One-handed vs. Two-handed Backhand

After playing tennis yesterday for the first time in four years, I noticed several things including my weak backhand. I alway used a one-handed backhand, but was struggling with it a bit yesterday. Next time I go out to play I am going to try the two-handed backhand and see if that works better for me.

Which do you prefer? One-handed or two-handed backhand? Any advice?

Re: One-handed vs. Two-handed Backhand
I prefer a two handed backhand because it's always given me more control. I also feel that I get way more power using both hands. I don't have a decent backhand slice because of it though. My advice is to try to set up early because I think it takes a little more time to get a proper backswing using two hands. Let me know how it works out for you!

Re: One-handed vs. Two-handed Backhand
For me, being right handed, a one-handed backhand is easier. My left hand is useless and although i've heard you get more control from two hands, I have trouble setting up. I also haven't seen too many slices done with two hands. Also it's really easy to get those really low balls with one hand without poping it up into the air. My advice is if you had a one-handed back hand before to try and practice by hitting with a ball machine, if you don't have one get someone to feed balls to you and hit consistently. I started off with a slice, but as I practiced I began to gain a pretty decent topspin backhand. The players I hit around ith forced me to hit backhands so eventhough I lost those points I began to find my sweetspot and my timing to hit a good-paced ball. Hope it helps. I'm not very good with advice.

Re: One-handed vs. Two-handed Backhand
Play around with the 2-handed backhand, but my advice is to be open to using both depending on the situation. Personally, I use a one-hander to hit a higher ball with a slice, or to slice a backhand to throw off an aggressive player, or even a one handed topspin backhand to hit a finesse shot. But like other posters have said, the two-hander is a great source of power. Plus, I've found it is easier to disguise the direction of your shot with the 2-hander.
