Hey 20's it looks like most of us have been super busy lately! I've been working out, just not posting much. This afternoon I'm planning on 3 miles and on Sunday DH and I are planning on a 59 mile organized ride, should be fun, but there's a 60% chance of thunderstorms, so we'll see...

Jen-- congrats on finding out it a boy! and on the successful move!

everyone else- have a great weekend! anyone got any fun plans?

Good timing - I just logged on not long ago.

I'm grumpy this morning because I was bidding on a great bike on Ebay and I lost it this a.m. at the last minute. I think it was a store that beat me, because they have a huge number of buys/sells, and I know I couldn't have afforded to go any higher ... but still. Grr.

BTW, it was a Litespeed Ultimate with Ultegra components and 500 miles on it, in my size - lady who owned it got pregnant. That's a $3000 or so bike and it went for $915 - just over what I was willing to shell out. I hadn't really been in the market to get a bike immediately (although I want and need one), but it was so nice and I got excited, so now I'm totally bummed. I hate the bike I have and therefore never ride it...

Anyway, I digress. I get off work at 4 today, so I'm going to go for a run before it gets dark. I think I need to get new shoes soon, because my feet have been hurting a bit and they never did before. It's annoying, because my shoes only have about 200 miles on them - does anyone have experience with running on trails with normal running shoes? I put about the first 100 miles on trails only, and I'm wondering if they died faster because of that. If so, I'll pick up two pair when I get new shoes.

Other plans for the weekend: Watch the Steelers whup the Jets (nostalgia: the first football game I watched with any comprehension of what was going on was Steelers def. Jets in the playoffs 3 seasons ago

Also, go on a shopping extravaganza. Take a look at my menu for Thanksgiving:

Tofurky
Mashed Potatoes
Stuffing
Gravy
Green Beans
Braised Pearl Onions
Cranberry Sauce
Pumpkin Pie
Apple/Cranberry Pie

I'm probably forgetting something. But seriously ... this is for TWO PEOPLE. I think I need to be committed, either that or convince some of my friends to move in-state

Heather: Have fun on your ride! I can imagine t-storms aren't the best to ride in, so good vibes your way...

Jen: Eventually I looked back and saw all your news - congrats on everything! You'd better get a testosterone shield

Confetti: Judging by this post, I aim to please Sorry Notre Dame wasn't everything you hoped for ... how do you feel about Jimmy Johnson? The Chase this season might as well have been called Johnson v. Gordon...

hello to all others...

Hi 20s!

Not much to report, MAT and PT are going well and I hope to run a bit by the end of next week. It's tough because I feel fine since I'm not doing much, but I'm also trying to be cautious. I just want to be back to normal!

jrpol Congratulations!! But I agree, you're going to need some relief from all the boys in the house.

Weekend plans - I have PT, the gym, and a trip to the DMV planned for tomorrow morning - don't be jealous! We're going for dinner and to see the UFC in NJ with Fight Club's cousin and his gf tomorrow night. Then Sunday we'll probably go to the gym for a bit, work on some of my Thanksgiving baking, and head to Fight Club's parents' to celebrate a couple birthdays. Then it's 2 days of work and 5 days off!!

Hey all! Not much to report here. I was supposed to go out for drinks with a friend last night, but she caught the cold that, it seems, everyone in the entire city of New York has right now, so she canceled. Instead, I headed down to Restoration Hardware and bought a bunch of frames for hanging record album covers. When my roommate and I moved in together, she had some nice framed prints, so we hung them on the wall and pretty much called it a day as far as wall art went. She took them with her when she left, so it's been expanses of blank white walls ever since she left. So I spent the night last night framing and hanging some old rock albums that I have (INXS Kick, U2 War, Rush 2112, The Cult Electric, Bruce Springsteen Born in the USA, Pink Floyd Dark Side of the Moon, U2 Under a Blood Red Sky, etc.). They look so completely awesome on my living room wall, and it's such a "me" way of decorating. Totally love it.

And that's pretty much it. I've got about a million loose ends to tie up here at the office today, so I really need to get focused on that and will probably need to do a bit of work this weekend. Blah! No other real weekend plans. I'm sure something will come up, but nothing set in stone as of right now! .

Eck!!! Although admittedly, I don't mind JJ so much -- I just cannot stand Chad Knaus. He strikes me as exceptionally arrogant in a really sniveling kind of way. Like, the kind of guy who everybody hated in high school because he always thought he was smarter than everyone else even though he really wasn't, so now that he's rich and famous and successful, he's got this enormous "I told you I was better than you" chip on his shoulder. I really can't stand the guy. And he looks like a turtle. Blech!!!

