Oh yeah - do it.

If it makes you feel any better, look at the race results for this race last year, or for another 5K, and you'll see you won't finish last.

I'm about where you are and I am looking forward to a 5K. Haven't had a chance to do one yet but I definitely will.

You guys all rule. I have gone from being a nervous wreck about this race with about a 90% chance of backing out to being totally pumped. I'm sure I'll still have a "nervous stomach" (read: be in the bathroom) on race morning, but I really think I can do this now. I look forward to updating on my results!

I should look at it this way: my training run for Thursdays is 3 miles anyway...so it'll just be like any other Thursday except I'll have a couple thousand other people doing my training run with me, lol.

Seriously, thank you all so much!

Hey - you run just about as "fast" as I do. I got whooped by people of all ages in my 3 races so far. The funniest is when the 60+ crew is passing you like youre a stick in the road! I've come to embrace my elder runners - god bless em! I only hope I can be running like that when I'm old and grey. Plus, look at it this way, it gives you something to chuckle about when the race is all done.

But no matter what speed you go, the overall experience is something you are going to remember. Its worth every race just to say that you actually did it.

Hey Pit...I run slower than you and I did a marathon last weekend! Took me 6 hours and 5 minutes and guess what? There were 200 people BEHIND me. A 77 year old man smoked me at mile 20. I was worried they would kick me off the course for not making the cutoffs..but I DID make it and YOU will too!

You are WAY ready for this race. I get nervous too before races, going the bathroom and stuff just like you, but I always have fun and I'm always glad I did it. You are more than ready and you will do great. You won't be last, and even if you are, like someone else posted, you did more than the people who never showed! The feeling you get when you cross that finish line will wipe out any concerns you have about being slow or being last...trust me on that one!

So, we expect a race report when it's done.

I graduated C25K in June and have run 2 5Ks slower than you. I was not last, finished just before a mom with two kids in a jogging stroller, and had terrible feelings of what the heck am I doing here mid-race, but I so proud of myself for doing it! I did say to my DH - I am running faster than all of the 50 y.o. women who are at home today!!!

I also quilt - anything you do at all there will be better and worse people than you. In this age of instant info, we know how everybody does at everything. Don't let other's skills discourage you. I get so discouraged when I see other's incredible quilts, but I love what I do and others admire it.

DO IT! and report back...I got so much encouragement from others on this board, and still do.

I'll be in the Turkey Trot so never fear, you will pass me!
I'll be doing Week 3 Day 2 so I'll be walking half the race at the end!

It was awesome! I finished it in 34:26 - slow, but beat the goal I set for myself. More importantly though, I am officially hooked on running in races.

Thanks everyone for all of your encouragement! Hope everyone else had fun on their trots as well!

Pitrunner, I'm really late to the game here, but I just wanted to say (aside from congrats on running the race!) is that when I first read your post, I thought you were channeling ME! I've been running on and off for many years now, currently trying to build up my speed and endurance yet again.... My longest distance is also 6 miles, and in the interest of not depressing myself further, I've stopped timing myself, with my only goal being to finish my route each time I set out. I've never run any races because I always told myself that the element of competition would ruin it for me. I know I could do a 5K as well, probably in around 30 minutes, but I haven't wanted to risk disappointing myself. Sounds pretty stupid, right? I've really taken this discussion to heart, and I think I'm going to sign up for a race in the spring now... maybe...

Congrats to you again, and thanks also for the inspiration!
