Re: Oatmeal
I do steel cut oats, cooked overnight in water. Then in the morning, I add either a cup of mixed berries, or half a cup of pumpkin, a half teaspoon of pumpking pie spice and a tsp of sugar.

Re: Oatmeal
I love oatmeal, too. I cook it with just water and put in raisins and cinnamon, apples and apple pie spice, dried cranberries, any kind of nut, flax oil, etc. I never sweeten it. Lately I made up a snack mix of pistachios, walnuts, almonds, dried cranberries, and raisins. A little of that in my oatmeal was divine.

Re: Oatmeal
I like oatmeal well enough but prefer a cereal we get here called Red River Cereal. It is a cooked porridge like oatmeal but has flaxseed and the texture is more like steel cut oats.

On a recent visit to the US, I found an oatmeal cereal called Medley by Bear Naked. It is mostly rolled oats as in traditional oatmeal porridge but also has ground flaxseed and whole sunflower seeds. Great stuff but not available in Canada.

I usually have a bowl of hot cereal in the AM before I run. Does a good job of satisfying hunger without upsetting my stomach as anything with dairy or fat does. I prepare it with water only and cook it with a handful of raisins.

Re: Oatmeal
I just discovered Wheatabix. It's a boxed cereal that comes in little biscuits. I mash up two with some vanilla soy milk and dried fruit and nuke for 1.5 minutes. It is AWESOME; perfect for breakfast before work.

On the weekends it's real oatmeal with milk, brown sugar, a pat of butter, milled flax seed and dried fruit of the week. If I were cooking for more than one I'd make steel cut oats, they are delish but hardly worth the time for just one person.

Re: Oatmeal
I love oatmeal, I eat it at least 5 days a week for breakfast. I usually cook mine with water and raisins (easiest and quickest for breakfast on the go). Sometimes if I get bored with that, I'll cook it with soy milk and add agave. Some morning if I have extra time, I come up with spice concoctions to add, which usually turns out well...although I've come up with a couple of gross combinations (I have a weird addiction to buying spices).

Re: Oatmeal
I cook mine with water and add some soymilk and bananas with cinnamon and cloves at the end. I will also add some frozen blueberries sometimes too. Other times, I'll add some banana and pumpkin with some pumpkin pie spice too--and maybe some maple syrup. A swirl of peanut butter or nut butter of choice and preserves is good too.

Re: Oatmeal
Oatmeal, soaked in 1:2 milk:water overnight, with:

  • raisins
  • chopped candied ginger

Then microwaved. Serve with brown sugar and milk. Or with none of the additions, but with tahini added with the sugar.

Re: Oatmeal
I cook it with a small amount of milk and add half a banana, a few raisins and a tiny bit of pure maple syrup. Frozen blueberries are yummy in there too. Sooo good. Oh and don't forget to drink O.J. with it - I've read it boosts the heart-healthy properties of the oats!

Re: Oatmeal
I use half oatmeal and half oatbran cooked in the microwave with water and frozen blueberries. After it is cooked I add a dash of cinnamon and a bit of splenda. I eat this pretty much every morning....my day just doesn't feel right if for some reason I have to eat something different for breakfast. I even get up early so I'll have time for it.

Re: Oatmeal
Lately it's been: raisins, peanuts, cinnamon and a little maple syrup. I'm out of protein powder, but typically I add that too.

I also like peanut butter, apple butter, chopped apples, peaches or any kind of nut or seed. Lots of combinations are tasty!