I don't have a probably with Jeff Gordon either. He's smart and articulate and probably the greatest driver of all time. But he was my ex's favorite driver, and my ex was such an arse about him that I just have negative thoughts now any time I see Jeff Gordon. (Ex was one of those guys who couldn't simply root for his own teams -- he had to actively root against your team in a really obnoxious kind of way.)

So yeah. My hopes for this weekend are as follows:

1. The entire Hendrick team (excluding Shrub and including Junior) suffers terminal engine failure on Lap 1.

2. Martin Truex Jr. or Shrub wins the race. (I'm not sure why the silly season team changes got so far under my skin this year, but I'm really bothered by Junior's switch to Hendrick -- I just totally don't see him fitting in with all those California boys. I love Shrub in the role of NASCAR heel. And I think Martin Truex Jr. has emerged very nicely as the new face of DEI.)

3. Clint Bowyer comes home with the Championship. (I think that's still mathematically possible?). That would be awesome!

Hi all, I've been really bad about posting here lately. I took a spin class on Wednesday night and my butt is still sore! I think I need to get some of those shorts with the padding since I'm going to continue going to the classes.

Last night I went for a 5 mile run. It was one of my first cold runs, since it's just now getting cold here. I think I prefer running in cold weather. It sure beats running in 100 degree weather with awful humidity! I'm feeling it today though, I think I might have strained my right calf muscle.

This weekend we're going to my grandfather's house for Thanksgiving with that side of the family. My contribution is buttermilk pie which I'll be baking tonight. Sunday I have a 7 mile run. My husband said that he'll ride his bike while I run to keep me company, but who knows if he'll actually do it. That will be my longest run to date, so I'm pretty excited about it!

mh1982 - Sorry about losing the bike, that sucks! Your Thanksgiving menu looks good! I'm assuming you're a vegetarian? I was one for a year just to see if I could do it. Just started eating meat again back in September.

Yeah... I think if Johnson & Gordon both decide to get drunk and are too hung over to drive, Bowyer can win

I like him, though - at least he won one race this season

BTW, I like the framed records idea. My BF has lots of vinyl but it's all stacked on our bookshelf. I think my two favourite things that we have on our walls are a) vintage travel posters that I got in Morocco - nice 20's style, post Toulouse-Lautrec poster art; and b) 5 skateboard decks. My BF was a sponsored skater when he was a kid, so he has several gorgeous boards.

Where is everybody? It's Friday ... I guess everyone is playing hookey instead of sitting at work doing nothing like me

The skateboard thing is awesome. I love the idea of having something that's actually meaningful somehow. I looked around for a long time for framed art that I liked enough to hang on my wall, and I may still hang my two favorite paintings -- Van Gogh's Bedroom:

and Hokusai's The Great Wave Off Kangawa:

But I just couldn't get too excited about art otherwise. Maybe if I found a great photo of the Brooklyn Bridge or the elevated trains in Queens or something actually meaningful, but I don't know ... So yeah, the album covers are perfect for me, and I found this beautiful, colorful tile mirror, so I'm going to ask my parents to pick that up for me for Christmas, I think, and then I'll be pretty much all set!

If you're interested though, Restoration Hardware sells album frames for $13. They're just perfect black metal things. And at least when I went last night, you could fill out a little Friends & Family card and get 20% off your purchase. So word to the wise there!

Brandy-

My BF & I do eat fish, but Thanksgiving fish would just be odd, unless I lived in Mauritius or something

I would be content just with all the carbs, but my BF likes Tofurky, and it's growing on me every holiday season.

I'm intrigued by this buttermilk pie - I have heard of lemon buttermilk pie but that's it - tell me more!

hey all,
so who thought that I'd be in here ***two*** days in a row!

I just need to build up some momentum.

In any case, I didn't get a chance to head to the gym yesterday or today but am thinking of bagging out of work a bit early today.

I worked till close to 2am last night and am heading down to Queens tonight to visit a friend (confetti, you still there in good ol' Astoria?) and wouldn't mind a nap before I drive down so that I can do my best impersonation of the NASCAR drivers.

In other news, I finalized the details for a date today. And so it looks like I've got on going on Monday night. Another gal that I met off the 'net. So far she seems very normal. I guess we'll see!

jr - crazy stuff that your boy is 2 years old. I remember the pics that you had of him from a year ago. He was a tall guy at 1. I can only imagine that he's now surpassed me in height.

Woo-woo!!! I am, indeed, still in Astoria. To be honest, I really think you'd have to pay me to leave there. I'm at the point where I wouldn't live in Manhattan even if I could afford it, and I'd consider maybe moving to Sunnyside because it's got a lot of the same general vibe as Astoria, but I don't know. I think I may be Astoria or bust for the rest of my years in NYC! (Wouldn't mind moving into one of the new buildings they've built here, though. I don't know when you were last to Astoria, but there are three brand new apartment buildings on my block, and another two others right around the corner. I don't think Astoria's going to be a cheap place to live for much longer! Let me know if you end up hanging around in Queens tonight. I'll stop by and grab a drink (if you don't mind my company!).

