Alot of people ask why I started running. But I think a better question is why do you keep running. I guess for me running provides an outlet for me to release the problems and stress I face form day to day. After a run I feel much better equiped to deal with life. Of course the 40 pound I have lost over the last 16 months through running and proper nutrition motivate me as well but the mental benefits are what keeps me going. What keeps you running?

I would have to say I run for my Mental well-being as well. The solitude allows me to reflect on my thoughts, and I also love the feeling of accomplishment, coming from a 2 pack a day smoker to running 2.5 miles with relative ease is really nice.
I still run because people still keep chasing me.

I keep running because I remember how hard it was to get to where I am.
I don't ever want to start all over.
That's what keeps me going too! Those first few weeks were he!!
I wouldn't say it's why I keep running but I L-O-V-E the "you're crazy" looks and comments I receive when mentioning a 20 mile run (or for that matter a 5 miler) to non-runners.
Other than that, running improves my mood, makes me feel "strong", saves me from hours of terrible TV, allows me to eat what I like, so on and so forth...
Oh, and I run because I enjoy it
Because I love imagining my family cheering me on at the finish line.
Because it took me 9 months to lose 40 lbs and I don't want them back.
Because my 2 year old, who loves to run and play, shouts "Run Mommy, run!" when she wants me to join her.
I keep running because:
Alot of people tell me they hate running and can't imagine running as much as I do.
I like to eat chocolate and drink beer in moderation.
I like to challenge myself physically and mentally.
I like the social aspects of races and the friends I've made at them. (I don't need any more t-shirts!)
I had to laugh outloud at squeaky's response... because that's one of my reasons too. But other than that... I run because it's one of the few forms of exercise I do enjoy and I know that I need to get my buns off the couch and exercise in order to increase my chances of having a long, quality-filled life.
Aside from that, because putting my body to a purpose besides looking pretty makes me feel better about it (and thus, about the french fries I eat). My body's not perfect, there's plenty of bounce, and I look terrible in miniskirts, but I can run five miles, and that's really the point.
