Re: "NEW" Weight Loss Challenge, target date 10/29/06
Hi, I'm Marianne and I half-heartedly participated in the last challenge - didn't gain, but didn't lose either! LOL I'm 5'8 and weigh 152 lbs. I'd like to be at 145. Ideally I'd like 140, but we'll see how things are at 145!

I just took a week off from running due to my runner's knee and a cold, but I started back yesterday and plan to start building my mileage back up slowly, so I'll be running btw. 15 and 18 miles per week.

For me, it's all about choosing to snack on fruit instead of having, for example, way too many bowls of cheerios a day!!! I'm going to check out fitday too and see how that helps me. Right now I don't pay any attention to my calorie intake, but I probably should b/c I know I eat way more than I need to!

Good luck everyone!

Re: "NEW" Weight Loss Challenge, target date 10/29/06
Put me in coach, I'm ready to play.

I've gained quite a bit (9 lb!) of weight somehow in the last three weeks, (1 week sick, not exercising, all of not recording my food) I'm sure some is water weight, but it's crazy! Can see the difference in photos already.

I'm at 168 this morning. My goal is 155.

I haven't done a challenge in the Canteen before, but I've done them in the Clubhouse.
Worked pretty well then because shame is an effective motivator for me. So, I'm totally ready for this.

(Eventual goal is 140 lb. That will be 20% body fat for me; I'm 5'3.5)

Good to see another mommy of youngns working hard to take off the weight. I am Melinda, mother of 3 boys. 6,4, and 1. 5'8 and 160lbs. Hoping to drop 10 by Christmas. May be tough if I continue to run and eat at the pace I am right now. What are some ideas for high protien...low fat foods to fill us up when we are soooo busy with the kids? Let me know some of your favorites. I just get so flipn hungry when I am running, so I feel like I am constantly eating. Good luck to you and all the other hard workers!!

Hi everyone ~ My name is Lajuan. I am 5'3" and I weigh148 lbs as of this morning. I am the mother of three ages 20, 18 and... 7! By the way Juli, my 7 year old is also nicknamed Lulu!
I am training for (among other things) my first 50 miler this February. I know it will be easier to haul fewer pounds around Huntsville State Park for that distance! And if that's not incentive enough... I will turn 40 on October 29th. I would really like to be under 130 by then. 2 pounds a week for 8 weeks would get me down to 132, so I definitely wouldn't be dissappointed with that!

By the way congrats to Tracy and Danilynn for their great success so far, and welcome to David and Juli. We can do this, you guys!

Re: "NEW" Weight Loss Challenge, target date 10/29/06
Hi everyone-
My name is Shelley and I am the mother of two-8 and 6. I have been struggling with my weight for some time...actually, I have been struggling with my motivation. I run about 3x's a week and lift weights about 2-3xs/week. Hoping to increase all of that-
Anyway, would love to join the group-I'd like to lose about 1.5 lbs/week or 12 lbs. total. I am currently 5'1" and weigh around 126. My goal is 114 by the end of October. You're going to have to kick my butt a few times-I start to slack off and really need help with the motivation.
Looking forward to getting started!

Re: "NEW" Weight Loss Challenge, target date 10/29/06
Hi, I'm back - hopefully for longer this time! I'm Kathleen, 25, 5'5" and 135-137. My goal is to lose 5 lbs by Oct 29. So I want to be at 130-132. My weight is literally ALL OVER the place these days, so I never know what I really weigh, and I always gain weight after long runs, and keep it for several days. I assume a lot of it is water, but I'd love to learn how to control it.

I run 3-4 days a week, and aim to bike and swim 2-3 times a week. I do a long run every Sat and long bike every Sunday. I have also started a semi-personal training session once a week and aim to do weights one other day a week. October 29 will be my second half-ironman, so perfect timing on the goal date! I'm also marathon training for Houston Marathon in January and Sunmart 50k in December. Ultimate goal is 125 for weight and Ironman Arizona April 15, 2007. Maybe those two goals can happen around the same time. I know 130 is do-able, but 125 is going to be a huge step that may not happen with all the training.

My biggest challenge will be the food - as the exercise is basically going to happen no matter what because of the races/training. I have to find a balance between eating well and not obsessing too much over it. When I eat very well and don't see results I get super frustrated and quit trying. So, I'm setting a very attainable goal and am going to try to be very smart and realistic about it all.

Good luck to everyone!!

