Do men and women coach differently?

In your experience, do you see a different between the way men and women coach? How are they different? Do you have a preference?

Re: Do men and women coach differently?

I've coached both men and women at the colligiate level and my answer to your question is yes and no. I like to think of coaching like playing poker, you play the hand you have and strategy can change depending on the cards dealt.

For me it comes down to the individual I am coaching and what buttons need to be pushed to pull out the best performance from the person in question. I guess the answer to your question depends on whether or not the coach is willing to understand what makes that person tick. I'm not sure if a man or woman is more willing to adapt to players and the chemistry combination of the team.
