A better explanation of the implications of this study and why it is important can be found here.

OK, nevermind, I found it through some googling.

No, Mountaineer, I'm not. Read through some of the posts there. I stand wholeheartedly behind what I'm saying.

Statistically, left-handed people die earlier. Do we say that being left-handed is a health risk?

I firmly believe that obesity does directly shorten life expectancy.

I think this is a well founded "finding" that has been around since the 1970s.

It is so well founded that I'm not even going to take your claims seriously enough to search for evidence to back myself up.

My only explanation is that I've misunderstood the point your making.

Well, you can believe whatever you want, just as you can worship whatever god or goddess you want. It doesn't make it fact.

And - you'll notice - that I'm not making any claims. I'm simply questioning the assumption that many, many people (including you, obviously) are making: that obesity in and of itself is unhealthy.

For the record, in no way am I condoning poor lifestyle. We should all make good, nutritions food choices, and keep active on a regular basis. But, once we're doing those two things, we should stop worrying about those "20 extra pounds" that no one is even sure are "extra".