Re: "NEW" Weight Loss Challenge, target date 10/29/06
Oh...if losing weight after a run were my problem...I always retain a lot of water after running and weigh tons more. I rarely weigh before and after, but did on Saturday and was actually exactly the same. I do have Nancy Clark's guide to sports nutrition, or something like that, and I look at it all the time.

I'm not sure how much of the huge fluctuations can be avoided and how much I should just live with. Sometimes I try to go low sodium, but then again its so hot and I sweat so much on my long runs/rides I don't want to be going without it if I need it.

I do have a lot to learn about my nutrition during actual long training and races in preparation for my ironman, so hopefully by trial and error I can learn something!

Re: "NEW" Weight Loss Challenge, target date 10/29/06
hey guys!! I know i dropped out of the last challenge... thats because i gained weight! Lol well now i am back and starting on wed! Today (tuesday) is my birthday! I figured a new year of my life deserves a healthy year.

I am going to be following the 'Skinny Bit*h' diet. Its basically a healthy vegan diet. No white flour, refined wheat, sugar, dairy, meet, ect. Whole wheat and fruit are encouraged (yay!)

My stats are a little embarrassing.... so i'll just say im 5'6.5 and my current weight is- fat.
Haha im not 'fat' but im not quite 'skinny' kind of sucks to be in the middle huh?

Well im sticking with it this time and i promise i wont drop out again!

Re: "NEW" Weight Loss Challenge, target date 10/29/06
I start my crazy week of 12-16 hour days tomorrow. So today I went grocery shopping - made tuna and kidney bean salad, boiled eggs, cut up veggies in little snack sized portions...anything to help me get ready quickly in the morning because I tend to sleep till the last minute, skip putting together lunch, and end up eating out - which is bad for my weight and wallet.

I ran 2 miles yesterday, walked a lot today, and will run 4 tomorrow. After my crazy week I'm going to get a strength training program together. Good luck everyone!

Re: "NEW" Weight Loss Challenge, target date 10/29/06
Hey, everyone! I know that I am a little late, but I wanted to see if I could join the group. I'm currently about 140, and would love to get down to 127/128ish. I'm 5'6'' too. I usually run alot, but have seemed to hit a slump, so I've gained the weight over the past 8 months or so. I can't seem to get very motivated to consistently keep up a good running track or diet. However, I know that if I drop a few pounds, that the running will come much easier.

I'm currently in South Africa on business right now, so exercise has been hit or miss. There is only one treadmill at my gym and I have little control over my scheduling of it (gym has workday hours). On top of that, I'm eating every meal out and have no idea what is going into the food. Needless to say, the past two weeks have been tough on me in that regards. However, I'm trying to make the best eating choices I can, and I plan on getting back to a more consistent diet and routine next week.

As far as today, I have dinner tonight with work colleagues, which means no running/biking in for me. Same schedule for tomorrow, so Thrusday may be my next time to exercise.

Thanks for all your stories and information. I look forward to getting to know everyone together and a little less of us in a few weeks!

Re: "NEW" Weight Loss Challenge, target date 10/29/06
i'm back, if a bit late - i've been sick and jet-lagged which has been bad for keeping up on the computer, but good for weight loss.

i'm 5'2" and now... 127.8 lbs! last week i lost over 3-4 lbs, but that's what no appetite will do for you. i started running in late april at 143 lbs, so 15 lbs so far. my appetite has started coming back, so i'm hoping not to put it right back on once i've recovered from the cold.

let's see; i'm 54, mom to three grown kids (29, 27, and 20), one border collie (my runniing partner), and two siamese cats. i've just returned to eastern washington state after a summer in sweden. now i telecommute to sweden (i have to start working now!) which means that i keep a strange schedule; ultimately i sleep a few hours before and a few hours after my work night, but with the cold and jet lag (i returned from sweden last tuesday) i haven't gotten my rhythm back. i try to run at least 30 miles a week, with a few miles of walking thrown in. i watch what i eat, but i hate counting calories; my biggest problem is the number of "meals" in a day - i eat breakfast and a light "lunch" or snack whlie i work, but then i need food again when i'm up during the real day - "brunch" and dinner. which really adds up. so i'm going to try to lighten the calories on the night "lunch/snack" if possible, and see if i can stay in control. i'd also like to get back to the gym two days a week for circuit training, and maybe even for yoga, but i know there are only so many hours in the day.

my target - 120 lbs for oct 29. that's just under 8 lbs, and should be doable - and maybe i'll surprise myself! my ultimate goal, 115 - maybe i can manage that by my 55th birthday in december...
susan
