Weight Loss Support Group 8/13/06, Target Date 9/3/06

Hey everyone, another week has gone by and I just got home from Utah and running a half marathon. I pr'd by about a min and 10 seconds but still didn't run as fast as I think I could. I went out too fast and the altitude got me. I did great and had even banked some time but then died on the second half. Sigh. All in all it was a great race. Great for my morale as I passed tons of people on the second half inspite of the fact that I was going slower than I was supposed to be.

Ok, Food wise I did good, but I haven't been on a scale since last Wednesday, let me go look what it says....I have already eaten breakfast and drank lots on the return trip....so probably will show a gain....but let me go see......it says I am up from last week but I will officially weight myself tomorrow am and update this.

Ok, I am starting something new for me. I bought that book body for life for women and going to start that program this week. I will be doing strength training 3 times a week. Going to back off the official marathon training and try to hover right around 30mpw and concentrate on building muscle to help with burning fat.

How did all of you do? How was your weekend? What are you doing that is working, what are you doing that isn't working? What do you need help with? Let us know .....

Tracy - good luck with the Body for Life. I love the strength training section of the original BFL, I imagine for women it'll be close.

Blew off my W7-D3 run on Friday so that I could go to a ballroom dance studio - I spent 2 hours doing the samba, merengue, salsa and rhumba. Seriously, I just ADORE dance classes. My bellydancing starts again this week, Tues & Thurs, I'm very excited.

I did W7-D3 on Saturday morning, 25 minutes and IT WAS EASY! It was slow, but it was easy! I was so proud of myself, I went straight to my running store and gave them $50 and entry forms for 3 5K's in October. I'm a little nervous about it, but I think I'll be ready, and I'll make it without walking, which is my goal.

Sunday weigh-in: 148.2 lbs, down another 1.2 this week. Yay, me!

Finally, if y'all could say a little prayer for me: tomorrow is my gym's Aerob-athon, 2.5 hours of group classes, and I SIGNED UP FOR IT. Temporary insanity, obviously, but now I'm committed!

Re: Weight Loss Support Group 8/13/06, Target Date 9/3/06
well, if i get to count my sunday weigh-in (it's monday now), then i'm 131.4 (i was up to 131.6 this morning, which is nothing really). but with 131.4 it means i'm down 1.6 lbs since last week - which is amazing! i seem to have the formula now, getting in my miles (though i ran fewer this past week, 25.6 miles plus a 4 mile walk on my "rest" day) and cutting back on the wine and cheese (i didn't have any wine until friday and saturday, but i continued to lose weight those days anyway). i think one of the biggest things helping me is that i have fewer meals than when i'm at home in WA because of my schedule. i work nights when i'm in WA, and i have to eat at least one meal during the night plus a small snack. then i usually have 3 meals during the real day - and it totals up to 4 meals. here in sweden, i have 3 meals at most - and a couple of times this week, breakfast was so late it slipped into lunch - and dinner came early enough - that i really only had two meals. i think that extra meal may be my downfall, and i'm going to work on that when i get home at the end of the month.

this 131.4 also marks another milestone - halfway to my goal for the year, which is to hit 120 by my 55th birthday in december. i don't plan to stop losing then (i'm 5'2" and the thought of being under 110 is tempting), but that will put me in a good weight zone, albeit the high end. i also plan to go back to the the circuit class at the fitness club when we get home; i had stopped going in february when my workload increased too much. (if i say it here, i have to do it, right? )

congrats on the marathon, tracy - i'm in awe of anyone who can do that! and good luck with the Body for Life program.

dani - congrats on 1.2 lbs lost! great job!

i just realized something - if i can keep this up at the same rate, i could actually hit my labor day goal of 130... next week! or dang close...
gotta run!

Susan - great job on the weight loss! It seems so odd to get so happy about losses of less than 2 lbs, but those are the losses that will stick, and they do add up!

