***Mile Loggers*** Week of November 26th

Happy Monday!
This group of mile loggers started the C25K program somewhere in the past few months, and we are staggered anywhere throughout the program. Some are in the last two weeks, and some are brandy ol new. :-)
Please feel free to jump in, be kept accountable and add to the motivational atmosphere. If you don't know how to start, begin by just posting about your run for that day!
Join us!

Here's my wonderful update. (dripping with sarcasm)

I went to the ENT today - I will be having surgery in January (no date set yet) to correct a deviated septum, scrape my sinuses and possibly have "grommets" (permanent tubes) placed in my ears. So - obviously no running for a few days. I bet you all can imagine how wonderfully happy that makes me. If I could I would sneak out in the middle of the night to run but I doubt my fiance would approve.

On the bright side, he said that it's probably why I've always had a scary breathing feeling when I run - because I'm not getting enough air!

Hey, Hey, Hey
I have not been logging lately due to mostly not running much lately. I have backfired on myself and not kept up on my plan to run 4 days a week. I have to get back on track and get going on this. I want to run a 10k this next spring. By planning on doing this, it is the only way I will do it.

Eyedoc.- good to see you still comming along. Keep up the strong will and push on!
Katie- oh katie, my katie, how art thou katie? Don't give up on your desire for running, you will finish strong!!!!!!!!!!
Hello to all and to all, hello

Katie, I'm happy to know that they can do something and they have an actual plan, you'll recover fast I'm sure and be out there passing us all up. Good Luck and keep us posted.

Dobbie...I'm pretty new to this thread, just want to say Hi!

well this morning I skipped my 4 mile walk with the puppy, it was raining and my wife promised that we would go for a walk tonight after work, (unless its raining again, in which case I'll still go alone). Looking forward to doing W6D2 tomorrow. Man I can't believe I'm typing runs that start with the letter/number "W6", I never thought I'd get here. I know I can do day 2, but day 3 scares me a bit. I started weight watchers on sunday, and managed to blow through 22 bonus points in 2 days. Nice.

katie -- you'll be able to run just fine once all your ENT stuff is taken care of, and hopefully you'll be breathing better too, so just look at it as a step in making you a more efficient runner

Katie, sorry to hear about your surgery! Hope you recover quickly, and that it solves your problems!

Dobie, good to hear from you! Good luck getting back into running!

eyedoc, you're doing great--you'll blow right through week 6, just don't psyche yourself out!

I'm definitely not a late-in-the-day runner. I really struggled after work last night, and finally gave up with less than a mile in. This morning I didn't get up early enough to do the long walk I was planning (having stayed up to see if either team managed to win the Monday night football game!), so I decided I'd just run for 10 minutes--and ended up running long enough to finish a mile fairly easily. My "schedule" is somewhat out of whack now; not sure what I'll do tomorrow.

macd...totally understand your feeling about the schedule being out of whack.

So many people on this site talked about good days and bad days. Today was just a bad day. I started W7 today, after completing a 25 minute run on Sunday. I just couldn't push through 8 minutes of running. It felt like my whole body was just exhausted. My heart rate was fine actually reading a little lower than I thought it would be. I am fasting today preparing for a colonoscopy tomorrow but I can't even use that as a reason because on Sunday I ran on an empty stomach. Yesterday I did take a 3 mile walk at 4.0/mph but I didn't think that would affect my body like it did. I am trying to just accept this as a bad day but I know I won't be able to run tomorrow so I am worried about my next day of running which will be on Thursday. I'm just disappointed. Sorry for the whining!

Barb - Sometimes you need a 2 day break. My best runs are always after a 2 day break. Don't worry about it, just try again next time.

Katie - It is a set back but also a solution. At least you won't snore on your wedding night!

Dobie - I know exactly how hard it is to stay motivated. I am struggling too. I have been wondering if I need a serious goal to focus on. Army 10-miler next October?

Tim - I could not get myself out in the rain yesterday either - Brrr!

Macd - a messed up schedule is awful. We are nearing the end of the semester and I am overwhelmed. We will get through this.

Well, week 5 day 1 last night. I did it, just, but I had to stop for 10-15sec in the 5min runs because of leg pain. We'd walked our 2 dogs earlier, and our Chesapeake bay Retriever, Tater, won't jump into my truck, so I have to lift him into the back (he weighs 92lbs.) I pulled a muscle in my thigh and it was cramping a lot when I ran. He can jump 4 ft straight up out of deep water onto a wooden boat dock, so why he can't get in the truck is beyond me.
But I'm pleased to be moving on. As long as it's muscle pain, not joint pain, I'm happy. Also I'm not held back by cardiovascular insufficiency so much any more - must be getting fitter !!

Have a good week, people.

Hey everybody. I had a really good weigh in at weight watchers on Saturday. I was down 6.8 not bad I lost what I gained from the week before TG.
I was so in control on Thanksgiving, it just wasn't worth it to me to pig out, I think the running has me looking at things differently. I feel like I'm working so hard to be healthy why blow it for food that I have eaten so many times before.
I keep thinking summer and the beach. I really want to be at my goal weight by then .I have 6 or 7 more months to get to my goal weight. If I go to the low end that is 25 more pounds. I'm going to do it.Well that's all I have to report for now.

