Marathon nutrition

I am running my first marathon this weekend and would like to get some ideas on what people like to eat during the last 48-72 hours leading up to the race.

You should eat what you normally eat leading up to long training runs (assuming it's nutritious, high-carb food that you like). Right before a marathon is no time to try something new.

Also, good luck!

I normally carb load early in the week and eat my normal diet for the 48 hours prior to the race.

Good luck!

The day prior to the marathon i am really careful about hydration. I drink a lot of water BUT also a lot of gatorade the day before. I think in Hal Higdon's book he recommends eating something right before bed like a protein bar that has carbs + protein in it and then eating when you first wake up.

I like to have a plain bagel (as in nothing on it) to nibble before the start of the race.

2 days before and the morning of, I'll Gatorade away. I''ll eat bananas, bagels, applesauce, raisins, granola, "Fig Newtons", peanut butter for protein and lots of delicious water.

All good advice here...me I do not change much, just am sure to drink water AND juice or gatorade, not water only, its the only time besides during a run that I drink anything with calories in it....
also I do not 'carbo load' or eat a HUGE pasta dinner, I do eat pasta but 'normal' servings...and snack as always.
