Cycling on Rest Days?

I've just started Week 5 and having read some great advice about slowing down I am starting to enjoy running and can't believe I can now run 5 minutes fairly easily. However, I've also been cycling for 45 minutes on the rest days, and think this may be harming my running. I feel like my legs are aching before I set off, wheras today after a full rest day on Sunday I was fine. Can anyone advise me on whether I should continue to cycle or do the rest days need to be exactly that?

Rest only means rest from running, not complete bed rest! Other activities are fine - it's called cross-training. It's a good idea to have a day of complete rest once a week, though

Cycling makes excellent cross-training for runners, because it works your quads, which running doesn't do much for. If you only run, you can develop a muscle imbalance with weak quads and strong hamstrings, and since your quads stabilise your knees, the result can be knee problems. So cycling helps protect the runner from injury.

I injured my foot in mid september and wasn't able to run for about 6-7 weeks. I did do some cycling and I"m going to try to continue cycling and incorporate some yoga into my weekly routine (swapping out a day or two of running) to be sure that I do some cross training....trying to stay injury free.
