***Mile Loggers*** Week of December 3rd

Happy Monday!
This group of mile loggers started the C25K program somewhere in the past few months, and we are staggered anywhere throughout the program. Some are in the last two weeks, and some are brandy ol new. :-)
Please feel free to jump in, be kept accountable and add to the motivational atmosphere. If you don't know how to start, begin by just posting about your run for that day!

Re: ***Mile Loggers*** Week of December 3rd
Good Evening,

Congrats on the weight loss NuGirl and Macd, that's awesome.

eyedoc...dh, your right it stands for dear husband, dd (dear daughter, etc.), and he is dear most of the tme. How are the hamstrings feeling? I do envy your running outside while I am taking the easy way, the treadmill.

DipMom...thanks for the encouraging words, when I told my dh I wanted him to be so excited for me and be so proud of my accomplishment, but I guess I don't need him to be proud of me right now, I am doing this for me! Your run on Saturday will be so much fun with your daughter. You are teaching her so many things by doing this with her, you should pat yourself on the back.

Macd, thanks for the support of frustrating husbands! Its nice to have someone understand.

Have a great night. I am going to try another run tomorrow morning, if I complete the 25 minutes it will D1 of W7.

Later. Barb

Re: ***Mile Loggers*** Week of December 3rd
Barb, I think my DH is proud of me, but he's one of those guys who has a hard time showing it--it's always been an issue between us and also between him and our daughters growing up. I'm used to it and pretty thick-skinned anyway, so it mostly doesn't bother me anymore. The girls, though... I just hope in the long run it's made them more resilient. Maybe your DH is similar? I don't know what additional arguments I would suggest to convince him it's good for you. I think you've already mentioned the main ones that come to mind. Maybe sexier legs? Good luck--don't let him discourage you!

NuGurl, congrats on the weigh in! How is your back doing?

Katie, how are you doing?

I slept through what was to have been my 2-mile walk with the dogs this morning... Couldn't fall asleep until DH turned off the tv from Monday Night Football last night (drat, the Pats pulled out another ), and felt beat when the alarm went off at 4:45. I have a class tonight and probably won't get home in time to do anything... jb, I'm already ~6.5 miles behind schedule to make 100 miles this month! I knew I should have picked a less ambitious distance!

Re: ***Mile Loggers*** Week of December 3rd
Hi everyone. I went to see a surgeon last night, Make a long story short, in 2004 I found a lump on my back they took an MRI and said they thought it was a fatty tumor and I could leave it. But now it got bigger and it is pressing on something in my back and I get pain while im sleeping. The surgeon said to take it out, so I am schedule for surgery on Dec 14th next Friday. I'm a little nervous hoping that it is just a fatty tumor and nothing else. I asked the doctor his opinion and he said he thought it was a fatty tumor. So I hope he is right. I am not sure how long after that I can run again probally a few weeks im guessing. I will find out next week.
Talk to you later.
Maria

Maria, so sorry to hear that! Most fatty tumors are benign, so hopefully that's what yours is. Not good to have pain interfering with your sleep, though, so best to have it taken care of. Hopefully you will be back on your feet quickly--I'll be praying for you!

Re: ***Mile Loggers*** Week of December 3rd
Good Afternoon,

Maria, I'm sure the removal of the fatty tumor will put your mind at peace, plus you will start sleeping better. Just keep positive thoughts going through your head that it's a fatty growth and nothing else. We will all be praying for you.

macd, the scenerio you described sounded so familiar, my husband too had to watch the game and keep me informed of what was going on as I was trying to fall asleep so you sory was funny to me. At least you slept in a little bit this morning, the dogs will have to wait.

I completed D1 of W7 which was another 25 minute run. I had no problems while I was running or right after, but about 90 minutes after the run I had "my problem" return with a trip to the BR. So maybe it's getting better??? Not during or immediatly after the run, but 90 minutes later. I will just watch it for now. The good news is the run was relatively easy compared to runs so far. I'm still running on a treadmill and will continue to so until spring and I think the biggest issue is to keep my mind occupied.

Katie, How are you doing?

Until later, Barb

Re: ***Mile Loggers*** Week of December 3rd
Barb - I think many people that say running is bad are the same ones that tried it ( or know someone that tried it) and got hurt by doing too much too fast. And, if you think about it, the doctors only see the injuries, so many of them become negative. You are using a well thought out and tested program and are listening to your body. And I second what DipMom and macd wrote. Good job on the 25 minute run!

DipMom - I'll be anxious to hear about your 5k experience. And don't worry about the challenge - you have enough going on now. Or - even better - your challenge can be to complete the 5K!

macd - I'm in awe that you were able to lose 3.2# last week. That is fantastic. Keep in mind that the 100 miles is a combination of walking and running - I still walk more than I run. Don't feel like you have to match my goal - I'll let you change it if you want since we are early in the month. The idea is to have a challenge, but not one that will add to the December stresses.

