everclear

Alright, a rather random question...
but does anyone know why Everclear has so many more calories than other hard liquor? I got it because I figured it wouldn't have a ton of calories since its basically pure (no added sugars, flavor, etc) but after drinking some I googled it to find it had 190 calories per ounce ! Regular whisky/vodka etc only had aroung 100 cals per ounce, so what gives???

Happy drinking! Alcohol has seven empty calories per gram.

I know. Seeing as how I'm trying to get over restictive tendencies (and a past of annorexia) I wanted to just let myself go and have fun for once. Trust me, the empty calories haunts me--so much so that I'm in my late 20s and can count the number of times I've had alcohol on one hand. I've never gotten sick from drinking and don't intend to, I just want to be able to have fun (in a safe way of course) if I want to without worrying 24/7 about eating the most nutritional things ALL the time<HR>

I have no idea why it would have more calories. However, remember that you are drinking rarely. When you allow yourself to let go, why not decide that you will force yourself to NOT google the calories and will have one! night of freedom?

If you were a college drinker and everyday was St. Patty's day that would be a different story. But, yes, you do deserve to have that fun you likely missed during years of being very rigid (despite what that alcohol police will say and even more so you deserve to have the few drinks that you ENJOY most.

The way calories are measured in a lab is by burning the object in question and seeing how much it heats a specific amount of water. Pour a little of your everclear in a shot glass and light it. Now you know why it has so many calories. Pure alcohol burns great! On the plus side, it is very pure, so you know exactly what you are drinking. Mix a little with some tasty fruit juice for a refreshing adult beverage, but I wouldn't recomend shots (I have seen more than one person hospitilized)! Alcohol in moderation has been proven to have positive health benefits, so enjoy yourself a little.

The alcohol is the source of calories. more alcohol per unit in everclear than vodka, so more calories.

kool-aid is a good mix for it; but don't take a shot. I took a half-shot once and I will never ever do it again.

Everclear is 190 proof, or 95% alcohol. Just as light beer has less calories (more water), it makes sense that Everclear would have higher calorie content. Whiskey at 90 proof would only be 45% alcohol by volume.

Stick with a half-shot of Everclear in a mixed drink instead of a full shot, and you will have the same amount of calories, and the same amount of alcohol in your drink!