One note re: your goal weight. I don't know that you'll want to head south of 110 lbs. I'm 5' even, and I'm shooting for about 110. I weighed 105 lbs when I was 20, and that was work to maintain. I'm 38 now, I don't know if I could get that low again! Keep in mind, we're doing all this to be healthy, we don't want to end up Hollywood stick figures!

Re: Weight Loss Support Group 8/13/06, Target Date 9/3/06
I have not been focused on weight loss at all this week. I've been great with the running aspect, but that's not the hard part for me! I ran 7 miles for my long run yesterday and I am psyched about that.

I'm still hovering at 151 or 152. No gain, no loss again. I love the idea of this thread, because I think that having other people to talk with about this stuff would be an excellent motivator, but I'm not living up to my part in it b/c I'm not making any effort to change my diet! So my goal this week is not so much about actual numbers, but about making an effort to get in those fruits and veggies and to not eat mindlessly!

Tracy~ Congrats on your half marathon! And your weight loss, too

Dani ~ Way to go on your runs. The dancing sounds fun!

Good work, Susan!

I'm off again. Thanks everyone and good luck,
Marianne

Re: Weight Loss Support Group 8/13/06, Target Date 9/3/06
So I hit the gym for their 2nd annual Aerobathon - 30 mins of Just Step, a basic step class, 30 mins of Step Challenge, a trickier (much more fun) step class, 30 mins of cardio kickboxing, 30 minutes of Body Definition (much squatting and lunging with dumbbells and body bars) and 30 minutes of Pilates. All one after another. I made it! HRM put me at 795 calories burned without the Pilates, so hey, what a workout! And I got in my W7-D1 run in the morning so that I wouldn't fall behind, so I felt so proud of myself yesterday sitting on the couch watching tv. Of course, when my cell phone rang and I realized I could barely move my legs to get up and answer it, that's when I started thinking, I may have overdone this!

I feel fine today, though, just a little tight which I can live with. Bellydancing starts it's 6 week session tonight, so no rest for the wicked!

I better see a 2 pound drop this week, that's all I'm saying!

Re: Weight Loss Support Group 8/13/06, Target Date 9/3/06
I forgot - Tracy - well, a 5K for me right now would be huge, considering I'm only doing 2.25 miles on my C25K runs right now! I'm just going to keep training, and hope that I do well at this "short" distance. I've looked ahead at the schedule of upcoming local races, and there's a 6k for Thanksgiving, which I am going to do, as well as a few 10 & 8 K's that I will most likely do as they're early next year and I think I'll be ready. Of course, the ultimate goal for me is the Gate River Run in March, one of the premier 15K's in the country and it's in my home city! The longer races don't hold any appeal to me - I've seen the posts regarding the insane training, eating and injury potential of marathons, and I can't see myself doing that. At most, maybe a half, and that seems huge to me. Of course, that all may change when 3 miles is my "short, easy run" instead of my target!

Well, I didn't do well yesterday on the fruits and veggies, although I did eat some fruit salad. Tonight I'm going to saute up a bunch of veggies from our garden to go with supper and I'll hopefully eat some of them too!

I was out all morning for my job, and so didn't eat a thing from breakfast until lunch (I never do that) and you know what? I was fine! I'll have to remember that when I reach for my snacks in the am.

Tracy - I'm in Jacksonville, FL. The Gate River Run is early March each year.

I was pretty good yesterday, watched what I ate and went to Mass AND bellydancing! Pretty good juggling!

Meant to do my C25K this morning in case I have to work late today, but my body didn't want to get out of bed FOR ANYTHING this morning, so, looks like I'm running after work, late or not.

I did my run after work today - yay, me! 25 minutes of running for the 3rd time! I am so psyched!

Pasta w/shrimp for dinner, so not too awful there, I guess. I started taking glucosamine today, figured, hey, can't hurt!

Tracy - Gate River Run this coming year is Saturday, 3/10
