hey guys, just a quick check in, I ran 5.7 miles tonight at Ashley's new apartment. I helped her move today. This is my old neighborhood where me and my son use to run together. You start out running along the bay and wrap around along the shore then you go up and back on a bike path and then back home. It's a real nice run. I did it in 59:01, all this talk about snow and ice, I waited till 8 pm for it to get below 80. It was 78 and very humid when I ran. Was thankful for the people watering their grass.

Hello Everyone! I ran 7.5M today - quite slowly - it was humid here and in the mid-70s - wasn't it in the 40s this time last week? Seems much easier to run in chilly weather. Wouldn't wish for temps below 40, though! Don't know how you cold weather types make it outside to run like you do - quite admirable!

MACD-I received the stretches & wrote you back - THANK you so much - I'll keep you posted!

PEG - Yes, let's run together sometime - I'm not any too fast myself, believe me. You still need to introduce me to the trails...remember? Good job on the 3M today (I'll bet you're even faster than I am...I remember those strong "runners legs" you have from your race pics. Cut yourself some slack, will ya?

EXSWIMMER - Welcome!

CARA - Adorable pics from your race - looks like it was a nice run & you looked quite happy too! Perhaps we should all arrange a trip to England for a visit sometime.

JOE - Thanks for the encouragement, as always! I thought about your "11M shuffle" comment - my run today was "run-a bit of mid shuffling-burst of energy at the end!"

MISSWENDY - Have a fantastic week as you look toward your BIG DAY on Satruday - YAHOO!

OK - a few funny stories for you guys:
1. Today I snuck outside to leave the house before my 3DDs got out of bed - I thought I had everything I needed (including breakfast, H20, iPod, watch, housekey) - OK, so I had forgotten to bring my socks & shoes outside with me, as I had not put them on already. Kind of essential for a run, don't ya think?!? Needless to say, I snuck back inside, got my footgear and tiptoed back outside! Craziness!

2. My DD#1 (2nd grader) asked me yesterday if we could go to Walmart soon & when I asked "why?" - she replied, "so we can see those low, low prices!" (ah, Saturday morning comercials between cartoons!) Gotta love that marketing!

Good morning everyone!

Yesterday I did my LSD run 75 min or 6.7 miles depending on how I measure it. I had a kind of tempo run the last 15 minutes, although I think I ran the easy part of the run too fast as I had to back off after about 13 minutes.
I'll do a short 20 min run this afternoon, and then a 45 min hills run tomorrow morning.

Joe, good luck with your 4 today!

ExSwimmer, Welcome! Sorry to hear about all your injury problems. I finished C25K in April also! I had some Achilles problems in June that set me back a little. I hired a coach to help me get back. He had me running real easy and slow for 4 and 5 minutes at the start. It worked well! Take it easy and don't try to go to fast or too long. There'll always be another half somewhere for you to run in. If you keep hurting yourself, you'll never get there.

noob, hey great 6.6k run! yeah I'm jealous of trail running. With the snow we got this weekend there won't be much for trails for awhile...

misswendy, good luck on the 5 miles today.

macd, I hear you with the weather. yesterday it was supposed to be 30 degrees and no wind with drizzle. I wore my raincoat and got overheated, turned out to be around 39 with a light wind and snow flurries.

Great work Peg on the 3 miles!

spicegeek, keep up the good work on xtraining.

Cara, congratulations on the 10K, nice pic's too!

Kathy, those hills must 'feel good'

runjr, it was great you got the miles in, even if it's on the TM. I think running outside this week will be OK. I just have to play the wind. And get my layers right! This afternoons wind is only going to be half what it is right now. Temps will be in the middle 20's.

Sheila, great xtraining work!

Chuck, great run! You're right, running through sprinklers definitely feels different than snow flurries

Laurel, gow work on you 7.5 miles. Slow is all I do! Usually around an 11:00/mi pace. Running in the cold isn't all that hard if you're dressed in proper layers. This is my first winter running and I'm still experimenting with the layers. So far so good.

Nice run Kev, and Chuck! I really envy you those temperatures, Chuck: I ran in a covered parking structure yesterday so as not to risk slipping on the ice!

Cara you still look as if you are running well near the end, good form and still smiling. I like the 10k distance, too, you get to run pretty fast.
I am looking forward to running 2 or 3 in the spring and comparing last years time to this year.

Spicegeek it sounds like you are an all-round athlete, I am impressed!

Thanks, MacD!

