hi all
I had another sucky weigh in yesterday up 2lbs and am back at 150, that is what I get for eating all the ap's I didn't earn last week!
So I set myself a goal....I have 4 more weigh ins before new years eve and I am going to be at 140 whatever it takes, I am not going to allow myself to play with the same lbs again like I did all summer.
So I am joining the POP club

I rode the bike at the gym tonight for 50 mins OMG how boring is that! I entertained myself by watching the runners on the track, very interesting indeed. For surviving the mental boredom of the bike I rewarded myself with a 30 stint in the sauna which felt soooooooooooo good.
I really really cannot wait for this toe to heal, it is taking forever on purpose!

Dan I send you all good vibes, hope they find strength from somewhere.
I really like Long run Nicks advice, personally I am not totally down with the walking thing but I like how he pushes the go slow, build slow, thought process. I think it is all to easy to get caught up in the speed thing, the rush to the marathon distance and forget about just going out there, enjoying it and having fun. I def want to still be a runner in the decades to come

Rogue yes DH is home until next Tuesday then he goes back until May 20th. I am blaming him for at least 2lbs of my gain over the past 2 weeks! It has been tough as he eats total junk and has been wanting to eat at all the places he can't overseas, this is a vacation for him so it is a feeding frenzy and I have slipped some being with him. He has been to the gym a couple of times with me but it is not something he enjoys and I just could not get him to run outside with me which was a disappointment. Apart from that is is good to have him home.

Pluggin you survived the cold!!! I thought of you yesterday! At least from the pics you did not seem to have any snow!
That is a great action shot!

Silly I am glad you are all healed and you came back strong! I hope I don't loose my fitness with this layoff.

Liken I am jealous of your snow! We have no snow cover in the Anchorage area, it is so crazy! the X country ski guys are going postal! I had signed up for a snow shoe trip this Thursday hoping my toe would be good for it, but it is cancelled now cos of no snow
I have to keep my water running as our temps are so low and without the snow cover my pipes are gonna freeze if I don't.

Leany WTG on winning your group! I could only ever do that if I was the only runner in the group!

Megs you get a WTG too you must be happy!

Pinklizard all loses are good Welcome back!

Mel I say the pics you posted you are brave to have climbed so high!

AEK why do they have to wait to start treatment??? That sucks How long can total failure take?

K guys catch you all tomorrow

Good morning everyone,
Over the past 2 weeks I put on 4lbs. I am happy to say just by being POP for 3 days including 2 days of exercise I am down 2 already. I've got to get serious 2008 is my year.

Congrats to all of the losers!

Plugginaway--I commend you & Bodacious for running in those types of temperatures. I definitely could not do it.

Dan--I am keeping your family in my thoughts. Regarding LRN's post, I totally agree. I actually posted in the thread.

Lifentheparks--I start WK5 today too. Good luck!

AEK--It is not a trivial issue if it is something that is important to you. Please do not take offense here but I don't even understand why the friend said something. If you could do something about it you would.

Morning All,

I am heading out for my first "snow" run ever! We had a northeaster come through overnight on Sunday into Monday (no school for the kids yesterday). It was not a big storm only about 5 - 6 inches but it kept changing into freezing rain/sleet then snow. I'm not sure what the bottom road surface will be so I will shorten my run if I am slipping to much outdoors. Oh and its only 14 degrees outside!!

Bo - I will take a picture for you - it is that pretty new snow that looks like a winter wonderland! I am going to run without the iPod for the full affect! (effect?)

Dan - your Mom & Uncle have my prayers as well as you. Every holiday we get and every phone call we get are very special - enjoy them!

Techgirl - you are so kind - I am hardly fast or anyone's hero but I do go out there and give it my all. I have such a good time and the people that I run with range from 5 min milers to 8 min milers so I am "pokey" compared to them. I enjoy myself and that's what counts. They assure me that by next year I will be in the 8's as well - fingers crossed.

