Weight gain during taper

Hi everyone,
I'm getting ready to run my second marathon on Sunday and I've gained a few pounds (like 3+) during the taper. It's so hard to go from high mileage to low mileage for me... I have a hard time with it mentally and then it's so abrupt, my eating habits didn't change enough. I went from over 50 miles a week to less than 30 last week and next to nothing this week...

Anybody else been through this? I'm thinking I won't really notice it during the race but I'm feeling terrible about myself. I know I'm pms too so some it's probably that to a great extent too.

Basically just looking to see if this has happened to other people and see how it affected them during the race...

Have a wonderful day!
Karen

You must have been eating some awesome amounts of food during the last ten days. More even than when you were running your full mileage. In order to gain that much that fast you would have not only not changed your eating habits but actually increased the amount you had been eating.

Relax! Enjoy your time off! You haven't gained three pounds. You'll have a great race.

My weight fluctuates daily a few pounds or so depending on what I have eaten or drank. I have decided the best way for me to know for sure about weight gain is to only weigh myself once a week. I have found myself weighing 2 to 3 pounds more during the week, only to be back at normal by my Saturday weigh in. I wouldn?t worry at all, and enjoy your race. Besides, if you did gain a few pounds, they may come in handy for more energy and endurance.

Its normal during a taper. Its unlikely to be fat though.

it's likely just water weight since you're utilizing less carbohydrate for fuel during your taper. you'll use them up during the race- dont worry...and good luck!