Katie I just hope they help you to feel better. Dont worry you will be running in no time.

eyedoc, I like your determination, don't worry about the 22 points extra thats what the 35 extra points a week are there for. Your doing great keep it up : )

macd, Don't forget 99% of this is mental if you think you can you will.

Barb, Sometimes you need to take a rest. Listen to what your body is telling you. I once took a ten day brake and was able to pick up where I left off. Rest up and good luck with your colonoscopy test.

deadmanwalking, Sounds like your body is getting more fit. Dont you love it. rest that leg maybe some ice. But overall if your breathing is getting better that is a big improvment.
Maybe your dog can jump out of the water more easily because the water seems to help joint pain and makes us lighter so maybe he can move more in the water. I love dogs, I have a german shep. love that big bear.

Maria, I agree--great job on the weight loss, and I'm sure you can make your goal by next summer!

And Barb, I also agree with those who told you not to worry about taking more than 1 day off. Although I don't do it often, I do have better runs when I've gotten 2 or even 3 days of rest. You'll be fine.

DipMom, how about a HM? I have my sights set on a fall one, though right now I'm thinking fall 2009; don't want to rush things... I think DD#2 just signed up for the Indy Mini (HM) in May, which DD#1 ran in 2006. They have a 5K too that I considered, but I think I'd prefer to start with a smaller event (the half has ~35,000 runners). Anyway, good luck with the end of your semester--you'll make it!

Rich - glad to see you back with us. And I loved your menu.

Maria - Congratulations on the 40# weight loss! And I'm impressed that you were down this week. You are definitely making a lifestyle change.

Barb - Congratulations on losing 42#. That is great! And way to go on W6. I think you are now done with intervals. And forget about your bad day - tomorrow is a new day - new start.

lml - Welcome back. I was wondering what happened to you. Sorry the hip is still a problem. Hopefully you can get help.

mamahuss - your turkey trot with 13 people sounds like fun. And your time was great! Congratulations! I'm also looking at the OHR program.

macd - glad to hear you still got your runs in. And a little over 2 miles each is still great, considering none of us could run for 60 seconds a few short weeks ago!

Doc - a lot of people actually gain some weight when they start out since you are often hungry more. And, you only burn about 100 calories per mile, so at our low mileage, we need to be careful. I don't think it matters what route you take - right now we are just building cardio ability. And don't worry about the runs later this week - just concentrate on the one you are on. And look back at how far you have come! Keep going - you can do it.

Katie - sorry to hear you are sick. I hate sinus infections. And hopefully the January surgery will take care of the problem. At least it is still well before your wedding. You'll be back running in no time.

YogaBug - good luck with end of semester stuff. It can be stressful, so if you can sneak in a run occasionally, it may help.

DipMom - glad you had a good holiday and got home safely.

Dobie - glad to see you are still around. Time to get moving again.

My update: In Michigan for the weekend - in fact, we didn't get back until yesterday. No running at all the whole weekend. We were too busy during the day and by the time we got back to mom's at night, there was no way i was going out. But we had a great time (I didn't gain any weight in spite of 3 of mom's pies, chocolate chip cookies, and a lot of food), saw a lot of friends, did a little shopping, and avoided all of the holiday traffic by coming back on Monday.

I did a 30 minute run on the treadmill this morning and was OK for most of it, but then had a muscle spasm in my hip near the end. I kept going, but have been stretching a lot all day today to try and keep it from becoming a problem. I'll be back at the club tomorrow to get back into my weight training and water aerobics.

What do you think about all starting the OHR program in January? I've basically been doing that since finishing C25K, since the first 3 weeks are just to run for 30 minutes 3x /week. I feel like I want to go longer, but am working on keeping my HR at 180 - age. Also don't want to add too much too soon.

katie - sorry to hear you were sick and need surgery. I'm sure you will bounce back quickly and maybe it will help with the breathing.

dobie - slips in the plan are ok as long as you get back with it. A 10k in the spring sounds like motivation to me.

eyedoc - there you go - looking too far ahead. Remember - one day at a time.

macd - your schedule will right itself and you'll get back in the groove

barb - colonoscopy, huh. Hope all goes well and you don't have to do it again for 5 years.

DipMom - staying motivated is a problem. Now that the turkey trot is over, I'm looking for the next challenge. I'm thinking about a Resolution Run on New Years Day - how crazy is that?

deadmanwalking - getting more fit is definitely a plus - and I agree about muscle pain being preferred over joint pain.

NuGirl - great job with the weight - and a positive attitude about Thanksgiving.

jb944 - welcome home. I know it's hard to get a run in while traveling. On Sunday when everyone else was driving home I was able to go out for a run since I didn't have to spend the day in the car.

Good luck to all of you doing WW. I lost about 20 lbs on it 4 years ago. I didn't go to meetings, just followed the program. My husband signed up online and we have modified our eating considerably. I am happy to report that I came out of Thanksgiving weekend the same weight that I went in. Of course, the runs, walks, and raking leaves counteracted my overindulgence.