Megs - the total relay was 27 miles broken into 5 legs. They were 5.6, 4.75, 2.5, 9.4 and 4.75 (I believe). Not really sure how each runner did for time because they just keep a running time - our total came out to be just over four hours. We could choose if we wanted to be on a competitive team or a fun team. It was a contest between about 30 different running clubs so I chose fun. Out of all the teams I believe there were only 5 or 6 that had a slower finishing time - LOL. These are very good runners!

Leanyjoan - what a great 5K time!! That is so cool that you won your age division! Did you get a prize or a trophy?? I love hardware!! I hope you did - congrats again - that is super!!!

Rogue - the end of a Sr. year season must be hard. DD17 has her first season b-ball game tonight. Each year when they play their last game all the girls are crying and hugging for ever because they know they will never play together as a team. This year I can only imagine how my DD17 will be - she is usually the one that gets all the other girls crying!! The military cleared her knee for service and she is going into the Navy on 7/23.

Silly - 3 miles straight is awesome! It such a good feeling isn't it when you conquer that!

Melanie - I am missing happy too!

Aek - thanks for sharing - I would have times of feeling sad as well. Is there any chance that your thyroid could do a turn around? Is this why they are waiting for it to fail completely? I will send you "cheering up" vibes - hope they help!

Lifein - you can have my winter!! LOL - not a big fan!

Pinklizard - welcome & congrats on the new baby!

So I know I must be crazy because I have signed up for a half marathon that runs by the Atlantic Ocean in February and a 20 miler that starts in Maine then runs through NH and ends in Mass along the ocean at the end of March and these are "training" runs - LOL. I think I may have somehow bumped my head and forgotten about it - LOL. I'll post a picture after my run!

Back in from a very chilly 5 mile run. First time in the snow and I must say I did enjoy it once I got past the 1/2 mile to 3/4 mile point. Here is a shot taken from my front yard facing the road. The tree is a fake one DH put up to make the yard look festive (along with tons of other lights) - at night with the snow on it and the lights on it looks so cool.

AEK - sorry to hear about your hair. I'm not sure why you have to wait so long before taking meds (they put me on them in high school). I too have a thyroid problem and I lose handfuls of hair each day. My hair loss doesn't show much, but I understand how stressful it is to see the hair falling out everywhere. It's much easier said then done to not stress about it. Just take a few minutes, mope a bit, then move on. You'll be a-ok! - Jen

Good morning,

Well I did it, I hit the gym got up at 4:15 and got to the gym. The guy at the desk said welcome back. Okay it had only been 3 days!!!

Since I have decided to take the month of December off from running, I have decided that the bike is to boring for me so back on the TM I went and I have started a new walking program. I did 45 minutes today started at 0 incline at 3.5 then after 10 minutes went to a 5% incline then at 20 minutes went to 3.7 and a 8% incline for the rest of the way. My goal is to hit betweein 3.7-4.0 at an incline of 12-15%!!
Talk about kicking my arse!! I had to use my inhaler! I haven't had to do that since my C25k days!! So it did get my cardio kicked into gear. Have to say it felt good be back on the TM. I had missed it. Crazy I know!

Pluggin-Yes, the senior year has been more emotional than we expected. I am in charge of collecting the seniors jerseys before the banqet this Sunday and they are not wanting to give them up!! Great job I got. "Hi, I know you lost and you are a senior this is your last time with your jersey now hand it over!!" SUCKS! DS18 has been in talks with a Marine recruiter but as of right now I think he has decided against it. I told him there was no hurry, I would rather him just focus on graduating and passing Biology!! There will be plenty of time to figure out what to do after HS. Beautiful snow pic!!

AEK: Don't feel bad for feeling the way you felt last night. We all experience emotions. Some are more important than others to us. Last night your hair was important to you. That would be a very hard thing to go through. Especially, in our society where looks is everything. I hope you and your dr's come up with something soon for your thyroid. THat is a pretty difficult challenge!

