Banana Chips

In my efforts to try and eat healthier i have switched to banana chips bought in the organic section of the grocery store (in bulk so no nutritional info) instead of chips (baked) to go with my lunch. It occered to me today that these might be fried and not just dehydrated. do you know how they are made? Are they good for me? Are they better then baked chips?

My understanding is that they are in fact fried, just like potato chips. You're much better off just eating a fresh banana. If you crave something crunchy, maybe you could try rice cakes or something?

Banana chips are bad...well, worse than potato chips anyway. I just ran regular chips, "light" chips, and banana chips through NATs (http://nat.crgq.com/)

It showed, ounce for ounce, all 3 were comparable in calories (light chips slightly less), banana chips and regular potato chips conatin about the same anmount of fat (9.8 and 9.5 grams respectively), light chips about 3g fat less, but the huge kicker is the saturated fat...light chips = 1g, regular chips = 3g, and banana chips = 8g!!

Stick with the baked chips if that's what you like....better for you than the banana ones.

Although this is an expense..you could invest in your own dehydrator? I don't have one...but I've heard they make really awesome banana and apple chips.

If you have a Trader Joe's near you they have "Banana Crisps" that are only 40 calories and 1g of fat per 2/3 cup serving. They are lighter than a banana chip and taste almost like a sweet potato chip. They're really good!

Most banana chips are fried in coconut oil because it's cheap and readily available. So not only are they loaded with fat, a lot of it is trans fat, which of course is really bad for you..

I used to love them.. I was devastated to find out how bad they are..
