high triglyceride level?

Today I got my results back from a blood test and I have normal Cholesterol level (180) but high triglyceride level (160, the normal level is 150). I've been reading a bit on the net to learn more about the two, and it seems like I'm doing most things right. I
dont eat a lot of meat, mainly a veggie diet with some chicken a few times a week. Lots of veggies and fruit, in the mornings I either have a protein shake, tofu smoothie with fruit, or scrambled eggs. But I do eat a lot of candy (usually 8 or so peices -like you get in the mixed up candy bags from the store) when I'm at work.

I also run (just began running a few weeks ago though) or do yoga and walk 5 times a week, with drinking 7-8 glasses of water a day. And I'm not over weight (5'8, 142lbs).

Can anyone tell me what I should change to lower my triglyceride level?

Re: high triglyceride level?
First off, your level is not very high. But to the extent that it might be caused by something simple like diet, it is possible for a high carb diet that is low in protein can cause this condition. I am not going to go out on a limb and say this is the case with you. You know best what your diet is and how adequate it is (or isn't). There are several other things that can cause high triglyceride levels including hypothyroidism. You should ask your doctor for his recommendations.

Re: high triglyceride level?
I was also going to mention hypothyroidism bcz it can cause high triglyceride levels. If you have any of the symptoms of it, I would talk to your doc about it. (just google it bcz there are way too many to list, fatigue being the most obvious, but there quite a few others people don't think about).

You can also try adding cinnamon to your diet. sounds weird but it has been shown to reduce triglyceride levels. It is also possible that the day you got tested was just a bad day for you. Our cholesterol levels do fluctuate daily, especially if oyu had a bad meal the day before the test (or even a few days before).
