I was reading an article about school lunches and was appalded at what the kids choices are for lunch if they buy at schools. With that said I was looking at a local website and this guy has some great tips.

1. FILL UP on the most nutritious foods first (fresh fruits and vegetables), then eat other foods.

2. Add at least 10 fresh, whole fruits and 10 different, fresh vegetables to your daily food plan. That?s 5 cups. A trip to the salad bar could do that.

3. Eat only whole fruit in the morning (up to 10 whole fruits). If you have diabetes or specific health issues, consult your doctor. Stop eating fruit one hour before lunch. Don?t eat fruit with other foods (it makes other foods ferment or rot causing gas and interference to digestion).

4. Eat until you are ?satisfied" in your brain, not ?stuffed" in your stomach.

5. For lunch, almost ALWAYS eat one large, green-leafy, vegetable salad with at least 10 different fresh vegetables (count them). If you are still hungry, then eat something else.

6. For dinner, almost ALWAYS fill up on a vegetable salad and vegetables first (such as steamed or baked). Then eat other foods.

7. Before you put something into your mouth, think to yourself, ?Is this food FEEDING me or DEPLETING me?" *my favorite!

8. Clean out your cupboards. Do not bring the ?bad guys" into your house. Keep ?good-for-you" snacks with you at all times (at home, at work, in the car).

9. Communicate with your family about your food and fitness goals and sincerely ask for their support and understanding.

10. Seek a support person / team mate who will hold you ACCOUNTABLE to your commitment to yourself, your body, and your health

BE PATIENT AND KIND TO YOURSELF? IT TAKES A LOT OF TIME TO SHED OLD HABITS AND BUILD NEW, LIFE-ENHANCING HABITS

Just thought i would pass this along!

Sarah - Love the food tips. I am doing great with exercise but only so-so with eating. Up at least 4 lbs from my lifetime + 2 lbs on weight watchers, which is a lot when you are only 5' tall (4'11" really but don't tell anyone). I did hardcore yoga yesterday in shorts in front of the mirror and was proud of how firm my legs look - my belly could stand a little work.

Did not run yesterday but did serious yoga. I am off schedule but I honestly felt too sore and decided I was not wimping out. Had an hour MASSAGE today - awesome!!!

My goal: Don't get injured. Run until I am at least 70! Don't worry about speed. That's only 20 more years to go!!! You young'uns will see what I mean as you get to the other side of 40....YOu'll have the advantage of running a lot in your youth...

Getting psyched to run 3 miles tomorrow at 6am in 30 degrees!!!

I swear...whenever I publicly put a plan in place for the week...it goes awry. I had every intention of doing 3.5 miles tonight when I got home because Jason was going to be home later but then he called to tell me he was going to be done earlier and he would probably beat me home. So when I got home I started supper right away and now it's 7:30 and I could quite honestly go to bed. I am wiped out! So no run for me tonight and no run tomorrow either. Wed. morning I think I'll try and do 5 since I'll have some extra time and should have the energy to do so. I think as long as I get 15 in this week I'll be happy and I could do that with my 4 mile runs on Thur. and Sat. Ok...I'm going to snuggle with my honey. Night!!

Lisa- At 5'9" ( 5'8 1/2" technically) I can carry 4 lbs and no one notices but me. Same with losing 4 lbs. I imagine on a 4'11" frame its a little different. I like your goals. Running until 70 sounds great. My FIL didn't even start running until he retired at 50 something. He is now 73 and thanks to 2 knee surgeries, he cannot run, but he hikes and bicycles regularly. I hope I am as healthy as him at 73!....I hope my husband has the same genes as his father...

Melanie-Did you have nice cuddles?

Oh Michele...good move. Take it from me...better safe than sorry...

I just returned from the gym. I did 3miles ( 4.8km) just like Hal told me to do! He also says I should run tomorrow, but I don't know if that will happen. Thursday is another 3 miles.

Cooking my eggs now...

