How to train when you are NOT training for a race???

Hey gang...

I am curious... for those of you who run just for the love of running, how do you generally structure your training for the week?

Let's say it would be based on a 20-mile week..

Basically, I am looking for a reasonable way to spread out the mileage when I am NOT getting ready for a race...

Thanks in advance!
Dan

if you are not training for anything than you just run at will. There are way to many variables for this to be a pinpoint answer.
What I typically reccommend (assuming you are not a newbie) is assign one day as a pace run, one day for speed repeats or intervals and one day as a long run. The other for x-training which may or may not include a short warm up jog.

So if you're looking at 20...5 miles @ tempo; 3 at repeats; 8-10 long run. that leaves 3-5 as either short runs or warm up runs or a 4th day.