Welcome exswimmer, I would swim, too, if I lived somewhere as warm as Arizona. New members always welcome here!

MissWendy, take it easy this week and you won't believe how strong and light you will feel on the weekend.

See you all!
Simon.

Cara--great race pics! Thanks for posting them.

Chuck, sounds like a nice route you ran--and SO much warmer than here!

Sheila, my DD & her roomie got 3 other friends to sign up for the Indy Mini, too. Should be fun!

Laurel, hope the stretches help!

Hi to everyone else--everyone have a great week.

hi all, trying to keep up with this forum. Tonight going to try outside, the roads didn't get plowed very good thus there are a lot of icy patches. Going to try for 6 outside but may end up on the treadmill.

Laurel: nice run, great weather, and funny stories. take care.

kevee: you ran outside yesterday? that had to be tough. Way to go!! My routes still look poor right now but I gotta try tonight.

chuck: nice route and run.

joe: called in on Sundays is not good. Good luck tonight with your run.

take care all!

Joe, There's this hill in Mayville, rises maybe 100 feet. There are 6 roads that go up the hill from different directions. All I do is go up one side and down the other. Sometimes going around the bottom of the hill, sometimes turning around and going back up the way I came. I'll turn it around tomorrow morning and run opposite from how I ran last Tuesday. I only spend 30 minutes on the 'hill' I do about 7-8 minutes warm up and another 7-8min cool down runs on relative flats before and after the hill. Tomorrow will only be my second concentrated hill workout. My coach wants my to keep the pace 'real easy'. For the most part I do, but the one side of the hill is REAL STEEP and I'm gasping pretty good by the time I get to the top. It's certainly not like some of the climbs Kathywing has!

runjr, yeah yesterday wasn't one of my better runs. I thought it was going to be colder and so over dressed. I like to feel a little cooler when I run, rather than a little warmer. As long as my fingers are warm, (and the top of my head, I'm bald on top) I'm content. Good luck tonight, winds should be down a little. Do you have thermal-wear? Tights? They really help.

Cara - nice photos - you looked very good at the end !

Misswendy - I don`t doubt for one second you can do the half after the mid week runs you have planned - I just think you might run faster if you taper a little - eitehr way - good luck have a great race - I`ll be sending you virtual cheers

Simon - I`m just trying to stay active while my stress fracture heals - tho I have to admit I LOVE my weekly boxing sessions and I`ve been missing those more than the running I think - it is one **** of a work out and get to your back abs and olique muscles like nothing else - just 20 mins yesterday and I can really feel it !

Was planning a rest day but my plans for this evening fell thro so I no longer need to look like a girl later so I will be hauling some upper body weights around just for the **** of it and manybe work some of that stiffness out from yesterday !

Have a good day everyone !

Hey everyone! I had a lot of catching up to do at work, so I'm just getting to posting. HAd a five mile long run planned for yesterday that turned into 4.5 on the dreadmill. At least I got some running in. I just get SO BORED on that darn thing. Any suggestions? Even checking out the cute guys lifting weights didn't help...

misswendy- Good luck with your half marathon! Having never run one I have no advice. I do have tons of good luck wishes and I can't wait to hear your race report!

Cara-Loved the pics from your 10K! I liked your matching pink outfit! Do you mind me asking what your time was?

Kathy- You ran 8.2 miles?!? Who cares about the time, you actually ran that!! Good for you! I'm not sure about you, but whenever I get down about my time or pace I think "3 months ago I couldn't even run a MILE and now I can run (fill in the blank)"!

macd, Joe, and all the other football fans- How about those games yesterday? I'm not talking about the Lions (why would you do this to me Lions, WHY?!?). And the Colts. Seriously?!? From 28 to 17 to 28 to 25? WHAT?!? And of course the Pats are playing tonight and I'll find something else to do like alphabetizing my DVD collection or watching paint dry 'cause you know how I feel about the Pats...I was at my grandpa's house, without a t.v., so I got all my updates via computer. Any good plays I missed?

Laurel- Love that you left without your shoes. And I liked the Wal-Mart story, too. My goddaughter used to hum that da da da da da..I'm lovin' it song when I'd take her to McDonald's and she was only 3.

runjr- I'm impressed you got the 3 miles or so on the dreadmill. It took my a full hour to do 4.5 miles. Oh how I hated every second of it. I was just nervous about running in the snow... Guess I'll have to suck it up and get used to it, huh?

Have a great Monday everyone!!