Doc - did you actually say you can't wait for the 30 minute run? Isn't it awesome the way your mind finally says you CAN do this?

Maria - Your weight loss is awesome. Way to go! Sorry to hear about the back problem. At least they scheduled your surgery quickly so you won't have months to stress over it. Sending prayers your way for a good report and quick recovery.

So far I've stayed on track with my 30 minute run yesterday and my 60 minute walk today. It is a struggle to keep my heart rate down on the runs, but I was happy to see a 10 bpm drop in average heart rate on my 60 minute walk. So, 85.4 miles to go before year end!

I am so thankful that you all have kept me going on this program. Running has become my therapy. Don't know if I mentioned this before, but we put my dad in a nursing home in July as he can no longer take care of himself due to lack of physical activity since he retired (29 years ago!), and dementia. Most days he just sits and stares off into space, but today was one of the days where he wants to come home and is convinced he is being held against his will. So, I stay active because I never want to get to the point that I can't even stand up much less walk!

Katie - where are you? We miss you!

Re: ***Mile Loggers*** Week of December 3rd
Katie, good to hear from you! What diet are you doing? I either missed it or forgot (most likely the latter!). Good luck with that and the cardio. Have they scheduled your surgery yet?

barb, you're doing great with your running! Hopefully your "problem" is starting to become accustomed to your activity and more predictable. And I LIKE football--but I guess not at the expense of my sleep. I dragged all day yesterday.

jb, I was pretty shocked with last week's loss myself, but I figure some of it is just normal fluctuation, I'll probably be up next week. I refuse to obsess about it. I'm eating better and exercising more; eventually it will pay off, right? Trust me, I still have a loooong way to go in the weight dept.

We got our first "sticking" snow last night, ~3", so I didn't even think about heading outside, but was able to get 30 min. of running (no stops, no walks!) in on the TM, which was the first time I've done that on a workday. My previous "continuous runs" have come on weekends, when I'm up for an hour or two before I hit the TM. So maybe I'm finally building up stamina or getting over a mental hurdle or something--anyway, it felt great! With the warm-up and cool-down, I was at exactly 3 miles--which is a little under where I'd need to be on a daily basis if I'm to make 100 miles this month, but I want to stick with that goal for now and up the mileage on my walking days... after all, I used to walk 120+ miles/month; it doesn't make sense to me that I should only be doing slightly over half of that since I added some running. Anyway--I'm with those of you who are planning on "wintering" on the TM. I figure I can build a base on it, and be ready for the outdoors whenever spring arrives.

Everyone have a good Wednesday!

Re: ***Mile Loggers*** Week of December 3rd
Hey gang, I just had to post - I broke all the rules this morning and hope I don't pay for this later, but I ran for 50 minutes non-stop! Now, before you get too excited, let me say that I had the treadmill set real slow to keep my heart rate under 130, but I felt like I could have kept going! My legs groaned a bit when I switched from running to walking for the last 5 minutes, but then I stretched well and seem to be OK.

We woke up to about 5 inches of snow this morning, and it is still coming down. I was in such a deep sleep that I couldn't figure out what the noise was - then finally realized Jamie was out with the snowblower clearing our driveway.

Katie - sorry to hear you still have sinus pain. Can you use a nasal spray to help alleviate it until your surgery?

macd - good job on the early morning run. I agree, if I used to walk 4 miles a day, I should be able to run/walk 100 miles in a month. Don't be surprised if the scale stops for awhile - I hate to say it, but I haven't been able to get the scale to move since last December. But, the inches keep coming off as I build more muscle and I'm almost down 4 dress sizes! I'm hoping the increased mileage will get me off of this very frustrating plateau. I need to be very good the rest of this week, as we have a charity Christmas brunch on Sunday - the best brunch I have ever been to, and it has too many temptations!

Re: ***Mile Loggers*** Week of December 3rd
Good Morning,
Just wanted to give a stat on my December challenge of 75 miles, I've completed 12, so 63 to go. Today is not a running day so I did intervals on the ellipitical (2.6 Miles) and then moved the tm for a 1.5 mile walk at a moderate pace. It was a good workout, so far "no problems".

macd..good job on the run this morning. I don't know much about running yet, but I think that running inside on a tm vs outside on snow & ice would be a much safer adventure. At this point, my dh would kill me if I broke something after he tried to convince me to give running up.

jb..running 50 minutes straight, that's amazing. I thought 25 minutes was good, you go girl. Did I read right, you lost for dress sizes and didn't lose any weight? You must be rebuilding your body shape!!

Katie, I hope your feeling better.
