hey...ncsunshine! you are doing great. not a terrible thing to take a break. anyway, i think you will be right back up to speed very soon.

megs...thanks for the compliments. doesnt it hurt to move rubberbands on your wrist? that's like a lap per minute, anyway, huh? lots of work. you are pretty motivated!

simonr...keep it up. maybe just a little slump. idk about your pace, b/c i am too far south for metric system. haha. anyway, i didnt know anything was north of toronto but snow and ice..heehee

more later! the dryer buzzed...

Thank you Miss Wendy and congratulations on a great race. I'm sure you're heard this a thousand times, you're DD is the spitting imagine of you. Sweet. I remember when mine was that small.

Speaking of which, I just learned today how to post pics on this site. I have one of me, my DH and the kids. It was taken on our wedding day earlier in the year. My 18 yr old DD is the one I'm hugging on. My DSS is 16 and my DSD is 12.

Hey peeps...

Did 5.13 tonight in 56:46. Enjoyed this run as it was dry for once although probably not far off freezing so a little chilly!

Misswendy - forgot to say congrats on your race! and a great time too... love the pictures!

Runjr - sleet and freezing rain ? Rather you than me!

Meg - Good trick for the lap counting... still think it's mad though having 12 laps to a mile - it must be so short! Hope you enjoyed that nice long dog walk!

Simon - 53 miles in 3 weeks sounds pretty impressive to me! And 18K is nearly there... i'm still a way from that and my half is in March!

Ncsunshine - Good for you for getting back out there! I think you earnt the break and i'm sure you'll be back up to form quicker than you think. Love the photo too - that beach looks beautiful

Joe - hope you had a good 5

Chuck - good luck with shaking that cold... do you guys use the term 'Man Flu' over there?

Ctmama - welcome back! Don't be a stranger!

Hi to everyone else and happy running!

hi all DD and I got in a 5.1 mile run tonight. The weather was upper 20's and nice. when I run with DD it is a social run and I'm not concerned with pace, just enjoying her company.

Meg: with snow I will run, if it is freezing rain or ice I am really careful and typically will not run. If you run with shorter strides and pick up your feet as you run it is ok.

Simon: The weather has been tough this year. The snow running is more tiring and is much more difficult. You are doing fantastic, keep pushing.

NCsunshine: Way to get back out there. It starts again with the first step and you took it. That is a wonderful photo, thanks for sharing that with us.

ctmama: welcome back and post often.

Cara: that is a great run, do you have a HM picked? You did great in your 10k.

Joe: how did you do?

take care all!!!

Miss Wendy, congratulations!!! Great pics, great time.

Ran 4 miles yesterday on the treadmill then enjoyed watching the Packers become the NFC North Champions. Later, drove to Madison to spend some time with DD. Today was a rest day for me if you call trekking all over Madison resting. Anyway it was great to get the opportunity to spend some time with just DD. Doesn't happen as often as I would like.

Tonight just waiting for the ice storm to move in. Thought that I'd best get my posting done before the electricity goes off???

Good luck to all on your runs tomorrow. Be careful if you live in the Illinois/Wisconsin area. The running gods just don't seem too kind right now.

Hey Joe! Yes - I heard about our funny "cold" front that was "stalled" over the area - you know you'll always be further north than me, as you're near Katy & I'm on the southeast side here in Pearland (for those of you who live in the true north, or really anywhere other than the Houston area, forgive the local talk!).

I also think I must've been having some kind of hormonal fluctuations - hot flashes? Not quite yet, but felt like it! (OK, another apology, to all you men out there - except for dads of lots of girls, like KEVEE, you know what I'm talking about, it sounds like!!).

Honestly, KEVEE, you're a lucky, lucky man - I tell my DH that all the time - little girls are usually wrapped around their daddy's finger (and vice-versa) - I love my dad more than almost anyone in the whole entire world! (AW!)

OK, so I really gotta go now, I'm deteriorating into a hormonal, emotional, tired, sappy mess of a woman! (Now I have to apologize to the women out there for playing into the "stereotype"!).

So, I think I've apologized to just about everyone on this message board by now...gotta go!

Mornin' all! Joe, is it a Tuesday thing? I had a terrible run this morning, and my legs (quads) are killing me. I haven't had a good run in a week--just when I was starting to feel like I was making some progress... Has anyone else gone through this with their quads? They're not achey-sore, it's more like sharp pains (in different places) when I first stand/walk/run. Motrin is doing a good job of keeping me mobile during the day, but any thoughts on fixing this would be welcome. My hubby (a physician but not a runner) says quad strengthening exercises, but my legs say rest!

Okay, I'm done whining. I did get to see the games I wanted to over the weekend. IU (go Hoosiers!) beat KY easily, but their "freshman sensation" was out with an injury, so didn't get to see him play. And I stayed up for the whole Colts game Sunday night, even though they had it wrapped up in the first quarter. Megs, I was extremely disappointed in how the Steelers played. My current thought is that Miami will astonish the world and win their only game of the season by beating the Patriots (who looked invincible on Sunday). Sorry about your Lions!!

