running and then hopefully I'll start to see a positive change with little change to my diet (I love my carbs). BUT I have been taking monthly measurements and were my waist hasn't changed much (maybe half an inch), my thighs have both gotten a whole inch slimmer. So the weight is moving around. I was always told to eat for weight loss and run for fitness!

I am starting week 4 today. I wouldn't worry about the weight right now. I have lost absolutely no weight in the past 4 weeks, but I can see that I am losing inches. My weight usually fluctuated quite a bit too, but it has been staying at the same number the entire time. No ups or downs at all.

And remember, fitness isn't "only" about the scale. The running is good for you, and the weight will eventually drop as you build muscle. Just think, you can burn more calories just sitting around as you get more muscle....how cool is that? LOL

I started running in May, and have only recently seen any change in the scales. I'm down around 4kg. What I will say is that I've seen change in my size. I had a pair of jeans that I couldn't get up to the top of my legs, and I'm now wearing them with a half inch space in the legs at thigh level. I'm told that muscle is heavier than fat so as you put on muscle, your weight doesn't change or may go up a little.