In other news, good luck on the date, and you'd better be back with a date report next week! And ugh! Looks like you lost your username in the Active transition. That's no good! I was so afraid that me and my 5K+ (I think?) post count were going to disappear, but fortunately I was able to dig up my password and re-sign-in!

Happy Happy Friday!

I'm connected! woo-hoo! I've got a working computer, cable TV and landline again. Granted the guy fromt he cable company was a total idiot, but it's finally done. I was fuming this morning. He showed up over an hour late for the appointment and blamed everyone but himself. Then he left and didn't give us any useful info. I had to call the help line to figure out how to access our e-mail.

Yep, I'm going to be a house full of boys. Even my 2 cats used to be boys. Luckily, if I'm in danger of going crazy I have some of my best friends and my mom and aunt around. I can go have shopping therapy or a pedicure or something girly to ward off the insanity. We're tossing around boys names now.

bal: Have fun on your date! I'm not sure how tall my little man is now, but he's getting big. He's probably about 3ft tall now. We need to find a new doctor in the next couple weeks for his check up.

maggie: Sorry about your bike. I haven't been able to try tofurky. I like the real thing too much, but I understand about having too much food. there's only going to be 5 adults and my son and we're having a turkey, a ham (I don't think we need it, but my mom insists..) plus all the fixings. We'll be eating leftovers FOREVER.....

Confetti: I love the record idea. I bet it looks great. With your album covers, new tv and new furniture I bet you have a pretty cool living room. I've been looking for stuff for my walls in my new place. I can't paint here, so all the black and white photos I had (in white frames no less) look really boring on our plain white walls.

OK, I'm rambling and I need to go and get some stuff done before DS wakes up.

Busy thread today! I went out for just under 3 miles last night, had a pretty good run, when I really paid attention to my breathing my pace increased noticably and I was less out of breathe even at the faster pace. It felt good.

heather Fingers crossed that the rain holds out for you.

maggie Menu looks good. I was vegetarian for years (parents raised us that way) and we always had turkey at Thanksgiving because other family members ate it and I certainly never missed it with all the other good food available. Even now I still skip it often, just not a big fan I guess.

elfitzpa I keep putting off a trip to the DMV I was supposed to trade my Jersey plates in for NY ones over a year ago and I just haven't wanted to...Now that I'm going to be starting a state job though they're making me become a NY state resident. Hate wasting time at the DMV.

confettigirl I have those record frames too! I opted for the silver ones though. I bought some of the black ones for my mom too and she loves them. I just moved to a new house (okay 3 months ago) and none of my decorations from the old place look right now, I just can't figure out what to put on my walls.

brandyshea I was intimidated by the idea of running in the cold at first, but now I'm enjoying it too. You can only take off so many articles of clothing, its easier to put more layers on. My tune might change when the temp starts dipping to the single digits though...

balufudus1 Good luck on your date! I sorta met my current bf online, going on 3 years together now.

Happy Weekend everyone!

Good to see so many people posting again. I didn't get a chance to run yesterday while I was traveling but I did 6 miles this morning. I'll probably do 10 tomorrow. Nothing else exciting to report.

mh1982 - I don't have the exact recipe, but the ingredients are buttermilk (obviously), eggs, flour, sugar and vanilla. Pretty basic. It's kind of custardy I guess is the way to describe it. Sometimes I put coconut in it and that kind of keeps it from being so gooey. It's good either way though.

I have yet to meet anyone outside of my family that knows what buttermilk pie is. I thought it was a southern thing, but like I said, no one else has heard of it.

Hey all,

I'm a newbie in the utmost sense. I'm just starting out on the couch to 5K plan. I did day one on Wed morning, and am doing it again tonight. I planned on it this morning, but my wonderful girlfriend decided to talk in her sleep last night and made sleeping a bit difficult...

I'm 25 years old, 6', and about 205lbs. I used to be a bike a lot in college. I preferred Mtn Biking, but here in the flat area of Wisconsin, there isn't much mountain to bike on, so it was hard to stay entertained.

The first run wasn't too bad. I have shin splints issues and an old ankle sprain that I want to take it easy on, so I'll probably do week one twice just to make sure my legs are ready for the strain. My biggest hurdle is getting out of bed and getting down to the treadmill. I'm doing the treadmill thing because cold air and my lungs don't get along. Maybe I'll get more adventurous once I progress a bit more.

This place seems like a really positive type place to hang out with some good people. Nice to meet you all!