Bo: Wow that is hard about DH. At least you know running is for you. That is okay. If he doesn't tag along that is your time for you and the great outdoors. Some alone time if you will! No Snow in AK????? WHat is going on?? that is craziness!! When do they expect it to snow?

Hi Mel, pinklizard, leany and everyone else!!

Have a great day and Happy Running!!

Howdy folks!

I'm back from 4 days in LA. I was totally OP, but I'm hoping the miles I walked in Disney on Saturday and Sunday will balance out the food. We really had a great time and I finished week 4 of C25K yesterday even after 2 10-12 hours running around Disney. There was a beautiful path to run on and I was proud of my self for staying with at least 1 program on vaca.

I haven't weighed in in months, but am planning to attend a meeting again this Saturday and weigh in. I'm not expecting much, but as long as I don't see a gain, I'll be happy.

Sounds like you all have been very busy!

Lifeintheparks & Likenoother - I'm looking forward to seeing how W5D1 goes, I'll be doing D1 tomorrow! Good luck!

pluggingaway - The relay sounds like it was a blast as was the run in the snow. Great pictures. I bet the 1/2 marathons by the ocean will be amazing. Good luck and keep us posted!

Megs - congrats to you!

Dan - I will add you, your mother, and your uncle to my prayers. I hope the holidays will help to make you all feel better.

Silly - congratulations on the 10:42 pace! I am a slow poke, but hope to get there someday.

AEK - I'm so sorry to hear about your thyroid problems and your hair. We all need to vent and allow ourselves to feel a bit sorry for ourselves sometimes. It's just part of being human, don't beat yourself up for it.

Bodacious - I agree that riding a stationary bike is about as boring as it gets. I can imagine how frustrated your hubby's behavior must make you, but try to enjoy your time with him. I'm sure you'll see plenty of snow soon.

Everyone have a great day!!

Hello all just a fast fly by to say hello! All this snow talk, I live in the only part of my state that has no snow. We are avid "snowmobilers" so the winter is filled with lots of traveling any where from 1 to 3 hours away for weekend trips.
lifeintheparks: did you go to the Golds in Cedar? I love spinning it has been a great cross training thing for me.
Bo- sorry about the WI I am dealing with it to back up to 149! I am really trying to get back on the program faithfully with counting points etc. I had been really bad, I did ok until last night 2 friends and our families all go together and made gingerbread houses, uh yeah one for the house one for my mouth I I think was my motto!!!!! good thing I did get in 4 mile run just before.
Have a great day I am at work and just finishing up to go home!

Hey guys, A quick check in and I miss being around more often. It's just one of those weeks where a big work project converged with a chem test tomorrow on material I don't understand well and I am getting ready to host a Christmas party this weekend - I need to clean, decorate, cook, etc. Poor planning on my part, but can't fix that now. Anyway, my point in posting is this:

I was hanging on by a thread today - the stress was getting to me so much I almost sent a very smippy email to my Mom who had the "nerve" to send me emails about Christmas shopping which of course is stressing me more since I am way behind on gifts and have no chance of catching up until at least next week. It's too icy to run outside right now so I brought my gym stuff to go after work, and literally dragged myself there muttering on the train. I SWEAR that within 8 minutes of being on the treadmill, I felt myself smiling. The effect was that amazing. So even though I feel like the gym is a luxury this week, it's not - it's the only thing keeping me sane!

That being said, I have to go to finish studying for tomorrow. I can't wait to catch up on all the posts and will be back in action soon, promise.

Well all, I am surviving my 1 month of no running (3 days down so far). I went to see ortho about my stress fracture and they put me in a post-op removable boot. Better than a cast since I can take it off when I go on our cruise next week! They also took me off crutches! yeah! and i went to my WI tonight and was down 1.0lbs even without running! so all and all i can't complain too much. sounds like everyone has been busy with their runs. I'm definatley jealous...but i'll get back there soon. i am allowed to do a stationary bike, so hopefully that will help me avoid gaining a bunch of weight on the cruise! good luck to everyone!

