Sickness in midst of training

Maybe this is a stupid question but I'm really getting nervous and wanted someone to be honest with me.

In two weeks I run my 1st half-marathon (dec 2) but this past week I was out of the country and sick so was not able to run at all.

Am I going to pay for this? My time goal was 2:00:00 but I'm so nervous for taking the time off to get better. Can I jump back into my training schedule?

Thanks so much!
Melissa

It's gonna depend on where your training was before you got sick. If you have been doing a bare minimum amount of training, the week off is gonna take a biggish chunk out of your race. If you've been logging some really good quality miles, it'll still take a chunk out of your race, but probably not much.

If you're fully recovered, either take the week you missed as a mulligan and move on to the next week or try to pick up where you left off.

How long have your long runs been and what kind of weekly mielage have you been running?

Edited to add: are you really in Hong Kong? I've been there a few times, but before I was a runner. It's a really amazing place and would consider it to be one of my dream runs to rack up an 8-10 mile run through the streets of Honk Kong. Heck, I probably wouldn't even get too freaked out when I got lost after running 800 yards.

Sick how? Puking? Or a cold?

If it was more like a cold, for me, I'd jump back in. Puking--I'd modify my end of training, as my whole body would be more fatigued.

Regardless, you'll go out and do your best on race day! Enjoy!!!

I wish I had some advice to offer but i'm looking for the same advice. Got a stomach flu in the beginning of the week, knocked me out for four days (that includes 1 day of feeling good because i wasn't going to run before that) and then i couldn't get motivated and still am not motivated!!

Maybe we need to try to get out and run 1 mile. If we can run just 1 mile it might help us want to run more miles!!