Good Evening from India!

Signed up for the Standard Chartered Marathon, thats taking place here on Jan 20. Its going to be a 6k-Dream run. I hope my registration gets accepted this time around though.. last time it had been rejected because of oversubscription etc..

Had a nice run in the morning today though. It was kind of effortless, which for me is saying something! Its

BTW, I have one question: Everytime I do Pilates (and I've begun to do it quite a bit since if I miss out on running any day, I prefer to at least focus on that area where I want to achieve visible effects ), almost daily, I get a headache atleast for half an hour subsequent to it. Anybody else experienced anything like this? is it related to Pilates? or could be because of anything else??

Cheers,
Pradnya

My husband just sent me this link....its every little girl's dream. If this hotel were in the city we are, I would consider booking it for #1's birthday....

Good Morning!!

Oh what an adventure on this mild Michigan morning. We were barely out of the driveway and Brinkley is rolling on the ground as he tripped himself up - so excited to be out for a run.

Into mile two a large truck went by which startled Brinkley for some reason, making him jump right into my path. Well, then it was like slow motion as I watched the ground come up to meet me and the words came out Oooh fuuudge! . . . Only I didn't say "Fudge." I said THE word, the big one, the queen-mother of dirty words, the "F-dash-dash-dash" word!

Luckily I had on my gloves yet, and thermal pants so no damage was done - other than to my pride. 5 miles - 9:30 pace. 300 crunches and 50 pushups.

Sarah that was a good post yesterday about how to eat. Way too many vegetables for me though - I am So bad!!

Oh Lisa you cracked me up with your speed comment. Only 20 more years to 70 too . . . . I'm in the same boat as you, but I would like a little more speed. Still would like to beat or stay even with that 20 something neighbor of mine!

Melanie Your evening sounds wonderful. I know what you mean about putting it down in writing - something messes it up somehow, someway. You'll get in 15 this week I'm sure!

Good choice Monnier. I'm sure HHBF could handle himself with the stranger - but not a good idea for you to be out there by yourself. At least you still got a work out in!!

Michele is listening to Hal - good job on the 3!! His plan is pretty flexible, just be sure to get the miles in.

Pradnya I wonder if your headaches are neck-stress related. Are you letting your abs do all the work rather than straining your neck to help them out? That would be my guess, as it has happened to me.

Michele That is quite a hotel . . . but whatever happened to birthday parties at McDonald's. I think we tend to over-indulge our little ones (those that can afford it anyway - and some that can't) and then they grow up expecting these luxuries. I'm not talking about YOU, just talking in general!!

Okay - better get some work done. Boss' are back today.

Happy 2s-Day!!

~Mary

Morning all ~~ Did my workout with Rontell this morning. I'm a happy Mamma!!!! My DD joined the gym. She and I took a cardio kickboxing class last night. Poor thing was hurting but hung in there and said she is going back. I'm very happy. She is only 24 (soon to be 25) and honestly is really out of shape. Not heavy (lucky her) but not in shape either. So, I told her that as one of her Christmas presents I would pay the 2 yr contract and then after that she would have to pick it up. It was 99 down and 20 bucks a month - not bad I think. Anyway, I'll call her later to see how she's feeling. I am probably going to use the TM for a run later so maybe I'll get her to go walk so that her muscles don't get tight.

Mary Sorry you took a tumble this morning. It's a good thing that only your pride was hurt.

ok, I have to do some work but will be back later to catch up on personals with this crazy gabby group!!!!!

Good morning ladies and lurking gentlemen!

This morning was an hour and a half of cardio for a grand total of 700 calories according to my heart rate monitor. I burned an additional 200 based on the fact that my boss and I are going to a neighboring businesses for lunch. The owner is Italian and has been making his special sauce for 2 days and it will be served over his special eggplant parmesan. My plan is to eat some yogurt before and then have one piece. Tomorrow is my vegetarian day. I have decided that one day per week I will be eating vegetarian, to help me and the environment.