NC Sunshine, great pic! You have a beautiful family!

We have had rain for the last 4 days. The trees are coated in ice, but it's been just warm enough (30-34) to keep the roads from freezing, so driving has been fine. It's very pretty, but weird. I too wait for the power to go out (again).

SimonR, Yes, Congratulations on running even if it seems tough! We need crumby days to appreciate the good ones.

NC Sunshine, Hang in there, you're starting back that's important. The running level will come back. Just take it easy.

Cara, nice work on the 5.13 miles.

wbertha, Way to go with the 4 miles, and GO PACKERS! Yeah it was snowing this morning for my run. I drove to work around Milwaukee and it's supposed to get icy. Glad I got my run in early!

Laurel, OH YEAH, can I relate to hormones, and emotional outbursts. But I wouldn't trade my daughters for anything. Even running! I've truly been blessed!

Joe, 4 miles is great also! It's just good to be out running!

I did my 'normal' 45 mn Tuesday hill run today. It was snowing pretty good this morning. Supposed to get up to 6" by this afternoon. Ahhh more upper body workout! Anyway I purposefully 'ran' a lot slower today. I averaged probably 13:00/mi. I've got to practice starting out slower and pacing myself better. The last couple of LSD runs I've been burned out halfway through the runs. It seemed to work today, as at the end I was sad I had to stop! Pretty snow anyway.

Good luck to everyone running today, those that are resting take it easy!

hi all, no run today unless it is on a treadmill. Snow and ice today. Mostly ice where I am and in Keven's area (further north) snow.

Joe: better luck today.

macd: I say rest and stretch.

wbertha: Packers in the playoffs!!!! I bet the ice is worse by you...?

Kevee: nice run, this weather is only getting worse and we are only halfway through December.

take care all.

Hey everyone! Well, I started the day off well. Got into the office and was immediately thrown to the wolves. I didn't even get my first cup of coffee in. But, that's over and the rest of the day is going to be better!

Joe- Yeah 72 laps was a bit much, but still better than the treadmill. Anything's better than the treadmill in my eyes. And for those of you that can run on the treadmill, I envy you 'cause I just can't handle it.

Misswendy- I used loose rubber bands so they didn't hurt. How are your muscles after your HM?

NC Sunshine- Beautiful pic. I actually wanted to cry a little looking at the sunshine and waves. It's been grey and miserable here in Michigan forever. Gotta love winter!

Cara- My dog loved the walk last night. When it's cold like this we usually only go for short walks, but we made it about three miles last night. She was happy. And I loved the reference to "Man Flu". I saw a video clip the other day with the guy from Shaun of the Dead that just made me laugh. Have you seen that?

Laurel- Good luck with the hormones! I feel your pain!

Kevin- Sounds like you had a great run! And I know what you mean about having to force yourself to slow down. I think I start faster to get warm quicker. It's hard to force myself to slow down 'cause sometimes, especially when it's really windy, I just want to sprint the whole thing and get it over with. Ever had that feeling?

macd- I'm sorry about your leg pain. And I agree with you about the Patriots. They really are just amazing this year and it breaks my heart to know that they're probably going to the Super Bowl instead of my Colts.

Well, I should get back to work. And drink more coffee. It's a cross training day for me, which means eye candy at the gym. Woo-hoo!

Good Morning Gang, it is ¡¥finals week¡¦ and the students are stressing me out, I need a run! I may try a short/easy 3 miler later today. My knees seem to be in good shape. Although, they may inform me otherwise. Heavy rains last night, we are expecting 55 and overcast/rain today.

Thanks for all of the help for my knees. No new equipment, training, or techniques (than I am aware of). This groups wisdom is worth much more than what I pay for it, lol.

Chuck- thanks I have intentionally shortened my stride to see if that helps.

Kevee- 18 degrees? Yikes. Rain or shine, hot or cold!

Slave- as much as most of use hate the dreadmill, it would be better than slipping on the ice and breaking a bone!

Cara- nice week of recovery, now get out there and do it.

Megs- moving rubber bands, great way to keep you occupied while running in circles. ?º

Sunshine- great pic! Where was it taken?

Ctmama- check back soon!

Wbertha- heard that there were a lot of power outages in the nation due to this storm. Hope you are not one of them.

Macd/Joe- hang in there, one bad run bring 3 good runs with it.

Laurel- Yes, Midlan/Odessa. We do have a running club here but, it is not very active. Permain Basin Running Club http://pbrunningclub.tripod.com/calendar.html.[/URL" target="_blank"> Lubbock has a very active club West Texas Running Club http://members.tripod.com/~wtrc/.[/URL" target="_blank">

Hope everyone has a good week of running!
