I want to join this challenge as well!
My name is Lisa, I am a mother of 3: 15,13 &9. I started running/walking the last week of July (pretty much a modified version of C25K) I am 5'2" and currently weigh 154. Down from 163 when I started. So 9 down, 17 to go! My son started conditioning for football the end of July, so a couple of the Mom's and I started running/walking on the track. I have never been a runner, and have always been intimidated by running. When we started I was seriously not even able to run a quarter of the quarter mile track without stopping. I was walking more than running, one of the other Mom's who is a runner, coached me a little and was positive and enthusiastic. This past weekend I ran (without stopping) 2.5 miles! Not the best time mind you, but I have never been more proud of myself! We have signed up to do my first ever 5k November 5. I am really excited! I have been counting points/calories for a while now, it's the most challenging part for me. I do great during the day while I'm at work, but at home at night I love to have a beer or glass of wine with dinner, and usually just end up eating what I make for my family. I have a definite problem with portion control, once I start, it's hard for me to stop. Like someone else said, I need to be able to incorporate more protein everyday....

Oh, and I will be turning the big 4-0 in October, so I was originally trying to hit my goal by then.

Thanks!
Lisa

Just an update, I did a speed workout yesterday and some core work and exercises I just got in PT, and today did a hour spin class...after getting 6 cavities filled. I didn't think I'd make it to the gym today, so going was a nice freebie...of course I followed it us by Chipotle, but ya, things like that just happen! My calorie deficit was still around 400 and I'm only aiming for an average of 250 a day, so thats good. Keep up the good work everyone!

So, I did go ahead and do my W5D2 workout yesterday. From here on out, no walking breaks in the schedule! Wow!

I did my weigh in last night and lost 2.5 lbs. Down from 155.5 to 153. I must have been losing some actual weight under some water weight, because the scale was reading about 155 all week before hand. Oh, well, I'll take it!

I think I'm going to stick with 10 lbs from this beginning weight, which will put me at 143 at the end of the challenge.

I ran trails Wednesday morning, YEAH! Trails are my favorite thing in the running world. Followed that up by Los Cucos near the park. Fish taco and shrimp taco and.... 2 margaritas!! What was I thinking? Dinner was a samll piece of salmon and rotini in garlicky olive oil. Oh yes, and breakfast was Cinnamon Life cereal with my daughter, who sometimes just thinks it's the coolest thing for us to eat the same thing for breakfast. Due to respiratory gunk, and sheer laziness/exhaustion, I didn't get out of bed at 4:00 am for ATP workout. BUT, I will run 4.5 miles of trails again tonight!! I am going to try to work in some other workouts this week, yoga today, and maybe weight training on Sunday. I'm doing a core strengthening class with my trail buddies next Wednesday morning before trails. Good luck everyone!!

Hi All,

I'm a 27 year old female, 5 foot 1, and I currently weigh 160. I have a history of yo-yo dieting and negative self-talk and I'm trying a different approach to getting in shape.

So my goal over the next 8 weeks is to be active a minimum of 3 days per week and to lose about 4 pounds. I have been a vegan for 2 years.

My pattern has been to overexercise and overdiet and lose lots of weight and then to gain it all back plus some because the changes I made are not sustainable. (I weighed 125 back in college when my ROTC professor told me I had to go on a diet - that's when it all started)

So this is my first foray back into "losing weight" although I'm thinking of it in terms of overall health and less in terms of specific demands on the scale. But I've also started jogging again in the mornings (jog/walking) and am looking forward to taking a gentler - more gradual approach to being healthy.

Nice to meet you all.

BL

Hey all. I would love to join your little group. I am 26 yo, 168.8 lbs, 5'4". I am down from 200 lbs at the end of April by following weight watchers and running more. I have been running for over 3 years and I am currently training for my 1st half marathon in mid Oct (coincidently only a few days after my 27th bday). I hope to be down to 155 by the end of Oct with my ultimate goal being 130-140 range (I haven't weighed that little since junior high school). Oh and since you all describe your family...I am a mom to one kitty cat named Ginger.

Hi, BL - Welcome! 4 lbs over 8 wks is .5 lbs a wk lost, which is very doable and recommended - slow, steady weight loss is more likely to be maintained. As you know, drop 10 lbs in 2 weeks through the latest fad diet and 15 lbs pop back when you go off it! Great goal of 3 workouts a week - I have a posterboard put up, and I get stars for my workouts. Yes, very kindergarden, but very satisfying to see all the stars line up!

I did my W9 run last night, then showered and went to the dance studio - spent 1 hr 20 mins learning the tango, 20 mins refining my rhumba, 20 mins on the foxtrot, and just one song for East Coast swing. Tonight is bellydancing again. I'm just a hopeless dancing fool!

Ate well yesterday, doing well so far today....

How's everyone else's day going?

Ultramom - if you're running at Memorial tonight I'll be one of the girls getting my butt kicked at 6 by the rugby fields in a small group personal training session. then we're running trails afterwards!

I'm having a hard time this week - mostly in getting my exercise in. My schedule greatly fluctuates and right now I'm working basically 9am to midnight with a 1/2 lunch and hour dinner break. I brought my shoes to run during my dinner break yesterday but a friend of mine called and wanted to eat dinner with me - so I did that. Then I tried to get up this morning to run but I am sooo tired - I just felt heavy tryting to wake up and so out of it - I let myself sleep more.

I need a lot of sleep. I feel ok saying that I should listen to my body and use that extra hour to sleep...it's just that this is a reoccuring situation. I have a really hard time fitting running into my lifestyle sometimes. I'm feeling very down about it right now.

Food is ok. I've been using fit day and realizing how I don't get enough protein in my body. My fat % are too high - even when I feel like I'm eating healthy...so I am learning.

Hope everyone else is doing well!

Learned a lesson today during my run. You will not feel well running in the morning after you have a few drinks the night before. Seemed like it took me longer to recover today and I also had pain in my right side for the first time.

Lesson Learned. Onward and Downward.

I work in theatre - as a lighting designer. The week or so before opening when we put everything together there is 8 to 10 hours of rehearsal a day plus 2-3 hours in the morning and 1/2 of the 2 hour dinner break are spent doing notes getting the lights ready for the rehearsals. It's not like this all the time for me - maybe 1 1/2 to 2 weeks out of every month - and that's a high estimate. So it's hard when I shift from a more regular life schedule to these weeks. It's a constant negotiation, and sometimes I'm more succesful than others.

It is a wonder I have a life - but I do. Most of my friends are in theatre so they have an understanding and don't get upset when they don't hear much from me for 2 weeks. I tend to date people in theatre for the same reasons. It's hard, but I do love my work.

I have been learning to make myself a priority and have been so much better about balancing my life than I used to - though I know it's not what a lot of people would choose.

So there's my story I don't think I'd normally be this tired - but this has been a longer stretch of long days than normal for me. That's really what's affecting me - I'm just tired.

Did my W5D3 today. Went pretty well. I went about 2 miles in the 25 minutes. I made the mistake of looking down at my watch after the first mile, and that made me feel like I was going too slow, and found my pace creeping up to where I was huffing and puffing. Times like these make me wish I had shelled out more than $6.98 for a watch with a time that I could set and forget and just know that it will beep when I should stop running.

Also, yay Friday!