Lisa- like Michelle said? I am also 5'9 and I can lose or gain 10 lbs and no one can tell. I do have a friend who is 4 '10.5 and she can lose 3 lbs. and I can tell! An hour massage? nice!

Melanie- it is ok? just get back on track today. Do not worry about yesterday it is over? today and going forward is what matters!

Monnier- nice ride? I am with you.. I do not go for a run or a walk by myself when it is dark? freaks me out. I had a friend who was attacked in my neighborhood growing up, mind you that was in Texas but still can not bring myself to go outside by myself for a run in the dark.

Michelle- that hotel is a little girls dream come true? I need to find one here in the States

Pradnya- Great job on signing up for the run! You will do great.

Mary- sorry about the tumble! Try starting with 5? that is what I am going to do and then work my way up from there.

Cherrie- you must belong to Bally's ?. Nice workout!

Hi to everyone else. BBL to chat

Hiya!

Yikes to both Mary and Monnier on some less than pleasant runs. Glad you both are ok. (And in my continuing imaginary story about HHBF, it was very romantic that he came out of the woods to come save you! Was he riding Darby? Cuz that would make it perfect...)

Happy birthday to your Daddy, Mary. Hope dinner with your mom was great.

ALL THIS BABY TALK HAS TO STOP! My ovaries are twitching. And my friend with the baby will be in MD at Thanksgiving and I get to play with him again! A friend of mine from work just had twins and I was with them a bit last week..

Lisa you are absolutely right! I like your perspective on running..

Cherrie yay for your DD! Maybe you two will be racing together by springtime!

Michelizda what a cute site! And how fun that you managed to get some face painting in! Are you the oldest of your sisters?

Good workout this morning Sarah

(I can't remember if I told this already but..) Speaking of snuggling, when David and I went on our first date months ago, we ended up talking about cuddling in bed. I don't like being touched in my sleep. We can cuddle for a few minutes, but when I'm ready to pass out, it's time to move. Perhaps it's from being crowded in the womb or something. I dunno. Other cuddling, I don't mind, but just not when I'm sleeping. It's too hot! Anyway, we were talking and he completely agreed.. and I was pleased because most people think it's weird. Fast forward to a bit later and we were in bed, and this fool was all snuggled up on me! I actually said "I thought we agreed!?!?! NO TOUCHING IN BED!"

Has anyone seen commercials for the movie August Rush? I think I'll be bawling halfway through.. And Terrance Howard is my HHBF#3.

Still no gym for me. Lungs are still tight. I walked about 6 miles with a friend just running errands yesterday, so at least I'm moving. And I'm still putting together the holiday quick workouts plan.. should be able to post it tonight..

Happy Tuesday!

hey guys...I'm just popping in quick. I'm super swamped today and trying to get as much work done as I can so I don't have to do much tomorrow morning. No run tonight as I have a ton of things I need to do after work so I'll run tomorrow morning nice and early.
Michele Yikes!!!! Scary creepy forest man. No more dark runs!!!! Just too scary to take a chance on that kind of stuff.
Michelle that hotel is insane!!! I'm with Mary...McDonalds b-day parties! Or just plain at home ones!
Jhi 6 miles of walking rules. Good job!!!! Oh and I get incredibly hot when I'm sleeping too....probably why we're looking for a king size bed. I mean I love him to death but he needs to scoot over!

Geech - Jhi's ovaries are twitching an mine are cramping! ugh. You are so funny though - how's the move gonig? I'm with you on the "don't touch me while I sleep" scene. I hate feeling smothered!!

Getting my hair done tonight. I'd like a new "look" but there is only so much you can do with curly hair. Thinking of bangs - don't know. I figure while the color sets, I'll flip through some books and hope for an epihany.

Aches from the fall are starting to set in - or maybe it is just back pain from Tom.

Anyone watch "Dancing" last night? Marie must go tonight - then Jenny.
