Hey 1/2ers! I've been lurking around here for a little while and decided I should go ahead and post. You all seem so nice!

I finished the C25k in April and LOVED it! Well, I signed up for the Disney Half that's in January quite a few months ago and was on track doing pretty well in June, and then July hit and I got a stress fracture in my shin...so I was out of commission for a while. I decided to try my hand at it again at the end of September and struggled quite a bit with my lack of fitness level at that point before I got into a car accident and hurt my foot which put me out again! So now it's December and I went for my first "sort of run" yesterday...not looking so good for a Half in January. But I really want to try to do a Half in 2008 and then try to do the Disney in 09. I'm in Arizona, anyone know of any good ones I should aim at that are kind of around here? I'm seriously having to start all over at this point, I can barely run a mile straight right now without hurting myself it seems.

Just wanted to introduce myself and I hope to be catching up to y'all sometime soon! From one mile to 13, bring it on! ...slow and steady wins the race, though.

G'ay exswimmer and welcome!! Friendly bunch in here.

I was offline for a chunk of last week, but yesterday did my very first trail run. It was only 6.6km, but gee it felt a whole lot harder than 6.6km on the road. Undulating trails and hard on the calves, it took a whole lot more focus watching what was underfoot. So much nicer than pounding the pavement. Will have to do it again.

Have a good week, all.

Laurel, I emailed those low back stretches a few minutes ago. Let me know if you don't get them. Hope they help!

Simon, congrats on your son! Brag away

I should've saved yesterday's longer run for today, as it's a balmy 48F this morning. With 1-2" of snow expected for tomorrow morning. I just can't seem to get in sync with the weather lately.

joe, good job on the 11 miles! One glass of wine shows excellent restraint.

misswendy, congrats to your friend!

The jingle bell/santa runs sound like fun.

Good Sunday, all! GO COLTS!!!!

Good morning everyone. Welcome ExSwimmer. Glad to have you.

I ran 3 miles this morning. It was a slow 3 miles but I did it. I will get back to normal one day.

Joe - congrats on the 11. I am impressed.

Noob - I just love trails.

MissWendy - I don't know how to answer, but good question. I haven't ran my first half yet so will need to know that as well.

Macd - I am with you. GO COLTS. GO TEXANS.

Laurel - Hey chica! How are ya? We need to hook up and run. Although, my training is way off and I am slow and my mileage is lacking.

Will check with you guys later. Gotta go get some groceries. Have a great Sunday!!!

Good lord Miss Wendy - the week before you half you should be scoffing carbs like your life depended on it and maybe doing one or two 2 - 3 mile EASY runs to keep loose and maybe a light cross training day - you should be doing nothing the 2 days before. I would rethink that 8 mile run

Joe - I so did not need a reminder that I am so far behind with my Christmas shopping / card etc etc - especially as I have a lot of things to mail back to the UK !

Hi Exswimmer - welcome to the stress fracture club !! - I am mid recovery from a SF in my hip. I hear you about losing fitness - I just got back on the bike after about 8 weeks off + it`s very depressing !! - I`m hoping it comes back quicker than getting it int he first place

Managed a full hour on the bike yesterday .. yeah ! .. 30 mins bike and 30 mins hitting the heavy bag today - **** that felt good ! Looking forward to getting back to my weekly boxing sessions next week - resting tomorrow - My body is so happy to be active again

Snowing here in NY today - I`m a little nervous about slipping on the ice ... that would suck !

Hi all,

Just a couple of pictures my husband took at my 10K yesterday... the first is me and my friend starting out looking nice and fresh (i'm the one in pink), and the second is just before crossing the finish line... rather more tired looking there Hope I posted them correctly!

I have to admit I quite like the 10K distance! And this forum is great as it really was you guys that stopped me from walking at my lowest point yesterday!

Congrats to slave and smiddleton on great 5K races!

Welcome Exswimmer! Hope your training gets better... take it easy getting back and make sure it's injury free this time

Rest day for me today but will go for 3.5 tomorrow
Happy running all!
Cara

hey yall

joescoolagain...that pic is one of my faves because DS took it this summer. he was 2 1/2 at the time. i am so proud of my friend--what ever his time--he is such an inspiration and encouragement to me.

spicegeek (and joe): i am following the weekly mileage recommended here on cool running training chart. did i read it incorrectly? i will always eat way too many carbs, no matter what is happening on the weekend!!! haha take care of yourself on the ice. and way to go on the punching bag!!!!!!

chamblin: you are beautiful! love the race pics. if i can manage a smile i will be doing great. the route you ran was also very scenic.

