Low Sugar Snacks

So now that I'm really trying to pay attention to sugar, I'm realizing how much sugar everything has!

Anyone have some low sugar granola bars or yogurts or other snacks they recommend?

I was eatting the Fiber One, but just read about the hydrogenated oil, so there go those..plus they are like 12 g of sugar I think.

I don't know about granola bars or yogurts, but fruit works for me. Something else I really like is Zen Bakery Fiber Cakes, they're like bran muffins...no refined sugars but they are sweetened with white grape (from TJ's or Whole Foods). If I really want sweet I'll have a couple of dates, but I have to be careful, they can be a trigger food for me. I'm safer with fruit or no oil nuked popcorn for a snack.

I eat a lot of cheese for snacks...string cheese or a laughing cow light cheese on a rice cake are my common snacks. I also like natural fruit roll ups...they dont have added sugar but because they contain fruit they do have sugar.

Are you looking for convenience snacks? If not, just about anything can make a great snack. Half a baked sweet potato, whole grain crackers with peanut butter or light cheese, cottage cheese with pineapple or fruit of choice, sliced apples, celery with PB or light cream cheese, rice cake w/all fruit spread, small bowl of rice and beans, plain yogurt with berries or bananas, cup of soup, trail mix (make your own with nuts, whole grain cereal like cheerios/wheat chex, dried fruit, hard boiled egg, baked corn chips with salsa, etc....

I know some cereals have high content of sugar but some the sugar is natural and regardless they offer nutrients. Yogurt if you get vanilla or plain you can add vanilla.I tried greek yogurt which I didn't lik ebut people rave. I try to think of snacks as mini meals so like oatmeal or pb on toast. I really like laughing cow cheese on bread, pita and hummus.

Graingirl has got it down! Rock the natural snacks over packaged & processed bars, shakes, etc. every time. Personally, if I'm going to be working out w/in a hour I reach for a banana (perfect blend of energy and nutrients), but if I'm done working out for the day I like to have something with a little more substinence, and typically reach for f/f cottage cheese (protein and carb combo) or mircowave an egg quick (nice blend of protein, good fats, and nutrients) and maybe add a little parm cheese.
Keeping down sugar intake is a good idea, however, maybe instead of reducing it, it would be more benificial to just replace simple, refined sugars (processed foods) with natural sugars (whole fruits). That way you can still satisfy cravings (which helps to prevent binging), and at the same time enjoy satisfying, nutrient-rich snacks

God Bless,
