My CSA charges 545 for a family share and 345 for a half share. But that's over 22 weeks, which averages to about 25 dollars a week in produce for the family share and only 17! dollars for the half share which is what we'll probably get this year. I definitely spend more than that at the grocery store and get stuff that's lower quality (and maybe even a smaller amount than I can expect to get with the CSA). So even if 545 is more than I'd spend for a month of groceries, more than half of my grocery bill is produce and this is going to cover me for over five months. If you buy very little produce from the supermarket to start off with, it's of course not as good of a deal. So I really think you have to weigh it with how much produce you really eat. CSAs seem to make more sense for people who eat a lot of produce.

I've always had more cucumbers than I can eat from my buckets. they say for containers on the seed package.

The guy next door DOES tomatoes& greens. I do garlic, chives, onions, eggplants.peppers & cukes all in containers.
WE share as crops are ready. Funny story. He doesn't talk to us. Just lowers his goods over the privacy fence & I respond by leaving a pot full on his porch. I tried ringing his bell, he won't answer (we share a duplex). Been doing it for 4 years now. Sometimes he will yell a thanks over the fence.

OMG, cucumbers can grow out of control. Do not plant them near anything else! They will attach to anything. We had so many cukes the one year we did them that we pickled so much and then gave away the rest. They are really fun to grow though, if you have a trellis.
