Re: Half marathon trainers week of Nov 10th
Hi all, newbie "lurker" here... I finished C25K a few weeks ago and am still a ways from 5k in 30 minutes. Just wanted to post to Sheila and anyone else who may be thinking of the Indy Mini--I caught a story on the news this morning that they are close to closing registration. My daughter ran it in 2005, and especially liked the lap around the 500 track and the medal she got (it has a race car in the middle that spins around--not sure if that was special because it was the 30th anniversary of the Mini). I would sign up myself if I thought I could be ready by then, but maybe 09.

Good luck to all of you--I aspire to your distances

Re: Half marathon trainers week of Nov 10th
Hi all.
Thanks all for welcoming me to your forum.

In answer to your questions:
Joe - yes there is a gym with a treadmill close by but they have a 20 minute time limit so not to usefull. And soon with everyone having new fitness resolutions it will be even harder to get at them. But I am determined to get out for my run, either that or hang my fat clothes back up in the closet.

Monnik - At my age (57) it will probably take me a little longer to get to the end of the training program, and the program only goes to 10 miles. A half is a little longer. I want to be sure I can do the distance and not collapse in the last mile on race day. So yes, I am trying to build a base and go through the whole training and then keep working after the fact In the hope that I will be fit enough on race day do do the whole run.

Re: Half marathon trainers week of Nov 10th
Joe,I won't add the trail run to the calendar because I live in Burpengary, which is just north of Brisbane Aus, and probably not too many peope on the forum would come along . There is a coolrunning Australia site, but I don't enjoy it as much as this one.

I did a few speedy bits today, alternating walks with fast runs, for around 2 miles. Will probably do a 3 miler again tomorrow, then have a rest day to get ready for Sunday which is my long run day.

Have a good one, everyone.

noob - I still like to see who is racing - I like to send virtual good wishes so you should still put your race in

I`m going to try and get back to daily check ins - did chest. bicepts . tricepts, shoulders and abs today ... not much variation when all you can do is sit down to work out !

Re: Half marathon trainers week of Nov 10th
Hi guys, finally starting to feel normal again after getting a cold. Ran 2 miles on my treadmill tonight. Going to get in 6.5 this weekend after 3 tomorrow or Friday.

Great pics Joe...how's that ankle feeling?

Peg, I am going to do a face lift on our bathroom next month as well. We love doing home renovations and they are so much less expensive when you do them yourself. Luckily my husband is handy and I am crafty.

Chuck, hang in there...it's amazing how things always work out for the best in the end.

Ct - how's the running shoe adventure going?

Alright, I'm off to do laundry! Take care, Alex

Re: Half marathon trainers week of Nov 10th
Hi everyone - 3.75 mile flat run around the neighborhood today - it was in the 90's today where I was working in the Coachella Valley and in the 80's where I live and did my run, which is 40 miles from Palm Springs - it should be cooler than that by this time of year even in Southern California. I'm so tired of the heat.

Re: Half marathon trainers week of Nov 10th
good evening boomers,

Tonight was cross training night in the gym. Low 40's upper 30's tonight with wind gusts to 35mph. Did 5k on the TM in 28:03 and rode the bike for about 15 minutes and lifted weights.

Alex, glad you are feeling better, it seems as if everyone is sick and they are feeling poor for quite a long time.

Kathywing, must be nice to run in the 80's and 90's as it s only a memory for me in Wisconsin.

Joe, yes I love the garmin. It is so accurate and really helps me pace.

Monnik don't rush back too quick. I read more posts in these forums with listings talking about reoccurring injuries.

Misswendy, nice adventurous run.

Simon good quote with regards to running, you gotta earn it, no shortcuts. I'll remember that.

Take care and keep pushing!!!!

Re: Half marathon trainers week of Nov 10th
80 even if it's humid sounds more pleasant than light rain, high winds, clouds and temps in the 40's. In other words, I went to the gym tonight.

Welcome, slavetodogs. Since you and I probably share the same birth year, I would agree that a couple of extra weeks helped me get ready to run the 13.1 distance. I used a 16 week schedule.

Stan, my question regarding how to plan out my runs was in reference to a training schedule. With out a goal in site, I am not real sure what I should be doing each week. My goal is to maintain my running fitness, possible work on speed, and incorporate some upper body weights. Then after Christmas to pick out a half marathon in the spring and hopefully be race ready in about 12 weeks instead of 16 it has taken me in the past. I am hoping that I can accomplish this with 20 miles running each week. I want to continue to do a longish run outside on the weekends as long as the weather permits. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Hi everyone, it was raining here today so I did 3 miles on the DM and biked for 10 min.

Joe-great pics

macd--thanks for the info--I'm going to sign up tonight. I have a couple of ladies that will go with me and do the 5k.

Gotta go and get registered. I'll add it to the calender tomorrow.

Re: Half marathon trainers week of Nov 10th
Hey Guys!

Yep - cold front is supposed to come through Houston tonight too - although "cold" is a relative term around here! Today was a rest day for me - will take one more day off to get back on schedule & due to the fact that I'm needing to ice the knee again tonight!

Anybody familiar with John Mayer? The songs "In Repair" and "Gravity" seem to be appropriate for some of us in the group right now!

Joe - thanks for sharing the pics - looked like you were having fun!

Peg - glad to hear from you - was hoping you would keep us up to date on life - looking forward to seeing your pics too! Don't count out the Houston HM for yourself - I think you can do it! Don't give up hope, girl! (Thanks very much for the kind thought, tho'! You're sweet). Go Peg!

OK - back at you guys later!

Re: Half marathon trainers week of Nov 10th
Well, still looking for a J.O.B. Chuck has me moving to Florida. Shhhh, I won't tell right? hahaha. I have an interview tomorrow for a legal secretary. Not sure about it since I am used to being a paralegal. We shall see. I meet with another agency as well tomorrow. Not having a lot of luck with the agencies though.

Laurel - You are too kind as well. My shins are still giving me problems though and the most I have ran to date is 6.5. Not sure if in two months I can make it to 13 without further injury. I will have to make a decision soon and when I do if I give it up, it is yours. Not sure how much I paid. Got the bib early though and I will not charge you more than I paid. I promise. lolol.

Chuck - I hope you are doing well. I think about you often. My neighbors are going through the same thing. I live on Wisteria Lane, kidding. Just lots of drama on this block. Thanks for the Florida invite. : )

Alex - we had a great time doing the bathroom. I love doing this stuff. Plus saves lots of money. All that is left is the quarter round. And I am sure the little stuff that we will find along the way.

Well, I will let you guys know how tomorrow goes. Talk to you soon.

Keep running.
