Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers, Week of November 25th
Ran 4 miles in just under 36 minutes about 10:30 last night. Hope to get at least 5 in tomorrow afternoon. It might just creep down into the 70's by then. Still waiting to get some consistent non humid, cooler weather down here in Fla.

Megs: If looking to do the Sarasota 1/2, a great part of Florida but in March you never know what kind of temps you are going to get. If you are not into warm weather, I would suggest somewhere a little cooler.

Chamblin: if you are training for your first 10K, enjoy it. A 1/2 and a marathon might be further into your future plans. I would say get comfortable slowly upping your race mileage. I only seriously considered my 1st half after running a 10K and then a 15K. Keep training and good luck

Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers, Week of November 25th
45 mins on the bike today >> insert little happy dance << I feel like I`m on the road to recovery and I cannot tell you how much mentally better I feel

Now the weather is turning colder and wetter in parts - a lttle treat for those outdoor runners - I picked up a tin of hot chocolate flakes from Williams and Sonoma ( you can get them online too ) .... yummy !!

Good to see everyone is still training hard + the group is growing ... now I can see some real recovery I have a sort of eye on the More Half Marathon in April - it`s for women over 40 - I have to see how long it takes to get my form back.

Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers, Week of November 25th
Hi all, no run again today the weather is nasty and by the time I get home it will be game time. Go Pack! I hate missing two days in a week right now.

misswendy: congrats on the run and it was your best to date, it was an impressive run!

wbertha: this is the big game tonight, you are a true fan when you travel to watch the game! I will end up on the treadmill this weekend as the weather is looking poor.

spicegeek: that was a great workout, glad to hear you are on your way back.

Joe: hopefully you get your run in tonight. What is the easiest place to log where I can use my garmin?

good luck today to all, keep pushing!

Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers, Week of November 25th
GO PACKERS!!! Woo hoo!

My youngest DD goes to an in home daycare where they're all cowboys fans. She wore her Brett Favre jersey today and when we got there, her babysitter was wearing a Tony Romo jersey. Too funny. Vali said "Go Packers!!" without any prompting. I was so proud.

Well, my appointment is with an orthopedic surgeon at an office that specializes in sports injuries. It's Monday afternoon. I did run a bit last night - did a 40 minute run/walk program on my treadmill that simulates some killer hills - up to a 10% incline. YOWZA! The hip feels better today (probably because I made the appointment, ha ha) but it's still twingy. Last night it felt ok, but that's cuz I had taken advil.

We'll see what they say on Monday. I'm hoping for the best.

Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers, Week of November 25th
Hey everyone! How's the day going?

Joe- Thanks for the tip on the gels. I tried the sports beans before my 10K. They tasted just like gatorade, which I didn't mind. I'll have to remember those.

macd- Go Colts! I usually end up watching games with a group of people that hate the Colts simply because I cheer for them. Let me tell you, that New England game hurt me.

Chamblin-Feel free to pick a New England team as long as it's not the Patriots. I think you should be a fan of the Colts. Just a suggestion... Nice to meet another non-morning person. I tried running a couple of times before work and found I was having some of my WORST runs. Too bad most races start so darn early. I'm impressed you're up to 8.5 miles in your long runs. Good for you!

runjr- I can handle being the only person that doesn't like the Packers. I'm okay with that.

Sheila- My run ended up being okay last night. I was running directly into the wind for part of it, but that's okay, I was running and that was enough for me. Good for you for your four miles! I ended up doing 3 last night.]

misswendy-I'm the boss here, so I tend to stay out of trouble on the boring days. Gotta lead by example, right?

monnik- Even though you're a Packers fan, I won't hold it against you. I'm sorry about your hip pain and hope your md visit goes well on Monday!

Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers, Week of November 25th
Hey All,
I've been slacking on posting, and my running has been spotty too. I need to get back into gear. I have been weightlifting more, but it's not a replacement for those long miles to keep my body happy or my mind clear.

I'm going to get a run in this afternoon (hopefully with a coworker). I hope you all are well, and maybe if I get back on the bandwagon of posting, the running will follow?

Hope you're all well, I'll catch up reading.

Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers, Week of November 25th
Gotta post often here to keep up. I wish the game was in Green Bay tonight. It is so windy and cold. No wonder our first 1/2 marathon is in late April.

meg: you are not alone in your dislike of the Packers. For us Packer fans this is the first year in quite a few where we are actually a good team (tonight will tell). As a Colts fan you have had it good for a while. Your team is still one of the favorites.

imogene: glad you are back in gear. Post often.

monnik: great story!!!! lol. We are all happy you are set with your appointment.

Take care will be back tomorrow.

Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers, Week of November 25th
The More Marathon + Half Marathon is a womens only race - you HAVE to be over 40 to race the full Marathon = you can race the half in a team ot 2 but one of the team has to be over 40 - I have tentative plans to run with a friend - we are both 40+ so no problem there !

It is run in central Park - you can register on the New York Road Runners site nyrr.org

Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers, Week of November 25th
spicegeek, the More Marathon looks neat--I love Central Park and like the idea of an all-women event (no offense, guys). I've also been eyeing the Main Coast half (Sept., I think)... can you tell I'm a transplanted easterner?

runjr, thanks for the info on the game. I may have to go to a sports bar--or make a quick trip to Milwaukee where one of my DDs is in school! I don't have a preference for either team, just think it should be a great game. I would have given the Colts a chance of repeating if it weren't for all the injuries.

Sheila, maybe I will sign up for the Indy Mini 5k--I'm thinking registration for that won't fill up as quickly, so I can wait a while to decide... You could run with my DD & her roommate while I run with your friends

I promise it will be warmer here in May. The wind chill was 14 when I got up this morning... needless to say, it was the TM for me.

Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers, Week of November 25th
Spicegeek, so glad you had a good workout. Sounds like you are on the comeback trail!

slavetodogs, wow 3 standard poodles! Beautiful dogs. Ours are all mutts, but of course the most loveable mutts in the world. Boy do I hear you on the tripping over them part! The one that can run a few miles is also the most excitable. I took a spill a few months ago running full out with her to chase a squirrel.

Time to start gearing up for the Cowboy game! Sorry, forgot who they are playing. Something that rhymes with slackers I believe

Oh, upper body and core at the gym today...pushed from last night. Still haven't checked into the "hillyness" of the Cowtown 1/2 yet, but I will.

Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers, Week of November 25th
I'm too young for the More Half, though I guess one of you older girls could take me on as a teammate... any takers?

Ran 6.5 after work today. 8:30min/mile. I'm so bad at going slow when I'm running by myself, and I"m missing my big group run on Saturday to have brunch and introduce the BF to the my sister... eeek.

Slave - I have a lot of calf problems too, I do a of stretching and massage (try to find some arnica oil), good luck with them. Also, if you are a wearer of th high heels (I haven't picked up on your gender, yet) be sure to stretch a lot on heel-days.
