Newbie Here - Ran my First 5k!

Hi there!

I've been lurking for a bit, but had to post today since I ran my first 5k today!! I started the C25K program 9 weeks ago. I am a very slow runner and was ready to be happy if I could just get under 40 minutes. I came in at 34:40!!!

I am so thrilled. I've got the bug, now thinking about training for a 10K!

Mind you, I was NOT a runner before I started. I had tried to run a few times before in my life and HATED it. Don't really love it now while I am doing it, but love how I feel after!

Thanks to everyone for all of your posts, I've learned a lot just lurking.

Congratulations! I've been running since Feb. & am just starting to enjoy my runs while I'm actually running. At the beginning it was very hard but had a great sense of accomplishment afterwards.

You're braver than I am thinking about a 10K. Good for you!

Re: Newbie Here - Ran my First 5k!
KJ,

Congrats on your first 5k! Keep at it and I'm sure you'll find your time will be getting a little better with each 5k you run.

I started back running this year with the primary purpose of getting into some other shape than round! I used to be an avid runner back during high school but I haven't pursued running in 20 years. Now I try to beat my previous time with each 5k I run.

Good luck with the 10k training!

I was just curious, how often did you run before you started the 5k? What was it like from the time you started to the time you ran the race?

Congratulations! Isn't it great? I just ran my second one. My first I ran in Sept in 34 minutes. I was motivated to lower it to under 30 minutes, but am thrilled that I did a Turkey Trot 5K in 32:02. I'll shoot for under 30 min in the next one. Keep running.