Dan I think you will really really like the Garmin, I have only really messed with the basics of mine and I love it! I am sure one day I will get a second or two to sit down with the manual and really play with what it can do but until then I am more than happy with with I have set up already
I just love how freeing it is, I can leave my house and just run where the fancy takes me, I don't have to stick to a pre mapped out route or go try figure out how far I went afterwards.

Ha ha Pluggin has my snow! Did you really really like the snow run??? I love it! I would much rather run in the snow than in the yucky heat and humidity! Darn it I need snow and a fixed toe! Your pic looks so peaceful.

Rogue there is some snow in Alaska just not in the Anchorage area, we had some pretty good storms come thru just after Halloween but then it warmed and melted and now it is just too cold to snow We don't have any in the forecast for the next five days and we really need some to lighten things up, we are down to under 6 hours of daylight and it is so stinking dark out there!

Happy are you overstretched or what!!! I stressed just reading your post! That running time is your time buddy and your time is not a luxury so take it and don't fret Running is a big mind clearing time for me and I can imagine you smiling, I will be the same way in a week.
Christmas has become quiter and less stressful for me over the years, this coming one will be my simplest one ever and I am cool with that!
I have not sent out Christmas cards in a zillion years, I even stopped caring if I was disappointing anyone in my life by not giving them my autograph

Cherbear is is easy to eat healthy on a cruise, I went on one in March and put on one lb but that was down to fancy drinks and not food. Take care of that foot, did the doc say why it happens or how to prevent it in future?

I had a pretty much OP day today, I had to dip into the WP as I went to Chili's for lunch and had a soup and house salad. I looked up the soup tonight and it was 10 stinking points! Half my days pts on a bowl of soup! It was good soup but I will not be having it again, with as cold as it is I have the biggest soup fetish going on at the moment so I need to pre search soups at some local places so I don't get shocked again.

Hi to everyone yet to check in, I gotta go sleeps!

Morning All,

Happy so glad you checked back in - hope your chem test goes well. Only two more weeks of psych II classes for me and I can't wait! Then I have some big studying (like refreshing my chem that I took 4 years ago, brushing up on my math, etc....) for a pre nursing entrance exam on 1/12. I may be a bit MIA soon myself. Somehow everything always seems to get done though and the stuff that doesn't - oh well. Good luck keeping your chin up - I'll be thinking of you!

Cherbear - glad your foot is on the mend - a cruise in a week?? Oh, you lucky, lucky girl! Nice job on the weight loss!

Bo - yes, I did like the snow run. It was harder on my quads though and it reminded me of running in sand. I do think that I will get those coil things that go over the sneaks for days like that. I was really surprised at how my feet stayed warm! The snow really slowed my pace but I def. knew I was working harder. I think I am going to prefer doing long runs in the winter and early spring more than those gross humid/hot days of summer. I can always add a layer but the neighbors frowned on me running naked through the neighborhood! 10 pts for a bowl of soup - unless its french onion with an inch of melted cheese and a big old crusty piece of bread on it - that is crazy!

Dan - love my garmin! I honestly can't say enough good about it and you are going to get one for Christmas you lucky guy!!! I have the 205 which does not do the HM. Never was interested in that aspect and/or wearing a chest strap. As for the features I probably have not used them all either but I do love setting it when I run a race. I always know how much farther I have left, my running time, my current pace per mile - it has really helped me become a faster runner. When out and about it is a great feeling to just turn down any old road and be able to find my way back (breadcrumb feature), know my mileage without getting into the car after my run and driving my route to see how far I ran.

So today is a day of rest (core work and stretching) and I have a computer program that I need to spend many hours on gearing up for my big test on 1/12. They are tutorial programs with tests after segments to refresh on science (biology, chemistry), math work (algebra) and english. Its like a pre-sat prep computer course that is geared for students going into nursing. Now that most of my psych work is done I can sit and do that - YAY. Have good runs!!