peg...maybe we can research the i'm-between-races-schedule and see what we come up with...

macd...our weather is crazy! it will be 80 today...

heres something funny....my mother in law is a pastor. she told me she was going to mention my running in her sermon this morning...something about actively pursuing a goal. you must keep at it every day to make progress...dont we know it!!

love to all
have a peaceful holiday season.
take some down time for your self and your family/friends

misswendy - no you read the chart right - I think it`s pretty aggressive tho .. but what would I know !!!! - it`s really you call but I think you would be fresher with something like

5 mon, rest or x train Tues, 3 wed, Thurs + Fri total rest

You have the milage in - this week should be aimed at getting to the start jumping out of your skin with energy not worn out from a mid week 8 miler !

Hi everyone - It sounds like everyone's training is going great.

I was going to hike up to the top of Mount San Antonio (Los Angeles County highpoint) with some friends yesterday but we got about 3/4 up the 4 mile/3900 feet gain and turned around - the trail was icy, it was about 20 degrees, and the wind was blowing like crazy - just too much for me. So, it was about a 6 mile round-trip with 2500 feet gain - still a nice hike. I really felt those heavy winter boots on my feet - not like my nice light running shoes. It sure is nice to finally get some rain/snow here in Southern California

Today I did a 8.2 mile/600 feet gain run - slow as always - it took 1 hour and 50 minutes. Here at my house it's in the 50's and sunny today - just beautiful weather for running - so much nicer than the hot weather we had a short time ago.

ExSwimmer: Welcome. I'm fairly new around here too and everyone has been nice. I'm going to try my first half marthon in February in Sedona.

Chamblin - thanks for sharing your pictures - they're nice.

runjr: I think I will use the ipod when I do my first half.

Speaking of Ipods - has anyone tried any of the training albums like the Nike Treadmill Training that you can use on your Ipod?

wbertha: It sure is cold where you live.

Slavetodogs: "It is incredible that the short runs now are the long runs from not too long ago." - what a great statement - so true as the training goes on.

mara40thon: 9 miles in 1.5 hours is really good - congrats.

Happy Sunday Everyone,
Kathy

hi all, well no chance to run outside today, slushy snow and ice. Went to the gym with my better half. I ran 3.22 on the dreaded treadmill and rode the stationary bike for 20 and lifted a few weights.
It doesn't look good for outside running this week, but I will find a way.

wbertha: has the snow melted yet?

joe: thanks for the reminder of 23 days till Christmas. Your schedule must be easier to keep in your weather.

exswimmer: welcome and post often! You are correct it begins with the 1st mile.

misswendy: will the 13.1 be your longest run? What was your closest to that?

macd: I hate it when the weather doesn't fit our schedules! Good luck getting your running in.

Peg312: the key is you got the 3 miles in that is what matters.

spicegeek: I love the cool weather but the ice makes me uncomfortable, I always think about injuries, that is why I was in the gym today. Be careful!!!!

Cara: great pictures you look like you had a lot of fun. You deserve the rest and great race again!

Kathywing: I wish I had the options you have with the hiking. Great run today.

take care all and keep pushing!

Hi everyone, did a strength training video this morning (45 min long)

Joe-hope your enjoying your rest day, yoga express is a dvd (The Firm) I have about 65 firm videos, thats all I used to do before I started running

exswimmer--welcome to the group, at least your up and running again, your right slow and steady will get you there

noob--I've been thinking about trying a trail run but as clutzy as I am. I'd probably fall and hurt myself

misswendy--sounds like you have a good schedule planned for this week, I have to get my milage back up, but it seems like I run of daylight and time

peg312- great job on your 3 miles

spicegeek--I know how you feel getting active again. I get so depressed when I'm sidelined.
watch that ice--

chamblin--great pics , you look so happy and ready to go, and I think you still look strong at the finish line. great job

kathywing--gosh I bet that was a cold hike up, looks like you got lots of cardio in this weekend.
you got alot of milage in, I feel like such a slacker lately. gotta get on the ball

runj--I feel for you having to do the dreadmill, I hate the thought of snow coming. Still none in the forcast for here yet.

Hope everyones monday goes ok, dd has ballgames all week so don't know when I'll get back on to post.

Keep on running

hey yall

im such a computer geek!

well, it seems yall are all doubting what i shoulddo this week. i did a 12 mile run last week (longest ever) after the same week long schedule, so i feel confident i can do the half after the scheduled week's runs. oh well, we'll see.

thanks for the concern. i do want everyone's input. this schedule has worked so far. but i dont want to mess it up.

(hard to type after 3 glasses...heehehe)
