Count me in, too. I am 29, 143 lb. I have gained about 8lbs since my May 06 marathon and am ready to shake it. My formal training for the May 07 marathon begins in a few weeks so I'm figuring that should help me in this challenge. Happy New Year!

Week 1- 141lb. This past week I focused on not eating in front of the tv. It's made me more aware of what I am consuming and I now enjoy and actually taste the food. Overall, it has been a worthwhile change. Now on to week 2....hope everyone is well!

I just got "You: on a diet" also, and so far I'm impressed and feel that it's a reasonable and healthy plan.

My beginning weight is 135lbs.

Woah, a lot of people have joined since I last checked! I counted 41 members, but I might have counted bowie and taco/turkey twice!

Your suggestion sounds good to me BigRed. I'd prefer a weekly thread, but only b/c I'm lazy and don't want to dig for new posts! I'd also suggest for anyone who hasn't to post what your plan of attack is to get fit for the challenge.

chasing3, somewhere on this site I read that for every pound you lose you drop 1-2 seconds off your time! Does anyone remember reading that?

Hey Emmitt, I'm doing SB too (almost 2 yrs.)! I'm confused though b/c you said you didn't want to cut out carbs? Do you mean you don't want to do Phase 1? Because I'm eating 2-3 grains a day (Phase 2) and still losing.

How'd everyone manage the holiday/new year treats & drinks?

I'd give myself a 5 over the Christmas weekend. I didn't drink (not really my thing), but I did indulge in some sugary goodness! I'll be home w/ the bf for New Years, so no temptations to worry about.

Happy New Year and good luck to everyone!

I signed up for a half marathon in May. I ran somewhat competitively(age group) until 2005. Had DS #3. Only been back into running consistantly for the last three months. Would love to at least get down to 130! If I see the 120's again that would be heaven!! I don't have a scale but the last time I weighed myself was 140 and I know I have gained a few pounds in the last few weeks. I plan on upping my mileage and really watching what I eat. I would like to work out 5-6 days/week instead of just 4.
This is a great idea!

5'10.5/33/199.5...Want to lose the whole 20 + another 10. I want to get into the "healthy range" on the BMI scale.

Since I put on a decent amount of weight since late summer due to a foot injury; I am going to take it slow. I have a tendency to start out way too fast and overdo it (hence the injury). I hope to lose a pound and a half a week on average.

Good Luck Everyone!

I'm ready to start So, how do we go about this? Obviously we each have to go away and make our own effort but how often do we check in etc? Will we be sharing thoughts/ideas with eachother along the way?
Sorry...i'm new at this!

I'm in. I lost a total of 57 pounds lasy year, and started the C25K in May. Finished it and floundered around with the 1-mile runner, but really liked the structure of c25K. Good thing I like it, because I need to start over since I haven't done anything (no running, no nothing) since September. I put on 10 pounds since mid-November. I'm so ashamed, but I know I can do this because I've done it before. I need the structure of the C25K and the accountability of this thread. I'd like to drop another 35, so this will be perfect to start with. Good luck everyone.

37/M/197.5/0 (start week)

Greetings! Today is the first day of the New Year and the first day of my quest to lose 20 pounds in 20 weeks (by 19 May 2007). I plan to record my weight here every week. I hope that by posting here and sharing this experience with others it will help me achieve this goal.

A little more about me: My body fat (BF) this morning was 27.5%, and that's pretty bad (see this chart) http://www.heartratemonitorsusa.com/Images/Accumeasure-images/fitness-3000-fat-chart.gif[/URL" target="_blank">

My ideal body fat (BF) is 20% and I hope to also reach this as a result of my weight loss. I used the tape measure technique (measure abdomen (around naval) and neck (just below Adams apple). Then used this spreadsheet:
www.siena.edu/armyrotc/curriculum/tools/BodyFatV3.0.xls[/URL" target="_blank">

For anyone interested I took a few measurements. Abs (relaxed, standing) 41", Neck 16", Biceps 16", Forearm 13". I hope to also improve on these figures as I follow my diet/fitness plan.

My plan- First a accept that I will change this plan over time, but it is also my belief that this is the best plan for me today and will try to stick with it, and only change it after careful consideration. I am intentionally making a plan that is a lot easier than most so it is very achievable and I can modify it to be more difficult over time if necessary for better results.

FITNESS- Run (RN) 4x a week (every run at least ~2 Miles, and one run at or over ~3 Miles). Strength Training (ST) 2x a week (composed of a circuit of ~10 exercises with moderate weight). Core Training 1x a week (currently using a circuit of ~10 exercises with a stability ball). Other activity (such as an exercise video or participate in a sport) 1x a week.

DIET- Eat every 3 hours. Healthy meals in small portions. I have never endorsed a particular diet but simply relied on reading (this site is an excellent primary source). I must admit I am heavily influenced by
http://3hourdiet.com/home/index.php?page=HIW3[/URL" target="_blank"> , after buying the book $15 and looking over the website, I think it is the closest ?program? out there to what I believe to be the most effective.

I accept that there will be ups and downs, but losing 1 pound a week is a healthy realistic goal. Mission statement: On or before 19 May 2007, I will weigh 177.5 lbs or less.

Excellent idea!

I lost 53 pounds in 52 weeks not long ago. I put some back on during the holidays and need to lose quite a bit more. I am built like a linebacker and want to weigh more like a running back
